I would give zero stars if I could
I would give zero stars if I could. We purchased a pool pump from Hayward Pools, and it broke down in less than two years. I contacted customer service, filled out the warranty forms, and did everything they asked. Even after escalating to a supervisor and making countless calls over several months, not a single technician ever showed up. We eventually gave up and bought a replacement pump from a different manufacturer.
Poor product quality and absolutely horrible customer service. I highly recommend avoiding them completely. Hayward has no in-house certified technicians; they rely on local dealers who clearly have no vested interest in performing warranty repairs because Hayward doesn't pay them for it. Bottom line: if you buy from them, expect to be completely on your own when it breaks.
Do not buy ANY Hayward Product
Spent $1500 on a new pool pump 6 months ago because my pool guy said Hayward was the best. He was so wrong! It is not working, only 6 months old but told no problem because it’s under warranty. My pool guy filed the warranty 2 weeks ago and I still have not heard anything from Hayward. I call them and my pool guy/co every other day and the pool co working with Hayward under the warranty says Hayward rep does not return their multiple calls and emails. I call customer service during biz hours and get a recorded message saying to call back during business hours! I will never buy a Hayward product again. This company makes inferior products, does not honor their warranty and has 0 customer service.
BUYER BEWARE
Deserves Zero stars. Their products recently are utter garbage, the quality of the products are designed to just make it past warranty, then you are on your own!!!
Purchased V-Flex upgrade kit for it because some bearings got a bit tight after 8 years of operation. DO NOT Buy this upgrade kit, it is absolute garbage!!! The bearings in the bearingless system collapsed in just over 1 year of operation, these bearings go on the v-flex mechanism, both wore through the garbage bearing retainer plastic. Picture of this included, it looks like some employee went home and 3D printed these with extremely bad filaments. This upgrade kit is stupidly expensive so do yourself a favour and do not do it. Put your money into a different brand spend a little extra and seriously reward yourself down the track.
Hayward BEST support and backing!
My experience with Hayward is above my expectations! I have a pool and spa, all equipment is Hayward; Pump, Heater, Filter, Omni controller, Salt T Cell, ALL IS A Hayward. Heck my poolbot is Hayward. My pool has been in for 6 years and is used all year long. I would expect some upkeep issues. I can say this about Hayward…They have ALWAYS stood behind any issues, especially those under warranty. I will sum it up like this, I am a current and future Hayward customer. Their support staff are prompt and helpful. We love our pool and are grateful we spent a little extra money and went Hayward for equipment.
My Haywood variable speed pump went bad…
My Haywood variable speed pump went bad after two years. I was told it had a three year warranty. Warranty is not being honored. Very poor customer satisfaction and communication. Very expensive, broken pump. Don’t recommend doing business with this company or product.

Always having problems with this faulty POS!
The worst service ever
The worst service ever. Still waiting months later for a reply to my email and for my product to be fixed under warranty. The pool shop is also waiting months later for a reply on where to send the item to be fixed or have offered to fix it themselves as they are embarrassed with how long it's been.
Was hoping someone could let me know…
Was hoping someone could let me know how something like this could cause this to happen. My Hayward pool heater 7years old had it serviced 1 once since had no problems until 1 evening I went out to turn it on and it fired right up as usual and all seemed normal. BO Codes nothing running fine next morning went out to see how warm the pool got and found out the heater was on fire! Fire thankfully put itself out while we were sleeping and we didn’t even know it was on fire, Yes we got lucky because the gas line and heater is about 2 ft from our home and my house could of blown up. Called Hayward and they did send someone out to look at it but haven’t heard anything back from them not returning emails /calls nothing . Hoping someone could tell me what would cause this to happen why did it stay running instead of shutting down if there was a problem with the heater. Please anyone have an answer for me I really need to know why this happened or more importantly why .
Hayward 17kw error 08 control board fail
Brought a Hayward - prsrwo40h117 energy line 17kw pool heat pump as I thought Hayward was a good brand it certainly cost a lot more than other brands -it is barely 3 years old and control board or controller has gone ! Error 08 - No warranty? This is Ridiculous!
After 2 years and 8 months
After 2 years and 8 months, the pool's salt system broke. No one was responsible. No one wanted or could repair it. Never again Hayward.
