This company HAS BEEN great since…

This company HAS BEEN great since joining over 15 years ago. They are now beyond repair. I have had 5 different managers and interim managers in 5 years. At all cost, avoid the St. Clair Branch in Toronto. The cancer has consumed the entire branch. The Eastern block commie has undermined all incoming managers and staff to assume a position of authority while the company has not officially seen fit to promote her, as long as I have been a customer. Since the first day I listened to her berating a customer/member, I refused to deal with her on any level. Imagine a Financial Service Rep with a vendetta!!! With the vacuum of leadership, she chose to have a junior teller send me a list of questions regarding the legitimacy of funds. Even after answering all the questions fully, she chose to debank me without reason or cause. Me, who would be considered wealthy enough for private banking in most offshore jurisdictions. Somehow they lost their way with the upper management and the board, naval gazing. Their incompetence is amply demonstrated in the fact it took over 3 hours to close 3 accounts, involving 4 staff. How wacked is that? I feel it won't be long before they blow up and are absorbed by the big six, if they haven't already. If that is the case , then they are doing everything right to emininate what was once an alternative to the banks. God speed and good riddance Galina!!!

a member since the day it…took over HEPCOE

Been a member since the day it swallowed up HEPCOE.
In my opinion and personal observation the service is in decline at an accelerated rate.
Inconsistent teller responses to requests for help.
Last year the teller set up my income tax installments and there was no problem..This year I got a lecture on how that was not their job and were nasty about it.
Patronizing attitude by seniour tellers.
Younger tellers are trying but will be dragged down by the old hags.
Smarten up

What happened to Meridian?

Meridian's service has become so poor that you can now go to any bank, never mind credit union, in Hamilton and receive far better service with lower rates. It almost seems that they are intentionally trying to lose members; especially ones who have been members for decades.

I had my mortgage with Meridian Credit…

I had my mortgage with Meridian Credit Union for 13 years. When my renewal time came up, I wanted to do a refinance with the intention of staying with the same institution. I find that the person I was working with (Initials JM at the Southdown location in Mississauga) had an attitude problem stemming from our first conversation. I got negative energy off the bat. I find the person didnt try hard enough on my file. I ended up getting a Mortgage broker and was approved by 2 different lenders without a problem.

Slow to transfer registered funds to another bank.

I filled out a form to transfer my TFSA to EQ bank (who offer a much better interest rate) 2 weeks ago. I received a phone call 3 days ago verifying my request for the transfer. Although I did verify, the funds are still sitting in the Meridian TFSA account and have not been transferred as I requested. I have also had my online banking frozen twice from what they have described as suspected fraud. I am guessing that they don’t like to release funds to purchase cryptocurrency. I feel like my money is being held hostage!

Totsl incompetence

Didn't go through the legal requirements for identification when I opened an account. I mean, they re the financial people, they are supposed to know and leave it up to prospective members.. Then they froze my account and left a poorly worded message as to what I would have to do to get it unfrozen. An arrogant, so called senior manager phoned me and told me he could legally do this. But, really, to cover up their own incompetence they take drastic action like freezing my account? Total lack of concern for their members,

Not just disrespectful incompetence: idiotic policies too!

In Februery 2024 I wrote a scathing review, and basically I stoppeed using this pathetic excuse of a financial institution. After they managed to scrfew up another couple of times, I closed my account altogether, but I did not close my VISA card with them. When I tried to check online where that VISA account was standing, I could not. I called to get that online access, and I after keeping me holding the line for over 20 minutes with their stupid music, I was told that because I was no longer a member U could not have the VISA account, which had to be closed. Add idiocy to their incompetence! I have credit cards from banking institutions in which I don't have any other account!

What has gone wrong this time

What has gone wrong this time? Good question. What seems to be going wrong with this company is this company recently penalized me and subsequently bothered me and charged me fees for a withdrawal from my account, which had never been authorized in the first place. It was a very simple situation where my auto insurance payment withdrawal was taken by the same insurance company twice because the company (Economical Insurance) didn't cancel the first policy quickly enough. I have a new Group Rate policy through my employer. In any case, this BANK is absolutely no different than any other BANK, as it's stock full of incompetent idiots who send the typical "we value you as a customer" form letters, while treating you like a second class citizen. I recently closed both my accounts with these folks, as I no longer trust these folks as far as I can throw them. Incompetent idiots x 1,000,000 with the typical sub-standard customer service skills we've come to expect from most banks in Canada now.

