Extremely disappointing installation…
Extremely disappointing installation and after-sales support
We paid Clever Energy Boilers over £6,000 to install a new heating system at our property in April 2025. Unfortunately, our experience with both the installation and the subsequent after-sales service has been extremely disappointing.
Around 14 months after installation, multiple components installed by Clever Energy failed, including a motorised valve, pressure relief valve and expansion vessel.
We called Clever Energy before authorising any repairs to ask about the warranty. During the call, their employee told us that we would need to contact the manufacturer. He then said he would check the position with the installations team and call us back.
That call never happened. Clever Energy has subsequently acknowledged this in writing.
An independent Gas Safe engineer inspected the system and advised us that the incoming water pressure was approximately 8 bar, that this excessive pressure had caused the component failures, and that it was unsafe to leave the system in that condition and required immediate repair. We therefore had no reasonable choice but to proceed with the necessary repairs, which cost £453.
We subsequently contacted Clever Energy again. During that conversation, we were told that the failed components would have been covered under the warranty, but that Clever Energy would not reimburse us because a third-party engineer had already carried out the repairs.
This is particularly frustrating because we had contacted Clever Energy in the first place, before carrying out the work, specifically to establish what was covered and what we should do. Their employee promised to obtain clarification and call us back, but no call was made. Had that promised call happened, we could have followed the appropriate warranty process and avoided the £453 cost.
We have retained the failed components and have supporting documentation, including the repair invoice and correspondence with Clever Energy. We have also formally raised our concerns regarding the excessive water pressure and whether the system was correctly installed and commissioned.
What is most disappointing is that, having paid over £6,000 for the installation, we expected reasonable after-sales support when multiple components failed within the stated two-year warranty period. Instead, we have been left £453 out of pocket despite contacting Clever Energy before arranging the repairs and despite subsequently being told that the failed components would have been covered.
Clever Energy has now issued its final response and refused to reimburse the £453.
Potential customers should consider not only the installation itself, but also how the company handles warranty issues when something goes wrong.
This review reflects our experience and the correspondence we have received from Clever Energy.

You contacted us on 29 June to ask about the issues you were experiencing. During that call, our agent advised contacting the manufacturer regarding the component failures and explained that he would check with the installations team and call back.
However, the call recording does not contain any statement that the faults were not covered under warranty, nor any instruction to proceed with independent repairs. The advice given related to the manufacturer’s warranty, which covers manufacturer components. This does not replace or contradict the separate two‑year installation warranty provided by us, which covers installation workmanship. The two warranties operate alongside each other and the advice given on the call was consistent with that structure.
Following the call, no further contact was made with us before the repairs were authorised. We were not given the opportunity to assess the system, confirm the warranty position, or attend under warranty. The manufacturer was also not contacted. As a result, neither party had the opportunity to follow the warranty process or prevent the costs you incurred.
We understand that the independent engineer you contacted advised that the system required urgent attention. However, because the repairs were arranged and completed without consultation or authorisation and outside the warranty process, we are unable to retrospectively validate the circumstances of the failures or accept liability for the costs.
We appreciate that this is not the outcome you were hoping for and we recognise the inconvenience caused by the missed return call. However, we must be clear that we cannot reimburse costs arising from independent repairs carried out without giving us or the manufacturer the opportunity to attend under warranty.

Poor level annual service and customer support. Reviews on here focus on boiler…
Reviews on here focus on boiler installations not service plan performance. Been with Clever Energy 4 years post boiler installation, the level of customer service is very poor, dreadful waits via telephone, even longer waits via email and frequent cancelled service appts the day before despite being made several weeks in advance meaning a couple months go past. You’re tie’d into their 10 year service plan so over a barrel so think carefully about that service plan.

From the first call with James from…
From the first call with James from Clever Energy Boilers East Midlands, I was spoken to with empathy and he was patient and understanding of my situation. He took the time to go through what boiler I would like, where the boiler was situated, how many bedrooms, bathrooms and radiators were in the property, where the existing boiler was located and where it vented the exhaust. He requested photographs which I supplied and he came up with a very reasonable estimate. He explained in detail what we would receive in the install, how long it would take, and the after care for the boiler.
The agreed date of the installation, a smart and very polite engineer arrived on time at 8:00am and explained everything with my mother, who this boiler was for. He put down carpet protection and commenced work. Once the install was complete he sat down with my mother and explained the wireless thermostat and how to work it, going through step by step while my mother operated it. He left the house spotlessly clean as he found it. Excellent company from the beginning to the end. Highly recommended.
