Extremely Disorganised and Unprofessional Service

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Optilase and would not recommend them to anyone.

From the beginning, the communication and organisation were completely unacceptable. I was promised a procedure date over St. Patrick’s weekend, which was confirmed by reception. However, when I followed up, I was told this was “unheard of,” as if the arrangement had never been made. This immediately raised concerns about how disorganised the service is.

The issues continued with my post-operative care. I attended my scheduled follow-up appointment in Athlone, only to be left standing outside before being told there was no appointment on record. I was then instructed to travel to Galway, only to be told shortly after that the machines there were down. I ended up having to rearrange everything again and travel to Dublin instead.

Shockingly, this same situation happened again for my one-week post-op appointment. I was once again left waiting, only to be told minutes before my appointment that there was no optometrist available and that I would need to go to Galway. This level of disorganisation is completely unacceptable, especially for a medical service.

On top of this, the customer service was extremely poor. Staff were dismissive and unhelpful on the phone, and when I asked to speak to a manager, they refused to engage. Instructions before and after the procedure were unclear, adding further stress to an already frustrating experience.

Overall, I felt completely let down. For a service that deals with something as important as eye care, the lack of professionalism, organisation, and communication is very concerning.

I would strongly advise others to consider alternative providers.

Awful experience

I recently had laser eye surgery at Optilase Carrickmines and found the experience extremely distressing. During the procedure, I was spoken to in an aggressive and intimidating manner while in a vulnerable position by the surgeon. I expressed discomfort and pain, but this was not acknowledged. The overall tone and handling during surgery left me visibly distressed. Additionally a frightening interaction immediately afterwards, when I attempted to go to the bathroom, left me feeling further intimidated and without basic privacy at a time when I was already shaken.
Since the procedure, I have experienced ongoing issues with my vision, along with anxiety and sleep disturbance linked to the experience, which has impacted my ability to work.
I submitted a formal complaint but have not received a meaningful response within a reasonable timeframe.Patients should expect to be treated with dignity, respect, and professionalism throughout. Unfortunately, this was not my experience. I have also requested my data access information and this has not been provided to me. I am been completely stonewalled by this company. I am so disappointed.

One eye fixed - the other one not so much

My eyes were the wrong shape for near sight correction so I went for new lenses for long distance correction. The operation was flawless and I had perfect vision for 6 weeks. But then my left eye started to go blurry. I went back for about 5 visits where I was told the problem was “dry eye”. I have had dry eye all my life and it never affected me before (but it also didn’t affect me for the first 6 weeks after the operation). Then they started messing me around by giving me appointments on bank holidays and other days when they were shut. After a year I stopped hearing from them altogether (I guess my warranty was up). Anyway - my left eye is still blurry (no better - no worse) Not Happy!

20/15 vision & 10/10 care!

Everyone in the company is very friendly and easy to talk to, which helps put the mind at ease if you're feeling a bit anxious about the procedure. They are also very well trained and clearly experts in their field! You can tell immediately that customer service and satisfaction is highly important to the company from every interaction.

The amount of scans & checks they took on was amazing, because it means they were up to speed with the most data, which is especially important for something as important as eye surgery! I imagine that other Clinics wouldn't be as thorough!

Along the way, I had been informed of underlying conditions I didn't even know about like Dry Eyes, and how ahead of surgery my right eye lens prescription was fluctuating, and given the best advice on how to mitigate those problems / risks. They could have just told me nothing and carried on, getting paid doing so - but they didn't, leaving no stone unturned!

Being able to sign and return my consent documents Online was a huge benefit that I really appreciated as well as it just made everything less hassle.

My eyesight has now improved to better than what it was even when wearing glasses, which is incredible. Optilase are the full package, and everyone involved, at every step, is spectacular, and I was made to feel extremely comfortable (as well as you can be for undergoing surgery!)

DO NOT MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH OPTILASE.
I paid €9,000 for lens replacement surgery in 2025, and my experience has been extremely disappointing from start to finish.
The surgery itself was problematic. While my right eye was completed without issue, the procedure on my left eye had to be stopped twice due to pain, and the result has never been satisfactory. To this day I do not have proper focus in that eye.
What has been equally frustrating is the lack of proper follow-up care and organisation. The staff member who initially assessed me went on maternity leave shortly after my surgery and was not replaced, which meant I was not seen again for a full month after the procedure. After paying €9,000, the burden seemed to fall on me to chase appointments and follow-ups.
Since then I have had to travel repeatedly for appointments that have been changed, delayed, or poorly managed. Most recently, after travelling from home for a 10am appointment, I was informed enroute that the consultant would be 20 minutes late. What made this more frustrating was that the day before I had received a call asking if I could move my appointment to later in the day, which I explained was not possible. These appointments are made many weeks in advance, and as a working professional I organise my schedule carefully around them. I cannot simply rearrange my work and clients at short notice. Having already confirmed that I could not change the appointment, being told while travelling that the consultant would now be running late showed a complete disregard for a patient’s time. As a working professional with a full schedule, this level of disregard for a patient’s time is unacceptable.
At €9,000, I expected professional care, proper follow-up, and respect for my time. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience.
I would strongly advise anyone considering treatment to think very carefully before committing to this clinic.

Disappointing service, serious management issues.

I contacted Optilase as I wanted corrective laser eye surgery. A consultation appointment was scheduled for a Friday morning in Belfast and after I took a day off work on Annual Leave, I was called in the morning to say the surgeon had called in sick, understandable and I accepted that these things happen. Subsequent to this, I called over 6/7 times to reschedule the appointment with either no answer or no return call when I asked a basic suitability query all in the space of 2 weeks.

I got frustrated at this and went to Cathedral Eye Clinic. Within 3 weeks, i've had all my consultations and lasik surgery completed successfully. Having experienced how poor the Optilase service was before I even got a consultation, I dread to think how the post-operative care would work. I'm still furious at how this company wasted my time!

Life changing

Life-changing experience, I couldn’t recommend Optilase enough.
I had lens replacement implants at Optilase Carrickmines, Dublin, and the entire experience was exceptional. From the very start, the staff were incredibly supportive and reassuring. The in-depth consultation with the surgeon beforehand put me completely at ease and ensured I fully understood the procedure.

Although I was nervous, I felt comfortable and well cared for throughout. The procedure itself was completely painless, and the results have been amazing, my eyesight is now 100%. Truly life-changing, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Optilase to anyone considering vision correction.

Don't hesitate any longer... Do it !

The eye surgery is life changing, my only regret is that I didn't do it sooner !

I can't thank the Optilase staff enough for their profesionalism and their kindness. At the very first appointment all my questions and concerns were answered. I knew I was in good hands, and that was a huge stress relief.

The surgery went like a breeze, and for me it wasn't painful, just few minutes of discomfort. And the next day I started to see better !

It was a really good experience

It was a really good experience, a change that I was waiting for my whole life , I was literally blind with no glasses but after the surgery my vision is 20/20 , the stuff at optilase are nice and helpful big thanks for everyone
