Was referred to Newmedica on the NHS…

Was referred to Newmedica on the NHS for cataract surgery. First cataract operation was okay.second operation performed by a different surgeon on my left eye was uncomfortable as the anaesthetic drops were administered too early and wore off by the time the surgeon started the operation, who was also too busy chatting to staff during the surgery. I found that my vision deteriorated post operatively. I rang the clinic and was advised that this was part of the healing process. Turned out to be a detached retina. I have since had 7 operations, the last one was very painful, the retinal surgeon told me to keep still, I was first on the list and due to all the scar tissue my surgery was taking longer than expected and I feel as though the operation was rushed. Poor post operative care and the issues I raised during recovery period went ignored. I was left 12 days with my macular off and I am now blind in my left eye. Surgeon has transferred my care to an NHS hospital and a different consultant. I feel that Newmedica are only interested and have time for their private patients.

Newmedica at Worksop & Barlborough for Cataract Surgery

I attended Newmedica at Worksop for assessment following a referral from Vision express. All of the staff were great, took time to explain everything, taking great care and answering all of my questions. After all of the tests I was offered an appointment at Newmedica Barlborough just 2 days later on Good Friday!
I attended Newmedica Barlborough at the allotted time, again all of the staff were brilliant. I went upstairs on time to start the surgery process (medical history, drops for dilatation and anaesthetic etc). Again, the nurse doing all of the prep was wonderful, whilst I didnt of any fears, some others did and she had a lovely way at putting patients at ease.
After a few minutes I was taken to theatre and made very comfortable on their table. The surgen explained everything as well as telling me the various stages as he worked. At no time was there the slightest discomfort only the feeling of running water, a little pressure and a very bright light. I was amazed when he said that's it, were done, so quick and pain free.
Through to the recovery area my vision was immediately improved, nice cup of tea while another nurse explained the do's / dont's and drops.
Ten minutes later I was walking out of the door after just over an hour since I arrived.

Team NEWMEDICA BARLBOROUGH you're the best!

Having catteract surgery on two…

Having catteract surgery on two occasions over a 2 months period including the fitting of stents in each eye, I can only praise the professional service and care given to me by every single member of staff at Newmedica Worcester.
Having been referred originally to the CHEC clinic in Worcester where over a period of some 2 yrs all that was done were pressure checks and told to keep taking the eye drops, it shows the difference between professional care and amateur care.
Newmedica staff and DR Sharma you have given me back my quality of visual sight, for which I am so grateful. Thank you.

Attended Newmedica, Bristol.

Attended Newmedica, Bristol on 8th and 20th February 2026 to have both eye cataracts removed. The treatment and care I received on both dates was excellent. My thanks to both surgeons, Omar and Gemma and all the staff in attendance.

Wonderful staff and good experience

The friendly staff including porter, receptionists, pre op staff and surgeons. I felt very well looked after. I had both cataracts removed firstly on 16th Jan secondly , 7th Feb. Both paid for by the NHS but I didn't feel they treated me any differently from a private patient. I phoned them twice as I was concerned about a slight redness in eye (which went the following day) they were very reassuring. It's now over 4 weeks since my last op. I appreciate everything which was done for me and by the way their coffee machine does good coffee !

Cataract Removal

I recently had cataracts removed on both eyes. Because of the type of lens I chose this was as a private patient. The whole experience was very professional. The staff are friendly and very good at putting you at ease. The Consultant was absolutely excellent and she instilled you with confidence. Would I recommend Newmedica Nottingham - YES

whole experience was outstanding from start to finis

I had a minor procedure under local anaesthetic at Newmedica Eye Clinic in Nottingham to remove a mole from around my eyelid, and the whole experience was outstanding from start to finish.

The clinic is very easy to access with convenient parking, which immediately reduces stress on arrival. The facilities are modern, exceptionally clean, and the clinic and waiting areas feel calm, welcoming, and well organised.

The staff were genuinely lovely and attentive throughout — friendly, professional, and reassuring at every step.

A special thank you to Steven for a thorough and reassuring assessment, and to Mr Giorgio Albanese, who carried out the procedure. Both were excellent — clear in their explanations, highly professional, and made me feel completely at ease. The procedure itself was smooth and comfortable.

