0 Stars! Absolute rip-off & con-artists. I ordered 4 x Australian made bee hotels. Misleading local artisan stories praying on people’s good nature. Playing the game and getting around this country’s (Aus) rules & laws. Absolutely should be shut down immediately. Nothing like unique hand-built items described. Totally fraudulent. Very deceptive identity and backlinks. Very high risk and unsafe. Obviously mass produced rubbish and very strong mould smell even though I couldn’t see it – or perhaps it had been fumigated. Immediately after purchase I sensed something was wrong & called my bank straight away – the bank assured me it was fine and legitimate because they handle scam’s everyday but turned out not to be the case. I have since cancelled my credit card and ordered a new one. If AI is so good then why can’t it detect a scam and shut the business and website down. Unfortunately the Trustpilot reviews were non-existent at the time but are now doubling every couple of days.

Yep! I was caught out. Ordered 2 handmade rain drums only to discover they were shipped from China and had nothing to do with Tasmania at all. The clincher? Instructions say not to be put outside, then how is a rain drum supposed to work!

Scam company. Do not buy. They sell you a totally bogus story about hand-made goods then send you some cheap crap from a $2 store. If you have been scammed by this company, you are not alone so pls do something about it and report them to as many officials as you can so they get taken down. Dispute it with your bank as well. In Australia, there is Scamwatch. Also, report them to Google:
Report a scam ad: Click the three dots (⋮) next to the Google ad or shopping listing, select Report ad, and choose Scam or phishing to send the details straight to Google's review team (Report Scam ads on Google).
And complain to the platform that hosts them, eg. 'SHOP' (who will say they can do nothing about it), but they can & will if enough people say they don't trust the platform and won't shop on there any more.

Beware. Do not deal with this site.

The story surrounding the availability of the product is completely false.
Purchased a supposedly copper bird bath and two weeks later no delivery.
Tracking the item is non existent.
Enquiries do not get naswered.
Scammers.

This website and the stories are absolutely rubbish. There are no little old men or women making things. The stuff comes from CHINA and it takes weeks and when it gets here it is NOT what you order.

Boy did I get sucked in big time! I bought Bev's bee blossoms and they are so tiny and not true to description. Then I started googling and discovered backroad-goods.com is a dodgy site!!!! All lies!!!! Absolutely could kick myself for falling for the story of the product.

This company is a scam. Claims to support individual craftsman e.g. Reg Tremlett from Devon who makes unique hedgehog houses at £99. You think you are supporting a local business but the whole advertising is fake AI. You get sent a £14.98 amazon hedgehog house via a warehouse in Feltham. The promise of a full refund does not happen, and once I started delving the company is actually listed as being in Guangdong Province. Total SCAM. Can't believe I fell for it.

Claimed to sell handmade goods from an Australian man. Cheap crap from overseas. Marked up and sold with AI story that tugs in heartstrings. Seemingly to take advantage of older aussies

Scam! Misleading backstory about a gentleman making hedgehog houses. Unsuitable product and not as described. Feel stupid but lesson learnt I suppose.

Before I ordered I looked around and found exactly the same totally fabricated heart-felt sales story has been repeated across the world. No artisan makers involved in any of this. What a load of tosh, negative stars are what is deserved,

SCAM. Gutted. Bought 3 hedgehog houses for christmas presents. Feel stupid for not noticing address in China. Also feel quite skint.

Completely fake company. Ordered hand-made rain drums from a little old lady in Cumbria which have failed to arrive. Further investigation shows that they also advertise them as hand-made by a little old lady in Tasmania, so clearly it is all a lie. PLEASE LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKE AND DO NOT TRY TO PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THESE PEOPLE.

Yep I got scammed by these fraudsters too! Keith's handcrafted hollow bee hotel? Rubbish. The roof wasn't even made with copper, and the mass-produced thing was full of sawdust. Made and shipped in from China, not my hometown, as the elaborate sales pitch claimed. Next time I'll be extra cautious shopping online. It's so easy to be conned when you allow your heart, instead of your head, to do the deciding. Interesting times we live in 😏

Item ordered was described as constructed from stained glass. It even stated the number of pieces along with copper outlining the glass. The item received was made from resin and did not contain any stained glass. This company grossly misrepresented the product that I received. I emailed this company regarding this item and did not hear back from them.

This is a total scam. The products are shipped from China. Do not purchase any items from Backroad Goods.

1 star is too high, what a disgraceful fraudulent outfit, just wished I researched beforehand. On the plus side I did receive my hedgehog house, turned to be nothing like advertised and certainly not fit for purpose. They responded promptly to my complaint and informed me to return to a Hong Kong address at my expense or have a 35% refund! I've asked for the refund but don't hold out much hope. A lesson learned.

So angry, with myself AND the scammers. Read about these “hand-built” hedgehog houses. Good old “Reg”, working away in his West Country workshop, turned out to be AI slop. The crap that turned up should frankly embarrass whoever made it. I knew it was going to be crap when I felt how light the box was. Then having opened it and seen the ridiculous little matchwood box inside it with its silly little window, I knew I’d been conned. Needless to say, the box is completely unsuitable for a hedgehog, despite all the AI nonsense about how Reg creates a perfect hedgehog house from quality hardwood. In reality, they are Chinese imports - EXACTLY the same house is for sale on Temu for £30, and even that price doesn’t reflect how shoddy this product is.

How They Operate

• False Advertising: They run digital storefronts marketing mass-produced goods (such as bee hotels, garden items, or crafts) as rare, hand-crafted artisan products made by local elderly woodworkers or individual creators in the US, UK, or Australia.
• Actual Origin: Customers report receiving cheap, machine-made items or materials (such as rough factory pine or plastic) shipped from industrial or overseas hubs (including China and logistics centers in the US) rather than the advertised artisan maker.
• Difficult Returns: Return policies often require shipping items back to overseas addresses (such as Guangzhou, China, or Hong Kong), which typically costs more than the item itself.

Always on these sites, look to where you need to return your item. It's usually Hong Kong, China. This tells you the products are not locally handmade. I've been scammed once before when I ordered a product for bees. Backroad Goods only registered in September, 2026. These scammers take down a website and change the name continually for a new website.

Scam, scam, scam!
The first time I didn't check a companies reviews and they turn out to be grifters. Don't be fooled , like me, by the stylish, cosy advertisements, they are con artists.
The tracking label was produced but the goods have never been sent and probably never will be. They message me assuring me my goods are on the way, but after working for couriers for many years I know the process and know I will never receive my order. They are also not responding to requests to refund me.
