Airport is run well, the public transport let’s it down

This was the 500 Express Bus from Glasgow Buchanan Street to Glasgow Airport.

I arrived at 8:20am on a Sunday and was told not to board as the bus would be another 10 minutes. I went to the toilet and returned five minutes later (still well within time) only to see the bus pulling out.

By the time the next bus arrived and got me to the airport, it was 9:15am when I finally stepped off. The roads were completely empty; the delay was entirely due to how the service is operated.

Fortunately it was off-season and a domestic flight, so I was able to run through the airport and just make it in time.

£11 for a single fare, compared to roughly £25 for an Uber. I wouldn’t trust this service again.

Woeful Security Operation

Quite simply, the worst airport security experience and set up I’ve seen at any airport.

A busy departure schedule on the Saturday morning. 8 installed scanners outside of priority boarding, only 2 of which were staffed and operational. Loads of security staff sitting at other machines seemingly not doing anything. They could have at least jumped on to clear a backlog of bags to be checked manually after scanning if they couldn’t operate the machines.

One scanner not moving bags through at all for lengthy periods due to a backlog of bags to be checked. At no time did the staff doing the manual check prioritise resource / passenger flow to clear the backlog - had two people manually checking bags where there were at most 3 at a time waiting. One person working on the backlog of at least 10 bags and growing. Not difficult to use common sense and move people to where the issues are.

A lot of bags appeared to be being pulled out for drugs swabbing. Didn’t seem particularly random / like it was a reasonable sample given the number. I was told there are new machines at the airport - they seem overly sensitive. A quick word on people who leave over 100ml items on their bag when you are not allowed to: they should be fined. It’s not difficult to follow the rules and you unnecessarily hold others up.

Finally, I asked whether anything had triggered my bag for a check. It was a 75ml bottle of branded hand moisturiser. Really is pathetic that the machines are triggering standard items for a review. If you are going to let people leave the liquids in their main bags then sort the machines out to be better at picking up what actually needs a check.

The whole security process should have been about 15 minutes but transformed into a near-flight missing shambles. I flew out from Birmingham a couple of days before - totally seamless with accurate scanning / resourcing that allows liquids up to 2 litres with no fuss. Chalk and awfully mouldy cheese in terms of experience.

Shambles of an airport that I’ll actively look to avoid in the future.

Terrible experience

They know how many people to expect every hour ( more or less). Only 2 security machines working at a very busy time. 2 hours to check in to Emirates and get through security.

Not much joined up thinking

The usual greedy drop off parking applies to this airport with little to show in terms of investment.

Toilets were filthy after security. Human waste over toilet roll dispenser, hooks missing off doors, wet floors. Not been cleaned in a while.

Good choice of shops but the airport is tired.

Security is fast but no joined up thinking.... If asked to remove boots you have a chair to remove them but not to put them back on while your walking on the grubby floor.

Completely useless with a bad attitude

Completely useless with a bad attitude. Unlike cleaning and OCS staff who were really helpful but did not have access rights to help us retrieve our delayed baggage. KLM, Swissport all useless. Glasgow airport deserted after 11pm! Either that or Swissport staff were skiving. Such a bad experience!

Don’t book valet parking

If you’re thinking of booking valet parking, don’t. Our vehicle was damaged when we returned and of course they denied liability. I definitely won’t book again, there are plenty of alternatives. Save yourself a repair bill and book elsewhere.

Arrived at 1am from Kos and, for a change, there was a quick bus from the plane and relatively painless passport check.

Bags took over an hour to arrive on the belt!

Awful arrivals experience

Like others have said - departure absolutely fine. But arriving at Glasgow airport has been completely shambolic in recent years. We arrived late last night (around 1am) and waited over an hour for hold luggage. No staff available-with the exception of one guy who explained that ‘five flights have arrived so it’s busy/slow’. Wait - what? You mean five SCHEDULED flights arrived at an AIRPORT?! Wow - yes I can see how that came as a complete surprise!! Swissport / Glasgow airport management need to get their act together. Ruins a holiday each and every time. And god knows what visiting tourists think! Terrible customer experience.

Customer service non existant

My wife's scarf was mangled in xray scanner rollers at Glasgow Airport and couldn't be retrieved. A claim form was completed by staff who advised someone would be in touch.
After 6 weeks no one has been in contact and recorded letter has been ignored. Phone line just rings out then goes dead. No option to email so very poor customer service and looks like they don't care when customers property is damaged in their own machinery.

