The customer service

Very long confusing questions with both a yes and no answer. Difficult to follow the train of thought and easy to get wrong.

Back story: I bought insurance thru a well known comparison website. I ended up with insurance to the wrong countries. I'm still scratching my head as to how. It was not Avantigo's mistake; they got their intel straight from the comparison website.
When I called, yes, you have to sit thru a tad long recording but when you want to speak to a human they're very quick to answer. The process of getting it corrected was easy & quick and if you do it in time they refund the difference.

Easy to fill in and did not repeat questions

Absolutely useless insurance company! Avoid at all costs! It was impossible to make contact with the N American emergency helpline when I had an accident on holiday in Canada in May 2026, fracturing my shoulder blade. Every phone call failed to connect (I even contacted the UK emergency line and they could not get through either). Now in September, three months on from submitting my claim for payment of hospital expenses, I am still waiting for settlement of the hospital bill or any explanation of the delay. The hospital is now referring my case to a collection agency.
I have had no meaningful communication whatsoever with AvantiGo or Ergo apart from a couple of standard email acknowledgements and apologies from telephone agents. I submitted a complaint. Today I have been offered £50 compensation and was told my case is with the N American office; the agent who phoned me was unable to say if or when the fees will be paid. What use is that when I am being referred to a Canadian collection agency?

Cheap travel insurance I didn’t use it but was easy to set up.
