Hi we bought a cover which arrived just before Christmas 2023 , our Motorhome was having some warranty work done, so we didn’t put the cover on ,
Got the cover out of the bag to put on the Motorhome this week and unfortunately we didn’t have the clips to secure the cover, we rang Protec where they refused to replace them even though we haven’t used the cover or had it out of the bag , saying it would cost £138.00 plus postage,
Considering this cover cost nearly £900.00 I feel very unhappy about the service we have received

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, and I’m genuinely sorry to hear you were left feeling disappointed with your experience.

Since joining the Specialised Canvas Group (not to be confused with Specialised Covers), we’ve made some necessary changes to how our products are built and maintained. One of those changes involved standardising all our fittings across the full product range to avoid cross-contamination in the factory. Unfortunately, this meant older or non-standard clip systems were discontinued.

The quote you received wasn’t just for a simple replacement clip, it was to fully update your cover’s fitting system to the current standard, making it future-proof, and also included the cost of a brand new set of straps and return delivery. That said, I completely appreciate that without the proper explanation, the quote would have come across as excessive, especially when the cover hadn’t yet been used.

I take full responsibility for not communicating this clearly enough at the time, and for that, I sincerely apologise. Your feedback has highlighted an area we need to improve on, and I’ll be using this experience as a learning opportunity to ensure we’re much clearer and more upfront in the future.

Thank you again for your comments, and I’m truly sorry we weren’t able to meet your expectations this time.

Poor service from the company

Poor service from the company . After double checking with sales person to get correct travel cover for Basecamp Caravan and ordering custom version with flag. The item arrived after I left for work and I work at sea. Once returning it was wrong cover ? Protec covers will not change cover as I had passed the 30 day mark . Poor product knowledge from sales person . who I phoned for correct cover to double check as Basecamps have no awning rail on the front !

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, and I’m sorry to hear you’ve been left disappointed with your experience.

After reviewing the order history, I can confirm that the Universal Towing Cover was ordered online on the 19th of March 2024 and delivered on the 16th of April. As you mentioned in your review, the issue wasn’t flagged until some time later, and unfortunately, this meant we were outside our 30-day resolution window, as outlined in our returns policy.

As this order was placed directly through our website, it is ultimately the customer’s responsibility to ensure the correct product is selected. We do offer a dedicated Towing Jacket specifically designed for the Basecamp at a different price point, with fittings which differ from the universal version you received.

I appreciate that this isn’t the outcome you were hoping for, and I’m genuinely sorry we weren’t able to resolve it more favourably. Your feedback will be shared with the team, and I’ll be using this experience as a reminder of the importance of clear and accurate communication on both sides.

What has happened to Protec?

I ordered a replacement cover for our 5 year old Coachman's cover at the NEC in October 2023. (The old cover was getting fragile and easily tearing as well as the fabric becoming hard.) The only difference between the existing cover and the new one was the requirement for a solar panel 'window'. I was able to locate the solar panel 'window' to the seams of the existing cover. Therefore very accurately. The dimensions were passed over with the order at the NEC.
Having heard nothing from Protec I contacted them in December to be told that they had lost the dimensions for the window! Presumably if I had not contacted them they would not have bothered to contact me.
Having subsequently provided the dimensions the cover was finally delivered in mid February.
Having fitted it there were four errors, the solar panel 'window' obscured half the panel, the flap for the door rolled up to the opposite side to that of the previous cover, to the hinge side, and the door could therefore not be secured using the magnetic catch.
The 'D' rings and the poles used to install and remove the cover were not compatible and some of the male/female snap hooks would not engage.
Clearly there had been some cost reductions with regard to the 'hardware', as well as other design features, and nobody had checked to see that they actually worked.
The cover was returned to Protec at the beginning of March after the exchange of innumerable emails explaining in detail the faults. I was assured that all relevant persons were aware of the issues and that they would be rectified.
The cover was returned shortly afterwards with the solar panel 'window' relocated, but with none of the other items rectified.
Weeks of email exchanges followed with all manner of excuses for not sorting out the problems.
Judging by the change of company location between buying the first cover and the second I believe that the company changed hands, not for the better.
The total reluctance to acknowledge the error of the door cover or to rectify it are due it would seem to the company changing hands yet again and relocating from Bradford to Chesterfield. (Which explains their lack of material.)
Whether the new owners will be any better than the last one remains to be seen, certainly the last owner, and the quality of the cover, were not a patch on the original.
Personally I will be VERY dubious about ordering another cover from this company.

Motorhome cover door opening incorect. Have been trying to reach this firm for last 2 weeks continuos answer machine . They have not had fabric for the last 6 months . Eventually got through today to be told we are moving factory and we can not accept a return for 4-6 weeks. Many excuses , shoddy work and bad customer service. The chap on the call hung up when he couldnt give me a valid reason why he could not collect. Will be contactng credit card company for a refund.

