Before I had even stepped out of the car on returning it, they said I had caused damage without even checking any records. It felt like a complete set up.
When I tried to go through it with them they acted as I if I was the crook when every step has shown their behaviour to lack transparency, honesty, ethical let alone best practice.
They had already tried to prevent a cancellation contrary to the clearly written statement of free cancellation on the booking confirmation.
They make it impossible to deal on the phone and only have web chat and try to deny everything you have said and done.
They will not give you the operation managers name or let you speak to them.
Repeatedly refused to give me my copies of the contract, a copy of pre-rental photos and existing damage diagram. Because they are private cars there was already a considerable amount of small to moderate scratches and damage.
Asked from day 1 every week for weeks in writing. These were never answered.
Deducted thousands of dollars out of my account.
I was fully covered insurance wise including a no excess addition that I paid extra for. So none of this should be happening even if someone else did scratch it on my rental.
Did not notify me of any claim, damage, process, or respond to any written or verbal requests at all.
This company is expert at dishonest dealings

No Payment! Don't List Your Car!

Got my car back early March 2019, now is already Sept, 6 months ago... My car got damage at the back, cost $450 to fix. No car listed payment no car claim payment either. Email few times no reply; call up, they say only for pick up and drop off service; live chat, they say will get the payment pay as soon as possible but don't know when will get it. I think this company is bankrupt soon. Anyway to report them?

I gave my car with carhood and it was rented out for 5 weeks, it was October 2018 and they owe me 250$. I still didn't get paid, it is almost 10 months. Tried a lot of times to get in touch with the accounts department, there's no response back from them. They really not gonna pay us back.

I have decided to Lodge a case against them in VCAT Ombudsman. It's gonna cost 82$ and if court finds the fault at carhood they will pay us back with the court fee and our compensation.

I Request everyone who didn't get their pay back from carhood should Lodge a complaint.

Terrible experience

Left my car for two months with Carhood, we got fines, parking tickets that we had to pay ourselves. The car was serviced just before letting it to Carhood and "magically" broke down. They don't cover towing... It ended up costing us more than $3000 and didn't make a cent.
Avoid this company like the plague!!

I booked the vehicle online and I was not happy with the service as I outlined above.

I booked the vehicle online and it stated that the car I hired was a Camry. I was surprised to see my vehicle was an old model Camry with dints and paint removed in places. I thought I’d have Bluetooth to link my phone too but the make of the vehicle was too old. This made navigating the city difficult. When discussing the toll fees I thought that there would be a one if payment of 17 for three days but it was $17 each day. This cost was higher than the cost of the vehicle to hire. This simply was not explained to us clearly. When we returned with the vehicle we thought the shuttle bus could take us back to the airport. The shuttle had just left full and couldn’t take us to the airport on time so we had to catch a taxi. Car hood would have known how many people need to be returned to the airport for flights as this information is gained when you provide details at the office. At no time were we told to return early as there are a number of people all wanting to travel to the airport st this time. I think this was poor planning by car hood. I therefore can’t recommend car hood to another customer,

Misleading, Cowardly, Poor Service, Feels Scammy

Made a booking 16 days in advance. Their website, booking quote and confirmation email all say their advertised services such as the free shuttle from airport to their business address is available during their 'cores hours' of 8am to 10pm. We checked this before booking as we are picking up 8am and dropping off 6pm.

35 hours before our pickup time of 8am we get an email at 4:44pm. Advising us our booking time is outside their core hours, sending an attachment which reveals their actual hours are totally different and change every day from whats advertised. 9am is earliest on Friday and the Sunday they close by 1pm instead of 10pm!

Try to call their support phone line? They close that at 5pm (they sent the email at 4:44pm so don't give you a lot of time to react, they had 2 full weeks to send it earlier) and it directs you to their online 'live chat' on the website. This also closes at 5pm. Sent an email, they responded again the next day just before close of business again.

It also advised since we were outside these hours we should get a taxi or Uber at our own expense.

So we go to cancel on the grounds of false advertising but they hide behind the AirportRentals website, tell you they can't help you and since we booked on that website to speak to them. So we did, turns out if you cancel a booking with less than 72 hours before the pickup time you forfeit the deposit.

Thankfully it wasn't a large amount (~15% of the total booking cost) but I was happier to cancel their shady service and not risk them claiming damage to the car fraudulently and be done with them.

Carhood

Carhood is located in an old warehouse but don't let that worry you. The staff are great and my bond was refunded within 3 days. Polite and experienced and Id definitely use them again. Car was great too at a small cost

Hassle-free

Friendly, competent and helpful. Shuttle bus service was great, no waiting and no hassle when we were the only customers.

Service was 5/5 pretty good

Service was 5/5 pretty good but the car had a couple of annoying issues that brought the experience down (the glovebox didn't shut properly so rattled, and the windscreen wiper water was broken and so driving in Melbourne in misty weather was no joy)
