I now have to change how I use MY PERSONAL PHONE due to HealthEquity's login requirements. Be prepared for a lengthy, drawn-out, privacy-invading process.
Today was the second time I had to speak with their tech service to be able to create a login. The first time, I was given incorrect directions, which caused me to have to start all over again. If you can go with ANY other HSA provider, GO.

Terrible customer experience

Terrible customer experience. Denied claims for reimbursement for qualified expenses (orthodontics payment plan reimbursement) repeatedly, with differing feedback provided as to why the claim was denied. Health Equity advised me to contact my orthodontics provider to have them change the payment type from "auto payment plan" to "orthodontics payment," on my ledger to resubmit the expense for reimbursement. They would then pay the claim. Ridiculous - putting the 'blame' on denying the claim to the provider's naming of the charge for the payment plan monthly charge/expense.

Has anyone who works at HealthEquity…

Has anyone who works at HealthEquity actually used this product? I'm completely unable to log into my account from a web browser (any computer). If you try, it directs you to set up the app and a passkey. For a while, I couldn't even set up the app, then when I did, there were so many steps to setting up the passkey. Eventually the app said "your passkey has been set," when I never actually chose any sort of access code. On top of all that, when you try to change certain settings in the app, it takes you out of that app and TO a web browser. The app asked me if I wanted to take a survey. I figured that would be a great time to give the feedback. The survey timed out while I was giving feedback. I've had multiple HSA accounts and this is by far the most over-complicated and the opposite of user friendly.

Crooked Company - very difficult to work with

I've had an FSA Account for years with different companies and never had one isse. Last year an old HSA Account and FSA account were changed by my employer to Health equity. I have spent hours on hold trying to resolve several issues leading to a significant loss of funds. Representatives said Yes Ma'am so many times to me I have lost count with absolutely no resolution to the problem. I was locked out of my account for 2 1/2 months. I made multiple calls and IT requests and was ultimately told I had a duplicate email which created 2 accounts. During this time my FSA funds were being pulled out of my HSA and I was unable to return the funds to my FSA. I also had money from a 2025 procedure billed after Feb 1 & taken out of my 2026 account by Health Equity . I was unable to resolve the issue prior to the end date even though it was their issue I lost a significant amount of money from my FSA account. If I could remove my account I would in a heart beat. It was a great win for their company as I lost the funds to them. Seems like a very fraudulent company.

Extremely Poor FSA Administration Experience
Where to begin—this has been one of the most frustrating benefits experiences I’ve had.
Receipts submitted by fax are rarely received the first time, requiring multiple resubmissions.
A large percentage of claims are rejected, even those from legitimate hospital providers.
The company relies on outdated, inefficient processes that lead to repeated calls just to clarify basic documentation.
Overall, the experience is time-consuming, frustrating, and completely lacking in customer focus. Given these issues, it’s easy to see why this company has a 1-star rating.

Inconsistent

I have dealt with this company several times over the past 2 years since they are the carriers for my Flexible Spending account through my employer. I have had nothing but problems submitting claims for reimbursement. I submitted several documents that were approved at one time then turned around and denied at other times. Each time I was given different reasons for the denial and different instructions depending on who I spoke too. This company is inconsistent in their business practices and the training of their employees.

Straight up deducted money from my account every month. The phone service cut me off. Card wouldn’t process at register. Out of my $50 they stole $33 and today I was able to recover $17 only because the lady at the register helped me process the exact $17
If there’s someone reading this, stay away from doing business with this company. They should be taken to court and forced to pay back all the money they have stolen from people this way.
Employers should be warned not to associate with thieves like this company because they will take the money from your employees.
Someone is getting rich off something that was supposed to be an employer benefit package. This should be ilegal.

This has got to be the most backwards system in 2026. It is SOOOO difficult to navigate or understand what is being asked of you. When asked to submit more details about a claim, after doing so, I'm told it isn't adequate. Do they give any additional feedback? Nope. Try calling - no help there either. I have never in my life been as frustrated navigating and using a system as I am with this pile of garbage.

Horrible

Horrible. Absolutely horrible. Health Equity denies claims -- valid ones -- and requires an enormous amount of paperwork to prove claims. It should be up to me and the IRS to handle my FSA reporting, not up to my employer to end up with 1000 bucks at the end of the year because they deny everything

Year after year I'm locked out

Second Edit: I did receive word from a services specialist finally today, and he was actually rather nice and seemed adamant in getting this resolved. If you're having issues with regular support, please do as I didn't and document the time, number called from, and number called to so he can help coach. There's zero reason most of these reviews should be like this, imo. I did express my concerns about the verification process with feedback, for those who are just coming in to review.