Cannot believe how antiquated the…

Cannot believe how antiquated the airport is for parking an EV. We are meant to be transitioning to electric but the airport do not provide a service to park and have your car charged on your return.
It says there infrastructure isn’t there yet but tell you about how they are changing their fleet to electric. What’s the point if passengers can’t get their vehicle charged!

Great Experience

I flew into Glasgow on Wednesday I had arranged special assistance. I was lucky enough to get Curtis he is one lovely young lad nothing was too much bother to him. He is a credit to Glasgow airport. One of the best experiences with assistance. Thank you Curtis.

Avoid choose a better option
I used Glasgow Airport valet parking recently for the first and the last time, I handed my keys at a cabin, (had to park behind a van parked outside the cabin and walk to it) I was given a ticket. Upon returning I produced the ticket and was handed my keys, told my car was parked in bay 82 “over there” (approx 300 mtr) I had to negotiate my way through a building site, very bad lighting in the dark at 1.30am, rain was pouring down. This is NOT valet parking. I would have been cheaper, drier, dropped off and picked up by taxi or taken to within 50 mtr of my car, using one of the many private airport parking services in the area. Save yourself money and stress, choose another option.

10% discount offer was useless

On return from my last trip I received an email offering a 10% parking discount if I booked using the link in the email. Decided to use it for my next trip and unfortunately the discount didn't get applied at checkout. Reported it via the website and received an email from NCP saying they had forwarded my complaint to the relevant department. Never heard back from them. Decided to fly out from Edinburgh and what a difference - Parking was much cheaper and communication was great. Used the money saved to for extras such as priority security and lounge access. If you have a choice I would recommend using Edinburgh airport

Unacceptable wait for baggage reclaim.

Glasgow airport needs to understand it's baggage reclaim times is completely unacceptable in a modern society.
I landed from holiday in June at 2am, it too lk 50 minutes to get the bags from plane to terminal which I put down to the time of night and a low level of staff to support for minimal flight.

Today, Sept I land at 1.40 in the afternoon and bags are not available until 2.30pm. Unnecessary, unacceptable and a completely lack of customer support from all levels.

Clearly understaffed at a time if day when they are at capacity and therefore demand us higher.

But they know I have no choice but to wait as I'm a small insignificant part of the process.

The airlines have an absolute cheek on them expecting their passenger to put up with this unacceptable delay.

Why?????

Too many fast-foods in a small hall!

I love GA and use it regularily, but lately it took a bad direction by inviting more American-style restaurants that offer low-quality fast food and pollute the air. The main hall is now cramped and smells permanently of burned oil. Nobody should be forced to eat it, breathe it or later smell of it! Glasgow Airport should rethink it's strategy and attract better quality vendors, not the corporations with the biggest buck and zero consideration for their consumers and other passengers.

A real mixed bag

A real mixed bag. The experience flying out from this airport was the polar opposite to the returning flight. The outbound was smooth with plenty of staff and scanning equipment to ensure that everyone got through. The inbound was hellish. Very few staff and limited avenues to handle the returning passengers. To make it worse one of the staff members said it was because it was the busiest time of day. Meaning they know how many potential passengers were due through and they didn’t put on sufficient staff or processes to manage. I feel sorry for the airlines as this reflects poorly on them put it is outside of their control.
It is obvious that Glasgow Airport are trying to force people to pay for express handling yet they go through the same channels.
Pure incompetence and greed.

How to ruin any trip

Dreadful. Ruins any trip. Nonsense ‘family’ channel in passport control making anyone travelling alone wait longer- how is that fair? Airport is Filthy, old, tired, no staff about. 1 hour for luggage to arrive. Looks like the same drivers picking up passengers (which was a 20 minute wait) also must be collecting the baggage. An absolute embarrassment. Avoid at all cost until investment is made.

Absolute Shambles

Absolute Shambles. 1 hour 10 minutes to get through Security this morning, when are you going to make it bigger or have all security gates working during busy periods. Staff walking about hands in pockets not displaying a professional attitude. Bags are checked then you are left to pack it again but asked to move on so they can check others. Get to gate and flight is delayed. Dispatchers cant deal with problems, ask supervisor about getting on new flight says go to gate 8, woman at gate 8 starts getting annoyed as people are coming over . She then makes a call and then, says we need to go to gate 10, but by that time we are at the end of a queue of about 30 people and the next available flight is full. Why do you think it is ok to treat travelers this way
