Very poor service. Very flawed method of deciding who to entrust your building works to. They may recommend a building company but they have no more knowledge than you do. The roofing company they recommended to me employed an individual who was grossly incompetent at roofing. I needed to spend more money on another company to remove the roof; they showed me the various flaws in the original company's work. Having written a complaint to the Association in January 2023 I had heard nothing by June! When I rang them they couldn't find my details...until they checked a previous computer system. What a convenient way of losing complaints! They described how companies pay a registration fee to join...what due diligence there is must be highly questionable. Once a company leaves their registration there is no accountability. At the end of the day its down to the customer to check on reputation and abilities. The Association of Master Builders seemed quite content with washing their hands of the matter. Fake reassurance from this lot sadly !

This is the second time we have used the Association of Master Tradesmen to help us find a builder. This time we were converting our garage. Highly recommend their service, they totally put me at ease when getting quotes and sent me useful information I could refer back to. The building firm they recommended were a delight to have around. After looking around locally for some quotes, we eventually chose a contractor through Master Tradesmen. The Association were able to recommend two more who came round to quote.

Esme was extremely helpful, going even further to chase up one of the quotes, meaning we didn't have to wait quite as long for it. I was extremely happy with the service, and was greatly reassured knowing that I was using a builder that had been recommended to me, and knowing that I had support available just a phone call away if it were needed.

This is what the Association of Master Tradesmen wrote in response to my complaint about their recommendated supplier and vetting procedures:

"Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear about your experience.

We take all complaints very seriously. At the Association of Master Tradesmen we take care to hand select builders suitable for your project who have passed our strict vetting process. This includes receiving and monitoring references from recent customers they have carried out work for. If you have completed a complaints form I will pass on your concerns to our disputes team who can investigate where this case has got to. Once again, we are sorry that you had a bad experience."

Note this response was written on 26th September 2022 and to date, if they have seriously looked into my complaint, they have not responded, they should publish their policies about vetting and complaint handling on their website with their processes and timescales.
The association makes money by charging the supplier a % fee. It's in their interests to have as many suppliers as possible to increase margin.
The timescales to respond to a customer compalint in my businesses (national companies) is 24 hours. Need I say more

Bill and his son were a delight to have around. They turned up on site every day and just got on with the job, even tidied up after themselves! There was a slight delay with the windows but that was out of their control. We're happy with the finished extension and would recommend to friends if they wanted a reliable builder. Thanks for the recommendation and help.

I received a call from Master Tradesmen after we had submitted a planning application for a single storey extension adjoining our detached property.
The association sent me useful guides and talked me through the process - they recommended two local contractors, whom we met and asked them to tender. Both tenders were competitive, and we decided to award the contract to Love Home Improvements.
I can’t tell you how pleased we are with the decision!!
We received regular calls from Master Tradesmen to check that the project was going to plan
The extension is now complete and we are extremely pleased with the result.

We required our garage to be converted into a room, didn't know where to start to look for a reputable tradesperson to carry out the work. By chance came across the Master Builder website, so pleased I did. Easy site to use, add details of work required and you are matched with tradespeople who could carry out the work. We were matched with Warner Building & Roofing Ltd, price good, timeline good and good standard of work. Master Builder team on hand for any question, advise you may need, received in a timely manner. Would definitely use the service again. Jill & Alan

A reliable, professional service that provided four builders to quote on my garage conversion. The builder we chose was one of the best we’ve had, a real pleasure to have around. The Association of Master Tradesmen provided useful information like contracts we could use and I was delighted to give feedback at the end. It made the whole experience much less stressful and I’d recommend the service to anyone wanting more than one quote.

We are very pleased with the standard of work and the way the builders managed the job. They were a good team and nothing was any trouble. They always kept us fully informed on what was going to be done each week and were really helpful with advice on what materials or options we could take or do. For anyone looking to extend their house I would recommend master tradesman. This company kept in contact and gave me enough time to make my decision. It’s not every day you take on challenges like this and with master tradesman it made my journey so much smoother.

I was really surprised on how communicative and responsive the Association of Master Builders were. I would recommend people access services through them, as it’s a reliable point of reference and safety net.

We were contacted regularly through the construction period to ensure all was well. The Contractor chosen stuck with it despite unforeseen delays,did a good job, advised well and dealt with all snags promptly. Slight hiccup over VAT but this put right. All in all ,considering what can go wrong with such domestic works, pretty good.

Master tradesman helped us find Sf Developments to complete a rear single story extension and a loft conversion... They kept in check with me through the build to make sure I was happy advised me on a stage payment contract and if there were any problems or anything I needed.. Staff was always polite and informative

My advise to anyone starting a Home Building project is to get a good Architect and then contact Association of Master Tradesmen. Their team delivered contact with local, professional, reliable Builders who quickly visited the site, gave advice, drafted detailed quotations, and gave us an agreed start date. With the team maintaining close contact with us throughout the project it gave a reassurance that if a problem would occur during the build there was always professional support to call upon. We were building during the Covid19 period with all the associated Supply chain difficulties, but our Builder new his business and the project came in at quotation price and close to timescales. This is the smart way to run a building project. Highly recommended.

Sadly, the whole experience of using the Association's service was frustrating and disappointing.
Of the 2 builders they suggested, one didn't even bother to submit a quotation. The other building company, who was personally recommended by a lady at the AMT - and who I ended up using - I would not feel happy in recommending to anyone (difficult to get hold of, unexplained delays, eventually left the job without completing quite a few of the tasks).

I have copied to the AMT the email I sent to the building company in which I listed all the problems and shortcomings of their performance. It will be interesting to see if I receive a response from the AMT.

Esme at the Association of Master Tradesmen has been a delight to work with. She put us in touch with reliable, vetted builders and provided invaluable advice in relation to contracting with our chosen builder. She has checked progress with us at regular intervals and has been thoroughly supportive throughout. We couldn't have asked for a better service and have no hesitation in recommending Esme and the Association to others.

They supplied a good array of trades and they monitored the progress of the work with me (the customer) regularly. I am not sure how much feedback went back to the builders but the performance was good.
