Charged £100 for just a quote

Charged £100 for just a quote - the quote was ridiculously high (£900 to fix a leaky tap) and I was quickly able to find another trader to complete the work for a fraction of the price. Be very wary not to use for a callout as they will charge you a full hours labour even if no work is done.

Unprofessional and unreliable

Booked a day off work to have a visit and quote. The window was 8-12pm. I waited and waited. At 11:40 I called to check status. She was very cavalier and said he was running late. She said its a very busy time of year. No call or message beforehand to let me know. A simple call in the morning to apologise and let me know he would be unable to attend would have made a big difference. If I didn't call, I would not have known. Unprofessional and not nice customer service.

AVOID AVOID - at all costs. Told me to buy an air con for them to install. and then bailed entirely on the work and left me with an uninstalled very expensive air con! Terrible company

When I called to find out what has happened, I was falsly accused of 'screaming' at them, which I certainly did not. Specifically asked them to call me back and not cancel the appointment. They sent an emailed again falsly accusing me of manner and cancelled the apointment. I am truly shooked at their attitude to get rid of customers.

Very disappointed with this company

Very disappointed with this company. I booked their service, but they never showed up. When I called to ask what was happening, they told me they were just running late. Later, I got a call saying they’d come the following day instead. Then, the next day, I received an email saying the booking was cancelled altogether. Completely unreliable and a waste of my time.

Highly recommend

Highly recommend. Outstanding service and helpfulness from Rafal. Boiler failed in Christmas cold snap (-5C) and Rafal went out of his way doing everything possible to fix it, even staying til 8pm, and making repeated visits. When this proved impossible, he put in a new one on a Saturday morning. Could not have been more obliging. Hollie in office also very prompt, good service. Would use again

Very pleased with the interactions…

Very pleased with the interactions with, and work done by, JAR Mechanical. From start to finish they were responsive. They kept me informed of progress and turned up when they said they would. Hollie was very helpful in arranging the appointment around my work needs, and their engineer, Rafal, was a delight to have working in my home, explaining everything that he was doing and being very considerate to the occasions when he had to keep the noise to a minimum as I was on calls. Best of all, I now have what seems to be an almost endless supply of hot water!!!

Courteous, efficient, professional service

Engineer arrived promptly. Assessed the situation and outlined a solution. Already had the materials in his van so could fix the two flue brackets required immediately. Courteous, efficient and professional. Would recommend.

Terrible Service AVOID

Very disappointed with the service received from JAR Mechanical. From start to finish, the experience was frustrating and unprofessional.

Booking the initial appointment was a challenge, I had to chase multiple times for confirmation as no one returned my calls. The appointment was then rescheduled twice at the last minute due to changes on their end, causing unnecessary inconvenience.

Following the site visit, communication completely broke down. Despite several calls, and an email, I received no response. The investigation was completed on 5th June, yet two weeks later I’m still chasing for a report I was told I’d receive by 17th June. I’ve had to call repeatedly just to get basic updates.

When I finally requested a refund due to the poor service, I was dismissed without so much as an apology or any acknowledgement of the concerns I raised.

This isn’t about the money, it’s about the principle and the lack of accountability. As a service provider myself, I expect a minimum level of professionalism and courtesy, which was completely lacking here.

Would NEVER recommend.

5 Star Service From Engineer Darren

Absolutely outstanding service from Darren, the engineer who came today to install my gas cooker. It was a complicated job but Darren went above and beyond, showing expertise, professionalism, patience, friendliness and kindness. Everything you could ever want in an engineer. I am so appreciative of all he did. If this is the standard for Jar Mechanical they deserve a 5 star rating here on Trustpilot. I must say that the office staff who helped me with my booking were wonderful too. Highly recommended.

expensive and late

quote a gas hob replacement for a total of 135 plus VAT and parts. They end up charging 230 plus VAT and parts. Also they came 1 day late, promissed a 10% discount, that never materialized. With so many engineers providing this service, better to stay way from JAR.