No sure who to slam with this rating so…
No sure who to slam with this rating so I will divid him up in item quality and follow up. I purchase a Jacuzzi Pool Pump thinking I was matching up to a Jacussi Filter. I did this thinking I would have less concerns. Whoops did I make a mistake. Turns out their is NO brand integrity and what you get is on you. I have a pool pump that has been and issue from day on. So to be brief because no really read long growls. The Jacuzzi Pump really a Hayward Pump failed first year. The issue was determined to be the motor and after more hours than count I carried it down 75 miles to the local Leslie's Pool store to have them determine the issue. Then Hayward shipped the new motor (my word) to me to have it installed by a pool expert (My Money). Next summer same issue all over again accept now we have more issue each and every step of the way. The whole summer wasted. Now we have a pump that will not pump unless I push the water through with a pipe clearing bladder. The bad side of the is the pump running with out water cooling it heating up to the point of it burning up and catching fire. Enter the question if it has failed the second time it must be the pools side and not the equipment side. Okay lets go there. Day one bump is taken out of box incomplete, it missing the connection fitting. Delay number 1 and my supplier (who I purchased from) Leslie's Pool agrees to send me the part which I have to pay for since there is no way it is there fault or their suppliers. Year one the pump starts have issues. Finally it is determined I need to take it to the closes Leslie's Pool store and after 4 days of sitting on their hands then determine it is exactly what I and my rather expensive pool service tell them the issue it. Ten days latter the pool motor arrives and I get my expensive but knowledge pool service back to install the motor. Lets cut the issue down to something less than a novel. I would estimate between the install and service calls this pump has cost me north of $2000 in cost and service calls. The sad part is I an my wife have only been able to use the pool 6 times in 2 years. I don't care if its on Jacuzzi(Product purchase), Hayward (Manufacturer) or the seller Leslies Pool this is still a mess the end user should not be subject too. So to this end I am going to copy this post to each.

Heater died after 1.5 years an it cost over $4.5K. They can't seem to find my warranty and they are not helping fix this issue.
I have had a hayward chlorinator for a…
I have had a hayward chlorinator for a few years now. The salt cell kept throwing alarm for check salt and check cell. Cleaned many times same result. I bought a new sell from a Internet hayward seller. Installed and the same alarm come up. I contacted Hayward and was told to contact a hayward dealer to get warranty covered. I called one and was told that if I did not buy from them they would not cover. I then contacted Hayward again because this unit has a three year factory warranty. I was basically told to bad and they never tried to get ahold of me again. I bought another brand with a seven year warranty. I will install next season and see how it does. Hayward will not stand behind there warranty unless you buy from a hayward retailer or have it installed buy a professional even though it doesn't take one to install. They are a company I will never buy from again.
Faulty product.
Faulty product.
Dismissing customer service.
We have had to replace the Aquatrol system five times in the last 18 months, as the board keeps frying. This has cost us $2000. Do not buy this product. They will offer to send a replacement, which, is the same faulty product.
Hayward Lacus 320 colorlogic lights are…
Hayward Lacus 320 colorlogic lights are the most poorly made product that Hayward Pool products sells. They are extremely expensive to replace and last nowhere near what they are advertised to last. I have replaced 4 of these lights in 4 years, with new ones lasting 6 months to a year with limited run time of 2 hours per night in the summer and off all winter in the south. They are not warranted past 1 year of purchase and Hayward does not back the defective nature of this product. I caution folks not to build pools with this product.
Pool pump fails right after the warranty period , absence of value for the money .
Our pool pump came with a one year warranty . Seems the 3 year warranty comes only if you have everything installed by Hayward personnel ( which , translated , means you paid indirectly for the warranty extension ) . We paid for the pump with a credit card that afforded us an extension of the warranty , bumped up from 1 year to 2 years .
The pump failed after 2 years and 2 months of usage . Overheating .
I have spent $7500 to install a pool…
I have spent $7500 to install a pool heater 2 years ago couple of days a go i went out to turn it on but the $7500 plus $1500 salt filter want start.
Monday morning i called Hayward seeking help but i was told that Hayward don’t have database for there customers i said you must be kidding so i called my installer he sent me a copy of the invoice but he said I can’t fix it because you have to have specialist for this unit so i called pinchapenny store #163 and i was told that Hayward must find you na tech but when i called Hayward I a was told to find a tech with refrigeration experience.
