Avoid Centre Com
Avoid Centre Com: Months of Incompetence, Deceptive Practices, and Zero Resolution
I purchased an ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM 32" 4K monitor for $1,749 — an expensive, premium product that failed within just two weeks of purchase. What followed has been one of the most frustrating and incompetent customer service experiences I have ever encountered.
The monitor developed serious display faults almost immediately — green crackly dots, red dots through the screen, and the display cutting to black after 10 seconds. I followed every troubleshooting step Centre Com requested, tried multiple cables, different devices — nothing worked. The product was clearly defective.
From there, everything that could go wrong did. The initial pickup for the warranty return didn't even show up. I explicitly requested a replacement under Australian Consumer Law — they issued a refund anyway without my consent. When I pushed back, they agreed to a replacement — then their accounts team accidentally processed the refund regardless, cancelling the replacement. And to top it off, the refund I received was $50 short of what I paid — I paid $1,749 and received only $1,699.
Only after having to chase them repeatedly and threatening to escalate to the ACCC did they finally agree to refund the missing $50. The fact that it took that level of pressure just to recover money that was rightfully mine speaks volumes. A legitimate business corrects a refund shortfall immediately — you don't have to fight for it. To me, this is indicative of deceptive business practices and I would strongly caution anyone considering purchasing from Centre Com.
I will be monitoring whether the additional $50 is actually returned, and if not, I will be proceeding with a formal ACCC complaint regardless.
Do yourself a favour — buy your electronics elsewhere.
I had a very disappointing experience…
I had a very disappointing experience with this store and would not recommend it.
The day before my purchase, I went in and clearly explained that I needed a microphone compatible with my computer. Instead, I was sold a $60 webcam with a built-in microphone. When I got home, I realised the product was completely unsuitable — it could not even be connected to my computer due to the USB connection type. In other words, I was sold something that simply does not work for my setup, despite explaining my requirements in detail.
I returned to the store the next day to resolve the issue. I was immediately told there was no return or change-of-mind policy. I explained that this was not a change of mind — the product was incorrectly recommended and does not perform the required function.
After waiting around 30 minutes for the manager, the situation became even worse. The manager implied that he did not believe my explanation and suggested that no staff member would have sold me that product for my needs. This was extremely frustrating and unprofessional, essentially treating me as if I were being dishonest.
After a lengthy back-and-forth discussion, I was finally offered only a 75% refund, which I reluctantly accepted just to resolve the situation.
Overall, this experience was poor from start to finish:
• Incorrect product recommendation
• Lack of product knowledge
• Dismissive and unprofessional management
• Unfair resolution
Prices may appear cheaper, but the lack of proper service and accountability makes it not worth it. I will not be returning.
Unusable product, no refund.
Ordered a Ubiquiti Superlink, they shipped me the European version which can’t be used in Australia. Refused return. Will never shop from again.
GPU Purchase experience
Bought a card when the store had a 10% off sale. Received a unit Damaged in transit, organised a return, wanted a replacement. Was told when the Centrecom staff received the unit that I could organise a replacement, then was told they were going to send it off to pny to fix as they aren't a repairer. then got told the card itself was end of life so only a refund was possible and they had no care to honour the original agreement. Won't ever go through centre com again to buy anything like that. Their online warranty team and customer service/knowledge are poor at best.
Ordered a PC for my office
Ordered a PC for my office. It took over 3 weeks to receive it. When I checked the the delivery link the item went from location to location and delivery date kept changing every 4 days. When I raised my concerns I either didnt recieve replies and when they did reply it was a generic apology. It affected my business as I could have the new staff member start work for over 3 weeks. It cost me money and time and they couldnt even offer any compensation or discount vouchers, just a sorry.
Very slow to ship. No response to tickets
Ordered 2 powerbanks that were listed as being in stock. Its been coming on a week and no sign of them shipping. Submitted a ticket on their website 2 days ago and no response to it.
No contact from them at all.
Try to support an Australian company and this is the level of service you get. Should of just bought on Amazon.
Good experience
After reading all the negative reviews, I had purchased an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D. I forgot to add freight insurance, $7.24. I didn't think I would have much luck with my request, being a low-ticket item. I filled in a support ticket on Friday. On Saturday, I received an invoice for the $7.24 from Angel, which I paid, then on Sunday, I received an email from John B confirming the sale, item shipped on Tuesday. I received it on Wednesday, everything was sealed and new. I was amazed that their team was working over the weekend. Great work. I have another order in, hoping this one goes as well.
Poor customer service and inaccurate website
Ordered two monitors and the website said there was stock. Waited a week nothing had progressed so I called and the person I spoke to said someone would call me back in 24 hrs. No call after 72 hrs so I called. I was informed there was 1 monitor and they could send that and cancel the other one so then I would have to pay for more postage rather than them sending 1 and sending the other when it arrived. I asked to speak to a supervisor they wouldn’t put me through. I was polite the whole time but the customer service was terrible. They cannot tell me when I will get my 2 monitors.
Great service and experiance.