Year after year I'm locked out. Year after year I get mocked or ignored when I say I want my account deleted (I don't care about the amount my HSA has, I may as well not have it, I can't access it or use it!). I'm frankly speaking about to start looking at legal ways to dispute this company, as this is a joke. I barely consented to being signed up for these benefits just for them to slowly whittle away at my balance and defer responsibility for their actions. Abyssmal consumer support, horrid website, too many third party handshakes, zero support - They just take your money and absorb it month after month. Just look at the other reviews and see if you feel like shooting yourself in the foot this badly.

Edit: I'm now transfering my HSA ta complete different service. After hours of trying to verify, I was randomly accepted with pictures that didn't even vaguely have my ID in view. See the Better Business Bureau and Yelp for similar reviews. One of the only five star reviews even on here is a staff member, and while I can understand being yelled and sworn at sucks, I don't appreciate those claiming theseone star reviews are invalid. I'd still be a customer if I ever received proper service, OR HELP.

P.S. Date of Experience was 2018 to 3/30/26. Not sure why it keeps correcting to 3/29.

I am extremely frustrated and…

I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with HealthEquity. For months, they deducted money directly from my paycheck, money I worked very hard to earn, with the promise that I would be able to use it for medical expenses through their card. However, when I needed to use the remaining balance $900.00 they did not allow me to access or use my own funds. The money was taken from my paycheck, and I trusted that it would be available when I needed it most. I feel taken advantage of and let down by a company I trusted. I strongly recommend that others be very cautious and fully understand all the terms before enrolling. My experience has been frustrating, unfair, and unacceptable.

Even if you elect and pay them, they don't appear to do their job and appear to lie about it.

Souse lost job on 6th of month. Did not receive our COBRA notification in the mail after 2 weeks. We called them and elected coverage and paid by the 19th of the same month for both that month and the following month. Tried to verify coverage on the 21st; not covered. Tried again on the 23rd no coverage. Called health equity, and they claimed they sent the request to initiate coverage to the insurer that day due to our call. On the 25th, still no coverage. Called again. Again they claimed they had sent request to the insurer on the 23rd and did so again on an expedited basis due to our call to them on the 25th. On the 26th, still no coverage. Called health equity they again claimed they notified the insurer on the 23rd and on an expedited basis on the 25th. So, called the insurer on the 26th. Insurer said nothing received from Health Equity at all.

The worst app ever!

The worst app ever! There's always an issue logging in and then it locks you out for trying. It is not easy to use and as a retired person who has many doctors visits I need to use often. Getting reimbursed can be a nightmare depending on who handles your request. Calling customer service is also useless. This is my retirement perk. Great, Thanks.

Horribly run company

I opened an account in 2010, last deposit was 2015 for a medical IRA. When I went to use some of the money invested in 2024, I found that 21,000 of the 26000 was gone. Someone accessed my account at Health Equity and drained 21k from the account.
It is IRA money, and that money needs to have taxes paid. I have asked HEquity to explain what I just did on their letter head...they have refused. Do not trust these folks. The interface on line is difficult. No one returns requests in a timely manner

HE locks out Computer only users

HE gives no mechanism to log in unless you install their app or a 3rd party one on a mobile device or use invasive biometretrics, which in any case my PC doesn't have. This is not enhanced security at all. It holds you hostage to multiple parties and means of compromise.

If I could give 0 stars I would. This company is a nightmare to deal with. Repeatedly needs receipts and claims filed for stuff you already did. Denies receipts that make no sense for the denials, stating things like services provided not stated in receipt, but it clearly says for Orthodontics. Never have I experienced such grief trying to get ahold of my own money.

Stay Away

Needed to close my account since I no longer worked for a company that used them and the account was almost depleted. Closed it and they kept the remaining funds as a "closure fee" with ZERO communication to me that would happen. That kind of thing should be illegal...STAY AWAY and find somewhere else to create an HSA.

This passcode thing is CRAP

This passcode thing is CRAP. I was not able to set it up on my phone (I wound up having to remove malware that took 5 hours) and then decided it wasn't worth the risk to my phone again so I closed my account. It's just not worth the phone app. They are not providing my 12/31/25 statement nor copies of any forms sent to the IRS, so I'm flying blind. NO DATA. This is breach of fiduciary responsibility, I believe, but they don't care. I do care but will have to work around it in spite of them.

Pass code is crap!

Everything used to work fine online. You log in, you pay your bill. It took 5 minutes. Then they added this passkey thing, which took me more than two hours to set up and works only on my phone. Will not work on my desktop. Since I have vision problems I prefer to work on my desktop. But not now! Now I have to squint on my phone. More than 2 hours of set up for a three minute task!!! Not really the worth the effort and made my blood pressure go up.