Trusted engineer to service the boiler

The engineer Darren seemed to have done a good job in servicing the boiler. It hasn't been serviced for a while and he reported any issues with the boiler which may be of concern. I was happy with the service, luckily no problems found with the boiler though dated but finding parts for it may be a problem.
The costs and rates were transparent. I was informed of the charges when booking the service.
I deducted a star which could have been 5 stars due to their short notice cancellation on the day. Their office called in the morning booked for the service to say there was an emergency call-out and no other engineer available so had to book another date.
But Darren came on the re-scheduled date on time, was polite, friendly and courteous. He just got on with the job servicing the boiler and did a thorough job with it.

AVOID THEM

AVOID THEM! Number of things went badly.

First they tried to charge us the highest rate for a bank holiday emergency call (which they said was a mistake - were they not aware it wasn't a bank holiday and it was 2pm?).

Secondly, they charged us 2 hour rate for one drain. They didn't notify us that the rate was per hour rather than per job. We wanted one drain unblocked, the engineer kindly said he would do another free of service and then charged us for the extra 30 minutes of time. He also spent 15 minutes going back to him van to get his tools, despite knowing we called for a drain unblocking. Finally the time went just over 1:30 mins so we had to pay 2 hours because and i quote "The 10 minutes the engineer spends in the van after the job writing up his notes counts).

Finally, the drain had just blocked again after one month. Waste of £350.

Booked a repair to a gas fire, appointment 12noon to 4pm sent email at 3.30pm phoned at 3.50pm got an email after 5pm saying left voicemail message, but it was left at 4.30pm.
Shocking, I personally would worry that if that is how they treat a new customer what is there work like. Cancelled job, booked with a company with much better reviews.

TERRIBLE SERVICE - two missed boiler service appointments with no contact and no reason given.

Booked a boiler service and was given a 2hr window for the engineer's arrival time, with the confirmation email stating that we would be notified in good time of any delay beyond the 2hrs. No one showed and no one contacted us. I called up during the 2hrs window and no one answered. I managed to speak to someone later that afternoon and rescheduled the appointment for the following week... and the exact same thing happened with our second booking - no show and no contact. Terrible service (non-existent, evidently) and beyond frustrating having had to arrange my diary to be at home on both occasions. If I could give zero stars I would.

I'd always be happy to recommend them!

I've used JAR for a number of jobs in Central London and I am really happy with their service. The team are friendly, professional yet down to earth, explain things clearly and respond quickly. They moved heaven and earth to have a complicated job completed days before Christmas for me. Whilst I wouldn't say they are cheap, they are thorough and take great care over their work to ensure it is completed properly first time, you get what you pay for. I'd always be happy to recommend them!

Extremely expensive quote for job.

So they came out and said new thermostatic shower cartridge was required. That visit cost £108. Then I was sent a quoted £638 to carry out the job. No breakdown of labour or parts. I then asked for a break down for labour and parts. This detailed 3.5 hours for labour and £216.67 plus Vat for part (£260). Online, the same Aqualisa cartridge, non-trade price averages at half this price e.g. Plumbworld £125. But in fairness, the most expensive one I could find cost £240 including VAT.
Long story short, another company got the part and completed the job for less than half the price I was quoted. They were surprised I was quoted 3.5 hours labour time.

Hi Clare, The first we heard you were unhappy was when we asked you to pay the invoice for our attendance, up until that point we had no communication from you and no request for a breakdown of the quote. You had already gone elsewhere.

I am sorry if you feel our quotation was expensive but once you had expressed this to us we explained the reason behind the costs.

JAR Mechanical really go above and beyond not only with the office team but on-site team also.

Jason, Rafal and Hollie are extremely responsive and are always available in a pinch - they have assisted greatly in some touch situations where time has been of the essence.

Jason takes the time to fault find and come up with numerous client friendly solutions within a reasonable timeframe.

The team are thorough, responsive and a pleasure to work with.