Great service, after missing out on a flash sale, they provided me with the same discount and a voucher. Awesome, I couldn't believe it.
Even if the item is shown as in stock…
Even if the item is shown as in stock at the store you are ordering from. It's not. This leads to lengthy delays. Use another store.
NO RETURNS
Item didnt work as expected without being faulty.
Unlike every other shop, they would not allow returns even though item was bought less than a week previously.
AVOID THE HASSLE AND BUY ELSEWHERE
Excellent customer service
Got a pre build from here, was working fine for about a year then it crashed. Brought it in and they fixed it on warranty within a few days. Fast and clear communication throughout the process.
Pretty clear cut appalling experience
Pretty clear cut appalling experience. Paid full price for a brand new nintendo switch 2. They sent it interstate in a thin mailer over the retail box. Arrived with the box torn, crushed, dented, looking like it had been hit from every possible angle. Their response to me requesting a partial refund or replacement was basically too bad unless the console is damaged, which there is a risk of because retail packaging is not meant to be a shipping box. I explained the retail box is part of the product especially a console and its resale value, and I paid full price. No apology, nada. Predictably horrific. Obviously I’ll see if I can get help via consumer affairs victoria blablabla but it’s just so disgusting. Well done centre com for my amazing experience and for sending a brand new console someone paid full price for interstate in a thin plastic mailer.
Bought a new lap top in August 20255 had…
Bought a new lap top in August 2025 had issues from the beginning after a call in december, I took it back to the store in January. All they did is reboot the lap top after I told them and had photographic proof that it is a software issue, they did't care. Told me they couldn't control ISO or windows. What a load of crap. It was a GIGABYTE brand I would avoid this brand and stay away from springwood as they don't care. It cost me $1250 roughly. 5 months old.
Over-enthusiastic anti-fraud
I paid with PayPal. The account every time for everything, because I don't like leaving details with retailer I don't know. I have used the same account for over a decade, and it's the same address and card I have always used.
After paypal had taken the money from my account and processed the transaction, I receive an email demanding identification. They were asking for enough ID to completely steal my identity.
I feel like when you use PayPal, it's up to PayPal to do that, not the retailer, and that they are asking me for way too much identification.
⭐ Review
⭐ Review: Serious concerns about transparency and “open box” practices – proceed with caution
I am posting this review so other consumers can make an informed decision before purchasing from Centre Com.
I attended the Centre Com Nunawading store intending to purchase a new laptop. I was advised by staff that it would be quicker to order the same model online rather than wait in store, so I followed that advice. At the time of purchase, the laptop was presented as a normal product listing. It did not state that it was “open box” or second-hand.
After the purchase was completed, the situation changed. My receipt later showed the item as “open box”, and the product link was removed entirely rather than remaining live as “sold out” or “no longer available”, which is the usual retail practice. That alone raised serious concerns about transparency.
When the laptop arrived, it was clearly not new. The internal seal was broken, protective packaging was missing, and there were visible scratches on both the casing and the screen. This is not consistent with what most consumers would reasonably understand as a simple “open box” item. A scratched display indicates prior use or handling beyond inspection.
I contacted Centre Com immediately with photos and requested an exchange. Instead of addressing the condition of the product, I was repeatedly told that scratches and visible damage were “consistent with open box”. This position was maintained despite the fact that “open box” was not clearly disclosed at the time of purchase.
By the time a refund was eventually offered, sales events had ended, leaving me financially worse off. The handling of the matter, the shifting description of the product after purchase, and the refusal to provide a like-for-like replacement have left me with serious concerns about Centre Com’s practices.
I am now pursuing the matter through formal consumer channels.
Advice to other buyers:
Do not assume products are new unless it is explicitly stated at checkout.
Be cautious with any listing that later changes description or disappears.
Get written confirmation of condition before purchasing, or consider alternative retailers.
This review reflects my personal experience and is shared to help others avoid a similar situation.
Centrecom Refunds
My experience with centrecom online was over all 9.9/10
I bought two items at the same time. Ram 64GB DDR5 6000 Kingston Fury (expensive or what lol) as it was advertised at a great price. No problemo, item arrived next day. Awesome work Centrecom. 5 out of 5 stars.
My second item .. RX9070XT OC .. my experience was with a refund.
Showing online as 'in stock' at both Brisbane stores, I rang to double check both items were in 'stock-on shelf', and available for immediate delivery (as I had previously been shafted by another company on pre order ram back in late nov).
I purchased online, after that pH call ended. Both items $2200.
I received shipment details for ram within 30 mins of purchase, I did not receive one for Graphics Card.
Another check online, showed pre order only. It had changed from in-stock only mins earlier.
Another call .. they tried to say it was not on pre order. I asked if it was on shelf. Answer was "it will take 7 days to arrive at store".
Effectively that makes it PRE ORDER ONLY and the deception was not appreciated.
Centrecom stated a full refund will be given (as payed). ( Centrecom took responsibility for their mistake.)
Three business days and money had been credited back to my account !!
Centrecom was awesome ..
4.9 out of 5 stars. Well done guys 😎
