Just always read the small print.

Really do not know were to start..
Harrington Brooks should have been taken to court for fraud.
I was poorly in 2012 , I owed around 12,000 , they advised me to go on an iva, so I did!
2013 I had a number of ppl claims that payed out over 17, 000 but I was told I still had to pay my iva payment of 160 a month .. i did for the few years... was contacted by two different companies saying this had not
been paid.. another ppi was claimed 5,000 this time..
All in all I was literally robbed of thousands of pounds... pure evil, praying on vulnerable people.

I was in a IVA with Harrington brooks, customer service was spot on. Since my IVA was completed I have a number of ppi companies contacting me saying they owe me money and sent the cheque to my IVA company. back in 2015 I fought and had a solicitor contact the company at the time which they agreed to send me the cheque. Since 2019 I have another PPI cheque sent to, im guessing now the current company owner and refusing to send me the cheque. They do not even respond back to recorded letters, phone calls!! Im now in the process of speaking to a solicitor and taking this further.

An update on my previous review

An update on my previous review. I now now that out of the £6000 I paid them for my debts they had £2280 for themselves and paid themselves more than they paid any of my creditors. Do not use these for debt management please go to a place that does it for free to genuinely help people in debt and not to make money off them

Trying to track someone from Harrington Brooks down

Hi, I am trying to get hold of someone from Harrington Brooks as I need a copy of my IVA plan when it started January 2016 I have statements on my bank account with every payment made. I know it went into liquidation and Greg Pennington took over until early 2019 until IVA took over and now been taken over my FSI now
I just want proof when my IVA started as I can’t find my documents or access emails to Harrington Brooks
Please help

If i could have given 0 stars, I would have. What a disgusting company. I was talked into taking out the IVA when I was recently divorce, depressed and in £7000 worth of debt. The lady who sold me the iva seemed so caring, and made out that she was giving me a lifeline by not only wiping some debt but also by lowering my monthly payments to an affordable amount that I would only have to pay for 3 years. 8 years on, I am still paying. I have payed the £7000, and am still expected to pay another £7000! I am in a worse position now that what I was when I started the iva. I have letters of creditors updating me on payments the iva have made on my behalf and they are honestly paying pennies off the debt. I wish I'd never seen their advert for helping with 'struggling debt' They have ruined any chance I ever had of having any savings or my chances of living a debt free life. DO NOT BOTHER WITH THEM.

Absolutely shocking service we were…

Absolutely shocking service we were paying £120 a month on Debt management with Harrington Brooks and finished paying them many years ago, now debts have started crawling out of the woodwork as Harrington Brooks had not been making the payments on my behalf after all, I have now seen they have gone into administration. I would love to know where all the money I paid them went. Unfortunately I have moved and have no paper trail to prove that these debts should of been paid in full.

We took over the active cases at that time, but we also have records for previously closed cases. Not sure what is going on. Need some answers.

I was with Harrington Brooks for quiet a few years paying my monthly fee in a IVA to clear debts. After 5yrs + I finally made my last payment. Before I forget this company did change names half way through our agreement to freeman’s.
Today one of the debts that was included in this IVA contacted me saying I still owe them money. I have tried to contact them via email to explain this and email is being returned undeliverable. Please let me know your contact details.

Terrible...they never listened to the…

Terrible...they never listened to the fact they included a debt which was already paid off in full. Started off with approx 15k debt paid my IVA off in full cost me £27k .strange thing was I thought I had applied for a Tesco loan to consolidate debts myself then out of the blue H/B phoned me up. Told me to stop paying my creditors (never missed a payment prior) . Feel totally mis guided and Tesco have no record of me applying for a loan????

Harrington Brooks was a trading name of One Advice Group, which went into Administration in 2018. We are the new owners - we purchased the brand and various assets at that time. I am afraid that if you wish to make a complaint about the firm dating back to pre 2018 then you will need to contact the Administrators.

This company is an absolute joke

This company is an absolute joke, after contacting them in 2015 they assured me that taking the IVA was the best way. My payments more than doubled after two years and on contacting them about it was spoken to extremely rudely!! Mine finished in January of this year and now they are telling me I've still £1600 to pay. This was the biggest mistake I've made, they say they can't close my case until the money is paid. I've been paying for 5 years!!!!! These people can seriously ruin someone's life.