Overall, a first-class experience. I would highly recommend Newmedica Nottingham to anyone needing eye treatment.

I won't waste my time and money with Newmedica again. Not impressed at all. The consultant didn't seem to be competent enough to deal with my condition. They don't even know the eye drops they advise to use as an otc are actually prescription only so I can't even buy them. How unprofessional is that..

Very Poor Administration

Had left eye cataract surgery at the end of November performed by Mr Stewart at the Grimsby branch, as a private patient. I cannot speak too highly of Mr Stewart. Calm, caring, professional and he completely put me at ease. I was recommended to see him by my husband who had had surgery to both eyes earlier in the year. However his experience of Newmedica’s admin dept was very different from mine. Firstly the phone number given for private patients is NEVER answered, nor can you leave a message because the recorded message is on a never-ending loop. I tried many times over several days without success. I only ever received one call from them and that was 24 hours after surgery to check that I was recovering well. I never had appt reminders, by phone, text or email. I never received any paperwork, but when I checked my husband’s file I see that he was given a glossy brochure in a fancy envelope that you could store additional paperwork in. The brochure explains the procedure and what to expect. I didn’t get any of this - I was only ever given a business card with my first appt written on it. After the surgery I was asked if I’d got my yellow form which apparently I was supposed to bring along, but no, I’d never been given one. I was fortunate in that I didn’t have any problems after the surgery and recovered quickly. I have had other private medical care, some of which is ongoing and I’m afraid to say that Newmedica’s administration just doesn’t meet the level of service that I’ve come to expect. Private medical treatment is very expensive so you should expect to get the very best throughout. Possibly I’ll need cataract surgery in my right eye at some point. If and when that happens I hope to have Mr Stewart do the surgery, just not at Newmedica. Possibly Spire? I’d advise anyone else to do the same. I would have scored lower, had I not been treated by Mr Stewart

I had a NHS appointment at Welwyn…

I had a NHS appointment at Welwyn Garden City. On arrival, there was a very warm and friendly welcome from the receptionist. Once I started to have the tests prior to seeing the consultant, things changed. The nurse asked me if I would like to go private, and my procedure could be carried out straight away. If I did not, I would have to wait 18 weeks for the procedure. I declined and said I would prefer to stay with the NHS. Then the whole atmosphere changed. Although the nurse was professional in carrying out the tests, her attitude towards me changed and I felt she was treating me with contempt.
When I saw the consultant, his attitude was no better. I felt he could not get rid of me quickly enough! I felt really uncomfortable with him. When I went to reception to book my procedure appointment, the receptionist was very abrupt and said we will contact you in 18 weeks and would not give me a date.
They really need to decide if they want NHS patients or not. If they do want them, staff need to be trained to treat all patients with the same courtesy, regardless of whether they are Private or NHS patients.
Also, their website is misleading, as it states that there is a short waiting time for NHS patients. I do not regard 18 weeks as a short waiting time. They need to make it clearer on the website what the waiting times are for NHS patients.
I have spoken to my referring optician regarding my concerns, and she said she will talk to her contact at WGC and ask him to contact me. I am still waiting for the call.

Had my 2nd cataract operation just over…

Had my 2nd cataract operation just over a wk ago, from the moment I entered Worcester's reception where I met Hannah the receptionist who booked me in to the waiting room which is very clean and tidy and there's free drinks if you want them whilst waiting, to seeing Soji who dealt with my admission, the surgeon Ranjit Nair and the team Rebecca and Katherine in the theatre where it's very hi tech to bring discharged by Kelly all were very kind, caring and full of information. I really can't thank them enough for everything including the aftercare.