Been a member for 15 years and I'm 66…

Been a member for 15 years and I'm 66 years old and I'm a multi-millionaire and this place is full of a bunch of bumbling incompetent. Don't know what the heck they're doing. Idiots can't do simple rrsp or tfsa transfers from one bank to another without dropping the ball causing all kinds of problems and then me getting a call from Kristy Keen who was Mean ! I got a call and said Hi. Is this And I said who are you? And she said is this again my name and I said okay. I've asked you twice. Goodbye. I hung up the nerve. The audacity to call me up demanding to know my name. This bank does things differently. They kept telling me you're the owner of meridian. The customers are the owners. That's the biggest fraudulent deceiving contradictory and conflicting statement. But that goes with their flow. That's how they roll meridian's motto is. We do things differently here. Well isn't that the truth and this More on Kristy Keen . They froze my account multiple times without telling me because I didn't pass the security process. When they asked me questions they said you told us the wrong age when we asked you how old you are wtf ? So I got the phone call from somebody I don't know named Kristy Keen And she said we decide to close your account. I said why she said we don't have to tell you. I said well I have gics locked in. It's a binding contract. Then you're going to have to pay me for the full term of the GIC contract. No, we don't. We'll do what we want. We Bank differently here. We do things differently here

Same old story with Meridian 800 line…

Same old story with Meridian 800 line customer service. They don't have a clue what they are doing and/or they are not given the necessary tools to answer very simple questions? I wanted to review a charge on my credit card and he could not find it and said he doesn't have the same screen as me. How can someone solve an issue if they cannot see what the member see's? In any case I asked to be transferred to a manager/supervisor and he transferred me to their American credit card company.

AWFUL experience with Meridian

AWFUL experience with Le* H*r*w**k from the Whitby branch. Her lack of communication and follow up have cost me and my wife thousands $$. Our 1st mortgage renewal was up with Meridian. Life happens... We had a 2nd with another company. We now needed to refinance. We were told by Le* that we we're fine. Unfortunately, this was in the summer while she was taking extended vacation time (no fault of her own she wasn't replying to my emails while on vacation) and i believe she was sick as well. Out of the blue right before we thought we were finalizing with Meridian she emails me saying Meridian is not renewing us because my debt ratio was too high. This left us SCRAMBLING with the other companies' renewal being due soon. NOW... we have a refinance in place with another company but the lawyers, banks, and mortgage company is taking too long to finalize. Now we are past the renewal date with our 2nd mortgage and approaching the renewal date with our 1st mortgage. All while waiting for our refinance to finalize. This is all happening because Meridian threw us a major curveball by declining late in the process. And of course my own fault with my debt ratio. We are now paying $$ thousands in renewal and late fees. Potentially $$ thousands more if this extends another month. IF Meridian simply declined in a respectfully proper timeframe (which would've been fine... that's business) none of this happens as I would've started the process of seeking alternative options MONTHS earlier!!!! Lesson here folks - get everything in writing and triple check your communication with your advisor. No apologies from her either. After repeatedly asking... she wouldn't even send all my information that i accumulated for her in a folder so i could do a quick hand-off with the next company. So we had to re-gather all our information and send it through. Extending us another week or so... Fun times. All this after being Meridian clients for 22 ish years NEVER missing a mortgage payment. UGH!!

I recently decided to switch to…

I recently decided to switch to Meridian after more than 20 years with TD, primarily due to rising account fees. Meridian’s advertised $300 welcome bonus offered for setting up a direct deposit and/or two pre-authorized payments of over $100 within the first month seemed like a compelling incentive, especially as I was actively seeking a new banking provider.

When I opened the account, I explained to the representative that I likely wouldn’t be able to meet the direct deposit requirement by the end of the month. Ss my employer typically takes longer to process payroll changes. The bank clerk was understanding and assured me they would reach out to the marketing team to request an exception. Unfortunately, the request was denied.

By that point, I had already secured a loan with Meridian, moved over my direct deposit, and transitioned all of my pre-authorized payments to the new account. As a new customer who had proactively raised this concern, being denied the welcome bonus over a technicality leaves a disappointing first impression.

I had chosen Meridian under the belief that credit unions offer a more customer-centered experience than traditional banks. Unfortunately, this experience did not reflect that. I will be exploring other banking options, and based on this interaction, I cannot recommend Meridian to others.

Went in to join spoke to an attendant she told me that I would need sin and ID I told her that I would go to my car to get my ID and Sin Card I went outside in the rain got my wallet and went back inside, she then told me that she was going to see if an advisor was available she spoke to a man who was sitting around a computer who then told her that I would need to book an appointment. So I went outside in the rain for nothing, this was before 6 o’clock they said they would be closing at 7:00 o’clock .
So these people are not serious about business or they are Prejudiced.

They were shutting down motusbank and we’re going to give my account to a bank, not even in my province. So I decided to transfer my accounts to a bank nearby and when I put in a request to have the accounts transferred instead of transferring it electronically to my new bank, they made me wait and sent a bank draft regular mail which took two weeks. Seems a little bit like they were trying to get back at me for switching banks and not just accepting the bank that they tried to pawn me off to.
