Avis charging costumers for insurance cover they did not want

I hired a car form Avis Dubrovnik on July 17th. At the desk I was asked if I wanted to purchase extra car insurance cover. I said NO, as I had purchased an annual excess car insurance policy before my trip. I told the Avis representative this. I didn't want it.
I was asked to electronically sign the hire agreement and that I understood if there was an accident or damage to the vehicle to get the police to sign the rentals agreement too. I electronically signed that I understood. The representative folded the agreement and placed it in a red folder. He told me to leave it in the glove box. He put a €500 security deposit on my credit card that would be returned when the car was brought back. When I returned the car 10 days later and the Avis representative checked the car for fuel and damage he signed that all was in order.
However, on July 30th €275.90 was charged to my credit card. I rang Dubrovnik Avis desk and asked what was this charge was, the person on the other side said he would sms the report to me, I still have had no contact with Avis.
I tried a number of times but no answer.I emailed Avis costumer srvice directly and no reply or response.
I checked the rental agreement and realised that they did charge me for extra insurance (Super cover under optional Services)
The reason I hired a car from Avis was it was supposed to be a reputable company. IT IS NOT!!
They deliberately scam their customers.

very poor car and service

When we picked up our car, there was no GPS system. I asked the customer service and they mentioned there is no Avis car having GPS which surprised us. They said that we have to use CarPlay which did not work with Samsung mobile. How could a car be provided without a GPS. Also the car given to us does not have good condition. The gear is very difficult to change and parking handbrake does not work as it should be. At many place, we were in risky situation due to bad gear and handbrake.
The car is making too much noise and does not catch speed at highway which has been difficult at highways. The accelerator are felt moving during speed.
We are bit surprised and disappointed to see Avis service. Though, we don’t have much car option available for us due to peak time so we have to manage with us very carefully.

AVIS SCAM DUBROVNIK INSURANCE

Record on video you signing for just the car with no insurances as they SCAM you. I stated no additional insurances, they then hand you an ipad saying it is for release of car and deposit only. Then when you return from holiday they retain around £180 for insurances. Any reputable company would take insurance premiums at start of rental as separate transaction, not hide the scam in the deposit. They then state you signed for it and have used that signature from ipad in multiple places, not refunding. This is Fraud by them

Do not use this company

Do not use this company. I clearly stated that i did not any extras at all like insurance, breakdown protection etc so when i was checking my paperwork before i left the depot i queried the estimated charges section on it with the office and was told this was a deposit and would be refunded once the car was returned with no damage. When i got home i received a bill for 162 Euros. I contacted my Credit Card company who put a block on the payment but it was resent due to my signature being on the paperwork. Both my wife and i could not be any clearer when we queried the paperwork that we did not want any additional costs and they assured us this was the case. An absolute disgrace to brand like Avis, i will never use an Avis again anywhere in the world if they are not able to control there franchises.

Avis Dubrovnik airport scam

Hired a car at Dubrovnik airport and refused all extra insurance as I have separate annual car hire excess insurance cover. The agent then asks you to sign a small e-signature capture pad but includes the extra insurance - the charge after 1 week was Eur229 which you only see if you inspect your credit card statement. This is fraudulent and looking at Google / Trustpilot is a common scam. Avoid Avis in Croatia

Avis Dubrovnik car rental is truly a fraudulent company. They add high cost services without asking any verbal approval from customer. Avoid at any cost Avis Dubrovnik.

I had full coverage agreement, fully paid in advance. But they still added "Premium excess waiver" which added unwanted cost of 200 EUR to my bill. The gentleman at the Avis desk said that this was a deposit cost of 200 Euro that I would get back in due course. But it is a scam and you won't get your money back.

A typical fraudulent incident:
1. Customer agrees verbally on terms not to buy any additional services.
2. Avis representative will still include expensive service items in the contract without asking any approval from customer.
3. Avis dealer will ask customer to sign the contract letting customer think that there are no changes/additional fees included in the contract (on a small electronic pad that is unreadable).
4. For signing they use a very small handheld tablet, they do not print out any rental agreement so that customer can read the contract carefully before signing. Contract printout is handed over to customer when the car is returned to the dealer. And then it is too late to make any complaints.

Please avoid #AVIS at Dubrovnik Airport at all costs.

Crooks of the highest level avoid if you can. They rush you through the handover of the car on arrival and despite being asked to add on additional marks they didn't do it and cant get away from you quick enough. Take your time and take a video and picture of every panel. On return they highlighted a nail size mark on a rear door that you wouldn't see unless zooming in and charged €230 for it. The guy went out of his way to find something and when challenged said you are lucky its not more! Read the other reviews seems like a routine they use to scam more money out of you when you are rushing for a flight. Contacted their customer service and no response at all despite reading the complaint.

Scandalous discrepancy between estimated and actual cost.

I chose AVIS after comparing companies, and hired a 5 seater car from centre of Brussels in June.
My deposit for the car and insurance was taken. However at the desk we were duped into taking out more insurance, when we thought the person was simply confirming the insurance cover we had already booked. Also we were charged Airport location surcharge when we were not at an airport. This charge was not evident from our original booking.
Cost- approximate: £300
- actual cost : £ 486.47

Never ever again rent a car with Avis

Never ever again rent a car with Avis, Split Airport.
Be very wary of any dealings with this company. They will try to sell you hugely inflated insurance which will be more than two times the cost of your actual car rental, even if you decline it and say you have your own car hire excess insurance. They don't take the payment until after you return the car. Make sure you read the contract you are signing - they will use an electronic signature pad at the desk where it is impossible to read what you are signing, so insist you see a paper copy of what you are signing first and read again before you leave the desk to make sure they have not added on the insurance against your wishes.

Inflated Insurance

They’re lying about their insurance. No transparency whatsoever. I rented a car in good faith and bought an extra insurance, which I was told would be 50 euros. Afterwards they doubled the price and didn’t even send me an invoice.

I had made a contract on renting a car with AVIS in Dubrovnik airport. The contract sais, that the price will be ca. 230€ for 2 weeks in august. Only a week after I got the contract and have paid the bill, AVIS cancelled my deal. The new price should be ca. 1000€ for the same period and a similar car. I have a contract, in which AVIS is guaranteeing my price, but afterwords they don´t care and told me, there is no guarantee because of "technical problems". I asked them for helping me with a new car to my original price, but they are not interested in helping me. For AVIS a contract is not a contact for both sides, and a guarantee does not mean guarantee !!!

My experience is exactly that of previous reviewer bill so I will just copy his text below. In addition I can add that the insurance was not charged until the week after we got home so we had no chance to complain when returning the car. "Be very wary of any dealings with this company. Esperienza abbastanza sconcertante .. Tutto semplice all'arrivo ..macchina nuova o quasi . Hunday i10.mi viene bloccato un importo di 202 € circa 1500 kune kroate . Mi dicono che avrò la copertura totale .. il costo del noleggio è 82 € per una settimana e mi aspetto massimo 160 € di assicurazione aggiuntiva invece mi chiedono a fine noleggio 344 € totali ovvero 262 € di assicurazione e 82 € di noleggio ..Chiedo informazioni al customer service e dopo un mese non riescono a darmi delle risposte soddisfacenti sulle tariffe applicate .ESOSI e SCORRETTI