Perfect, professional service

This was the first of 2 visits for cataracts surgery. I was a bit apprehensive but was well assured when getting into the clinic to have the surgery done. I was met by the receptionist Jen who was very friendly and made me feel welcome. I was then only waiting a very short time and called in by Sarah who booked me in. Sarah was very professional and made sure I was at ease with the process and knew everything that was going to happen. Had all my eye drops and waited to have the surgery.
Was taken to a room to wait and was met by Mr Woodcock who was performing the surgery and also Hannah and Amy, who were all very friendly and made me feel comfortable.
Nothing felt rushed and it was all very professional and extremely clean.
The surgery was so quick and I felt comfortable throughout the whole process.
I then was handed over to Manshi, who sat me down with a nice cup of tea and a biscuit which was perfect.
Everything was explained ie the next process of aftercare and left with my goodie bag full of paperwork and drops.
It was a quick efficient service and in all honesty it was like going to a posh spa with the best customer service.
I am due to have my other eye done and I am 200% happier that I know it will all be good and have no worries.
Great team, great place.

I Visited today and I must say everyone was very nice and welcoming. The equipment used was very hitech. The reception area was very clean and nicely decorated, the results were clearly explained to me. A great experience and Mr Steward is a really decent and honest guy, thanks.

Having had my right eye cataract…

Having had my right eye cataract surgery in Bristol, I was amazed at how badly this clinic was in comparison. I had a call on my mobile giving me the date of the examination and the place of pick up, no information pack sent out, no confirmation letter. I phoned up to find where at a hospital I was being picked up, oh I don't know ? ok, is it an ambulance, taxi, private car, oh I don't know, eventually I was told to be at the main entrance at 11am, when I got there I found there were 5 entrances, it was only when the pick up driver phoned me that I found it was entrance 5, a long run at 72 I can tell you.
2nd visit for the procedure, we got to the clinic and were processed till the time came for the surgery, not pleasant at all, water gushing into my eye, very little comment from the surgeon, lots of pressure against my eye, then shown back to the waiting room, all very rushed and impersonal.
No follow up phone call, next day as promised, still nothing received in writing. I worked in the NHS for 24yrs and I have never seen such disorganisation.

Incompetent service?

Having travelled from just outside Cardiff to Newmedica, Aspen Medical Centre in Horton Road Gloucester, a round trip of around 160 miles, for cataract surgery, just before turning into the medical centres car park, we received a telephone call informing us that the surgery had been cancelled due to the surgeon wanting further retinal scans.
We travelled this distance due to NHS waiting list lengths in our area.
However I now find myself with the predicament of transferring my care to a local private hospital (Spire) and the resultant cost to myself, or risk travelling to Gloucester again for treatment that may or may not happen.
I have already attended an initial assessment, at which I would've thought any necessary further scans would've been performed.
Having attended today, expecting to have cataract surgery, only to be contacted as I arrived there, to inform me that said surgery had been cancelled, leaves me with an uneasy feeling that this clinic may not be competent enough to perform surgery on my sight.
I am not impressed with the care delivered to me so far and this could well be the conclusion of my treatment by Newmedica.

My experience at New Medica Abingdon…

My experience at New Medica Abingdon was appalling and ultimately traumatic and I absolutely recommend that anyone seeking cataract surgery looks elsewhere. I had a disappointing experience of my customer journey, of the surgery itself and finally, of the clinical result of the eye operation. I felt pain during the cataract surgery. I also was left with worsened distance vision in the operated eye than I had before so I am unable to see for driving through that eye without glasses. I now am also left with permanent constant glare and halos around lights that laser treatment has not been able to treat. The treatment cost me £3,200. I have communicated my issues with the clinic but their response has been unsatisfactory and my health and confidence have suffered severely as a result of the procedure.

Brilliant Service

I have been attending the Bristol Aztec West Clinic for a number of months. The reception staff are really welcoming and in some cases quite funny. The Ophthalmic Surgeon Gemma is an abolute treasure. She treats her patients with utmost respect, explains in simple language about the treatment and possible results. In theatre, the whole team connected with me making the experience fairly natural. To the whole team - well done guys.

I attended Newmedica in Worcester for cataract surgery. At first I was very concerned about the location on an industrial estate, rather than a conventional hospital clinic. The reality is that the care and treatment is first class from all members of the team, and I am most grateful to Mr Ng, Jen, Hannah C, Lynn, Emilie and Vonnie. As an anxious old codger, I was treated with great respect. Highly recommended. Many thanks.