Thank you for taking the time to feedback. When you enter an IVA you agree to pay back what you can afford to your lenders (and anything left if written off). If what you can afford increases over the term of the IVA - perhaps because you get a pay rise - then your payment may also increase. If we only find out about the increase later in the IVA this can result in 'additional money' being due to be paid into the IVA to catch up - which must be done before it is closed. I know my colleague has now contacted you about this and hopefully we can resolve it with you. Ian

Do not go down the IVA route with this company

Well what can I say about this company..lots. About 10 years ago I was contacted by them as I was in a bit of debt. They steered me in to an IVA, well it nearly ruined my life.
When I rang up to clear the debt outright the person I spoke to was rude so from that moment on I ignored them. Then they outsourced the debt to three debt recovery companies. I couldn’t get credit for six years, sometime after that I made offers to those debt recovery companies which they were happy to accept.
Now I own my own property outright and have £70k in the bank. I have a good mind to sue this company for the problems they caused me in the years 2011-2017. Do not believe a word they say to you.

Dont trust these cowboys.

The reply from Harrington brooks that you can see shows there still passing the book.
Never there fault administration just seems like a excuse perfectly scipted by this company.

refund on fees??? and you have contacted everyone !!! must have missed that one
I was with that bunch of criminals around ten years taking over half my payments in fees without me knowing until they mistakenly sent me a full breakdown of what I paid then brushed it under the carpet so don't say you've contacted everyone

Thank god someone got hold of this cowboy outfit , at the end of 2010 I paid for the privilege of being conned £250 , for about 16 months I paid the company £125 a month to a pay creditors and b pay ongoing service charge , I asked on many occasions for a breakdown of how much creditors had been paid and how much was left , they sent me a email of amateur stats written out by one of their own staff as I was still receiving calls from creditors shows how bad they really were , please stop patting yourselves on the back if people have been affected why did you not contact all of them

When you start a DMP it can take a few months for the creditor contact to reduce, this doesn't mean that lenders aren't being paid. Thousands of customers will complete their DMP with us this year and leave us free of the debts included in it. Thank you, Ian

Harrington Brooks - Avoid avoid avoid

Harrington Brooks customers have received refunds in regards to the high admin charges against our payments, I made a complaint regarding this that fell on deaf ears, as at the point of joining Harrington Brooks they were never mentioned and had I known I was being charged for the service would have gone to CCC or Step Change who offer the same service for free. I also had to make a number of phone calls in to prompt them to do things like looking into PPI on my credit cards & loans, looking into IVA’s and chasing them as to why the hadn’t paid my creditors on time and putting further defaults against my name due to their inability to make payments on time. I was paying an Admin fee for my best interests to be looked after and clearly they wasn’t. These complaints should be visable on my case. Please can you kindly look into this and come back to me?

I will be contacting your dept shortly, (I hope the issue can be resolved since you have taken over, without going to solicitors).

I was with your company from 2006 - 2015 I paid DMP with extortionate monthly fees, made numerous complaints throughout, generally brushed under the carpet.
To my horror on fully paying up and checking throughexperian I had a default notice against me ??? Bizarre as I had paid on time month on month for as you can see years.
I later found out they had not been paying a company, sorry in essence they were paying the wrong account ?
I had to wait a further year after paying the debt fully off before I could get rid of the default notice.

From what you say, your DMP closed well before then which means it will be the Administrators of Harrington Brooks that will investigate your complaint rather than Gregory Pennington. Refund of admin fees from Harrington brooks!

So I had a DMP with Harrington Brooks which seemed fine and didn’t seem to have any issues. After I was down to a manageable amount of debt, I cancelled the plan and decided to go directly to my creditors in order to avoid HBs admin fees.

Today, I have received a letter from Gregory Pennington (the company that took over HB) to say that HB didn’t act to the highest of standards so due to this error they are repaying me all of my admin fees paid over the years!

For anyone who has any issues with HB, I urge you to contact Gregory Pennington and question your plan as I think there’s something they’re not disclosing and possibly have got into trouble for not paying companies.

They start off really well but after…

They start off really well but after the first year they didn't seem to care. We have managed to settle early in May 2018. We are still waiting for the final completion certificate. Not once have they called me. They didn't even call on the day of the settlement meeting. I had to call them to find out what had happened. I then received a letter that made no sense at all. It did not give any instructions of what happens next so again I had to call them. We then made a large payment but again heard nothing. A couple weeks letter my husband called the to make sure they had received the payment and it had not even been allocated. It took them over 2 months to change my address. My husband tried calling today to find out if we are any closer to receiving the certificate but apparently theirs systems are down and he has been told to call back on Monday. They also still have over £200 of ours as we were told not to cancel the DD until we had confirmation of the early settlement. They take a huge amount in fees and do not see to do much for it. We are really hoping for the certificate and the over payment back within the next few weeks so we can move on!