Hayward need to provide their customers with much better customer service and make sure there dealers can handle any issues not only that but they should never ask you if you purchased the unit from them and if you say no they give you the runaround.
CANNOT GET MY HAYWARD PRODUCTS…
CANNOT GET MY HAYWARD PRODUCTS REGISTERED ON THE HAYWARD WEBSITE. CS WAS NOT HELPFUL. WHEN I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH ANOTHER CS REP, I WAS HUNG UP ON.
Our Hayward 17kw pool heat pump stopped…
Our Hayward 17kw pool heat pump stopped working after about 18 months. After two visits by an approved technician, it was discovered that a gecko had crawled under the power controller causing a short circuit of some sort resulting in the unit to stop working. After 5 months, a replacement power controller was installed under warranty only for it to fail within a week. On inspection, it was discovered that another gecko had crawled under the same power controller causing the issue. I can kick myself for not assuming that it might happen again and looking to avoid something similar from happening again but assumed it was a rare event.
Hayward refused to replace the power controller under warranty again and provided me with a quote of just under $500. I have raised this with their NSW customer service manager, Simon Gamack, indicating that it is a design flaw and unless the power controller is modified, the same issue will probably happen again or with other customers as well if not already. They are not interested in offering further assistance.
Hayward’s Dishonor
Hayward has lousy customer service and does not honor their warranties. I offer my own experience as the latest example.
Hurricane Helene struck the west coast of Florida in September 2024 causing a storm surge which inundated our Hayward W3H150FDP propane pool heater with salt water. In December of 2024 I replaced it with the exact same model at a cost of around $2500.
After only 4 months in service, this new heater sprang a major leak causing our pool level to be lowered overnight to a level below the skimmer opening. After removing the cover and rain shield, the problem was immediately obvious. Due to a manufacturing defect of the heat exchanger, 3 to 4 of the radiating copper fins were pushed back from the thermal wall of the exchanger baring about a 1 inch section of the core copper pipe to direct heating exposure from the flame. This intense heat of course took the path of least resistance to get out and across this bit of the bared copper pipe. After continual roasting for 4 months, this section of bare copper pipe deteriorated to the point that it finally failed and burst. After removing the heat exchanger from the heater and disassembling it at Hayward's request, I sent photos from all angles including a closeup view of this compromised section of the exchanger. These photos showed clear evidence of the heat deprecated pipe with the hole in it.
After viewing only these photos and without a "hands on" inspection, Hayward's customer service personnel concluded that the damage was due to improper chemical maintenance of the pool water. Therefore Hayward would not honor their warranty to replace defective parts. They did however offer to replace the damaged heat exchanger part (FDXLHXA1150) for their "at cost" of more than $1100. I informed Hayward at this point that I could buy this same part online with free shipping at Amazon or any number of online pool supply stores for less than their "at cost" offer.
In looking at photos showing examples of chemically damaged heat exchangers on Hayward's training site, I compared the photos I sent Hayward. My heat exchanger showed no such chemical damage. Except for the heat damaged section, the rest of my exchanger looked pristine which one would expect after only 4 months in service. Therefore, this assessment of chemical damage and their "at cost" replacement offer was nothing but pure BS on Hayward's part.
I've had pools most of my life. Knowing the importance of proper maintenance of pool water chemistry and its effect on the health of both people and equipment, I have always maintained proper chemical balance in my pools including this one. In fact, after installing the new heater and before disposing of the one that had been flooded, I removed and kept its heat exchanger. So I do have a good point of comparison to see (1) what a properly manufactured exchanger without defects looks like, and (2) to see no "evidence" of either heat or chemical damage of the old exchanger which had been in service for 2 years prior to the occurrence of Hurricane Helene.
After having repeated discussions with Hayward's customer service personnel relating to all of the above, they still refused to do the right thing and honor Hayward's warranty. They did bring their "at cost" offer down to $550 however. I view this as extortion. If I don’t pay this, all I have is a useless $2500 brick with Hayward’s name on it sitting on my pool deck.
After this experience, I have no further desire to deal with the cost, time, and aggravation of what is Hayward's idea of customer service. So, needless to say, I won't be buying any more Hayward products from now on. I urge all who read this to do the same.
