A real concern about this company

A real concern about this company. We took our car there as no sound from speakers and was diagnosed as all the speakers being faulty, this was diagnosed with no testing other than playing with the fader in front of us on the stereo. I did question if it could be the head unit in the glovebox as this was a common issue online, he told me that he had 30 years experience in this and it’s definitely the speakers that have got wet and seized up, he pointed at 2 other vehicles of the same brand and said they have the same issue. Was qoated a rough price of £750 for replacement of front and rear speakers.

We left to consider and decided to get the head unit tested by a friend and discovered that the speakers were actually fine and it was the circuit board in the head unit in the glovebox that was faulty. This was replaced at a cost of £265 from a car company in Birmingham (sent via post).

I fitted the new head unit myself, it was an easy task. I realise that a lot of people wouldn’t feel comfortable doing it themselves but even if you have a company test and fit it will save you the mis-diagnosis from this company.

It genuinely worry’s me that I could have gone with this company and ended up with a huge bill for parts I didn’t need.

My truck was in dire need of elec fixing, warning lights on everywhere, no speedo or radio. (All due to a previous cowboy outfit who had ruined most of the wiring), When I got it back, all was fixed plus quite a few other problems were no more! Well pleased with this highly professional service.

We charge a £99 check out fee

We as a business contacted Plymouth car sound with a fault where our customers car standard radio system had a fault where it kept turning on and off, we had already stripped and checked all the basics, when we called we were instructed that “there wasn’t much they couldn’t fix”, the one thing that stood out and made me uneasy was he kept saying we charge a £99 check out fee, we delivered our customers car to them and again he stated we charge a £99 check out fee, this was starting to ring alarm bells to be honest but we had traveled a long way with a customers car as we were lead along that they should be a to fix it, we were also told that his tech doesn’t work on a Monday so please don’t expect a call till the end of the week, sure enough the phone rang on Monday saying we can’t fix it it needs to go to the dealer but you owe us £99, so the bottom line is if you have an electrical fault and don’t want to waste money don’t go to Plymouth car sound, I’m surprised he is still doing business if he charges every customer £99 to look at it as if I was to charge my customers £99 to look at their cars Im pretty sure I wouldn’t have any left.
It looks to me they were very good in their day when audio systems were plug and play now the industry has moved on they were unable to keep up with technology and are just money grabbing where they can in the end Andy agreed for me to pay £50 which I still wasted 3 hours delivering and picking up my customers car and spending £50 and I still couldn’t charge my customer any thing as the fault was still the same, me as a business couldn’t afford to do this to often as I would fold in no time.

I would honestly leave a minus score if…

I would honestly leave a minus score if I could after the nightmare of the last 3 months I have been through with Plymouth Car Sound.

I purchased High-Res audio equipment online and paid over £700 and intrusted Plymouth Car Sound to fit it, A mistake I would later regret!

Immediately after I picked up my car from pcs after the car audio fitting I had electrical problems which started with the loom from the steering wheel to the stereo, sometimes the volume and skip track controls wouldn’t work as they supposed too and other times the volume buttons would operate the dash computer trip distance and mpg details or just wouldn’t work at all.

I contacted Plymouth car sound who asked me to return the car to them so they could check it out as they never knew why the problems with the loom were happening especially as my previous factory fitted loom and car stereo worked with no faults at all, They had no idea why I was having these problems so they asked me to take the car back and drive it myself and make a log of all the faults and tell them what else was happening as they told me they were busy and never had the time to drive my car as the faults were intermittent, I took video logs of all the faults and have video evidence going back to September 2021.

To cut a long story short problems continued and got worse with the stereo controls on the steering wheel and then randomly not even working at all, then days later my clock cluster lights would start flickering and going out completely as if there was some sort of short with the wiring.

When I had my car prior to pcs touching it (which only had 65k miles on the clock) my car was pristine condition with no faults at all, I said to Andy the owner of Plymouth Car Sound that my car was problem free from the last mot up until I had them fit my new car stereo and I put it to him why would I spent over £2,000 on car audio paying Plymouth Car Sound over £700 just to fit the stereo system if my car had major electrical problems? You wouldn’t and I wouldn’t because my car was error free.

I agreed to pay Andy £360 to have my clock cluster sent off to be examined and repaired if needed after he diagnosed it as that being the fault but the company who supposedly looked at them sent them back to Andy at Plymouth Car sound telling Andy there was nothing to repair as they found no fault with my clocks and that they couldn’t repair what’s not broken, now

Later Andy from pcs told me I could buy another set of clocks send them off to this company (a company who’s name I still don’t even know their name as I never was given an invoice) Andy said this company charges £50 to test and examine the clocks for faults and charge another £130 to clone my clocks to the new clocks, Hmm so if the company who repair car clocks charge £50 to check and test if the clocks are faulty so then why did I pay £360.00? With no invoice stating what work has or had been done. I’m no legal expert but isn’t that fraud?!?

Andy got his mate to look at my car who also said it’s my clocks that are faulty but the company who repairs them said they are not faulty.

Meanwhile I the customer of pcs has spent over £1,000 on fitting and clock cluster repairs which were wrongly diagnosed but in the eyes of the company that fix them they are not faulty and didn’t need fixing and I have no invoice showing me what work had been carried out or obviously if they claimed they were not faulty what work could of possibly been done?

I was also told by Andy that my clock cluster repair had a lifetime warranty a warranty I cannot claim as the company who looked at my clocks said they cannot warranty a faultless product.

I now have my car back from pcs in no better condition than the day they returned it to me after they returned it to me after they fitted my car audio system and it’s cost me more money with no results at all just lots of stress and inconvenience for the last 3 months which stated in September and I got my car back today with the stereo system refitted but same electrical problems still exists.

Bottom line is if you go to Plymouth Car Sound and you have problems after having them do work on your car then expect to get treated badly the same way I have.

It’s not right that I’ve spent over £2,000 and got my car retuned to me in this state but I have video evidence I took myself of the faults going back to last September 2021 and I recorded my conversation with Andy who told me don’t worry I am insured and I will fix this but in the end he took my money and cut me loose, I will be going to trading standards and seeking legal advice as this is no way to treat customers.

I am going to trading standards and seek legal advice and get them to investigate just where my £360 has gone? When it only cost £50 to test clocks which mine was and returned because no fault was found! Nothing adds up and needs further investigation.

Plymouth Car Sound - Top Guys

The guys at PCS were fantastic, polite, efficient and knowledgeable. They completed the work of installing the alarm on my Ducato campervan quickly and gave good advice on a solution for my stereo too. I can’t recommend Andrew and his team highly enough.

DO NOT USE

The only place I’ve ever come across that’ll charge you a checkout fee and not actually check anything.

An initial charge of £99 to diagnose a fault which was not found, then an extra £60 to clean, which led to another cost of £50 which we were told required some soldering which there is no evidence of.

We were then told there was a fault with another unit, luckily we saw that the amp was not connected properly and showed the technician where it hadn’t been connected.

This cost £125

After all the agro.......they couldn’t even give a price to fix the problem.

Depending on who you speak to will depend on what story you are told, couldn’t even agree between them, whether they were expert enough, to repair digital equipment!! Laughable. Worth the money to watch to the comedy show anyway.

Came in with some low down sound and left with none.

And to top it off.....no test sheet or diagnostic record to even prove they’d done ANYTHING, no paperwork to show what they’d actually done, and absolutely no trust whatsoever to solve an issue from a “Competent” company. Appeared to be making it up as they went along.
Will be posting over google and trust pilot.

Still haven’t received an email as promised to give any indication of what was done.

I will be making sure my friends and family will avoid at all costs.
