Easy to book and to arrange collection
I was disappointed to find out that the phlebotomist insisted to collect the placenta as well even though our package did not contain that, we have opted only for cord blood.
My baby needed to be taken blood out of her only because they took the placenta without even telling us while we were going through the most vulnerable moment of our life.
The marketing team seem to have found it very clever to make an offer to the newly parent with a rushed decision to make in the first 72h after birth where they reduce the price for extra package with placenta included.
That is very low of you as a company!! My baby had to be pricked in her foot and squeeze blood out of her because of your selfish and stupid idea!

I understand your concern that the placenta was not available for hospital sampling. Ordinarily this is not the case – any cord or placental samples the hospital needs, cord blood gases for example, are taken before the stem cell collection, rather than after.
We collect the placenta in addition to cord blood and cord tissue because it keeps every option open for your family. If a cord blood sample is too small to process, the placenta gives us a backup source of cells we can store in its place, at no extra charge. Storing the placenta in addition is available too, but only ever as your choice. Collection of placenta is covered by the consent form you signed before the birth, and nothing is stored or charged without your decision.
On the timing, I'm sorry if the offer to store the placenta felt like pressure, this is not our intention. Living cells must be processed within 72 hours of birth, which is the only reason we have to contact families so soon after delivery.

Absolutely terrible experience with Cells4Life. Our child's sample was contaminated with bacteria during the collection process, which was already incredibly stressful. When we reached out to better understand the situation, the support team completely ignored us for days. When they finally responded, they showed zero empathy, delivering nothing but robotic, template-style answers. To make matters worse, they are not following proper regulatory body instructions regarding mandatory sensitivity tests for contaminated samples and asking more money to do that. For a company handling irreplaceable biological material, this lack of care, competence, and basic customer service is unacceptable. Avoid them.

I'm sorry the result wasn't the news any family hopes for, and I understand why you're upset. I've looked into everything you raised myself.
Whilst uncommon, unfortunately contamination is a known risk of collection, as birth simply isn't a sterile environment. That is why we set this risk out to parents prior to booking, and why if a family would rather not keep a contaminated sample, we don't charge for processing and storing that tissue.
All of the technical questions you raised were answered in detail, and personally, by our chief scientific officer, written specifically for your situation.
On the testing, as a bank licensed and inspected by the Human Tissue Authority, we follow the UK standard in full. Antibiotic sensitivity testing on a stored unit isn't part of that standard – it's normally done much later, at the point of any clinical use, by the treating clinician. So it isn't something we would usually carry out at this stage, but we arranged it for you anyway, at our cost, as a gesture of goodwill.