I am writing to extend my sincere apologies for the way your call was handled. I have been informed that the disconnection was unintentional and resulted from our server being removed for transport to our new facility in Chesterfield. Unfortunately, our office team was unaware this would take place, leading to the regrettable interruption in our service.

This incident does not reflect the standard of service we strive to provide, and I deeply regret the inconvenience and frustration you experienced.

Please be assured that we are committed to resolving your issue as soon as possible. We have tentatively scheduled a collection for July 15th, subject to fabric availability.

To provide some context, we were made aware of the fabric shortage in late March and decided on March 22nd to halt taking additional orders until we could offer accurate timelines for receiving covers. This is an unprecedented situation for us. When you informed us of the need for an adjustment to your cover in December 2023, our standard protocol was to arrange for the cover to be returned after the winter period, ensuring you could use it during the most critical time of the year.

We understand how frustrating it must have been to be informed, upon your spring follow-up, that we could not collect the cover due to the fabric shortage. We are truly sorry for this inconvenience and are working diligently to resolve the issue.

Very disappointed in the product…

Very disappointed in the product performance and after sales service. I purchased a full cover for my caravan Sept 2023 and covered my caravan for winter from then until April 2024. Uncovering my caravan revealed that water had been penetrating the roof material of the cover and was pooling on the roof for some time as it was quite green. After raising this with Protec and providing photographic evidence, I was asked to conduct a test by pouring a pint of water over the material stretched over a bucket. This I did in two areas of the roof and within 10 minutes the water had breeched the material. Having had a cover from them before which lasted 6 years, I can only conclude the material now being used by protec is now deficient. Having sent all the phograpic evidence once more along with a video showing the water pouring through the material in real time, they refused to provide a full refund as I had some 'usage' of the cover. This I found quite appalling as all evidence pointed towards the leak being there from the start. Beware of the standard of this product. It does not now do what is described. In fact it is my contention that it makes the situation worse for your caravan as it traps water on top of the roof. I see they are no longer taking new orders because of supply issues. I'm afraid it makes me very suspicious.

Absolutely shocking service .

Absolutely shocking service .. I am a returning customer and ordered a cover before Christmas only to be told 6 weeks later that it would not be ready .. so I asked for a refund and was told it would take 5-7 days to return my money .. I have called twice to find out where the refund is .. to date no refund. I am starting to suspect this company has financial difficulties hence the reason why no refund has been made and empty promises of calls back and money to be in the bank today .. great product but an extremely poor customer experience avoid if you have an issue your gonna have problems.

Outstanding service

Outstanding service. You are sent a very easy measuring sheet which makes sure the cover fits perfectly to your Motorhome enabling access to the habitation door. Me and hubby fitted ours in 10 mins first time. Comes with extending poles and ties that go underneath to make it very secure. We have friends who have had much cheaper covers but they tear so easily and the difference in quality is just unbelievable. Very satisfied indeed and the service from Protec themselves is first class.

After buying my 1969 VW T2 I needed to replace the missing straps for Protec cover. I bought the wrong size clips. After a conversation with Peter he recovered the original purchase from 2006. Next day delivery!!

Great customer service

Great customer service, the first time we put our cover on we broke one of the clips on a strap in the top of the pole, Protec sent a replacement strap with no quibbles and the cover fits perfectly. Would definitely recommend Protec

Autosleeper Bourton Motorhome Cover

We purchased a new cover for our Motorhome (Autosleeper Bourton) to replace a previous cover. From the first enquiry to receiving the cover, all contact with Protec was very good. The staff were polite and helpful and we were kept informed of the progress of our order. The cover is now fitted on the Motorhome and we are very pleased with the ease of fitting it and the quality of the material and workmanship. The extra touches like the pole holders and the velcro down the back panel is very good. Thank you Protec.

Great service, great workmanship and quality

We are so very pleased with our new full Protec caravan cover.

It arrived exactly when it was expected. 

The quality and workmanship is of a very high standard.

It fits like a dream and went on so easily, which is no mean feat as both my husband and I are under 5 5ft.

The window for the solar panel is in exactly the right position and the panel started working straight away.

From our initial order, protec kept us updated with its progress. We explained that we were going away and they agreed to keep hold of it until we were back before sending it out.

I can honestly say that we had a great service and we would definitely recommend the company to anyone thinking of purchasing a cover for their caravan or motorhome.

Cover for an Eriba Puck

Having recently moved our Eriba Puck from under-cover to the open we were anxious to get it covered before we left for an extended trip (without the caravan) and with winter coming on. We ordered a tailor-made cover at the Caravan Show at the NEC on Wednesday 18th October and explained that we needed it urgently and the cover arrived yesterday! We immediately put it on the caravan and it is a perfect fit. We've had Protec covers in the past and it is now much easier to put over the caravan. All the information the company needed was the make, model and age of our caravan - we didn't have to give them any measurements. As our caravan is now a bit of a rarity we were very impressed. We are very happy to recommend Protec - and the delivery company they used were excellent too!

Really pleased with our motorhome…

Really pleased with our motorhome cover. Quality and the fit is excellent. I would like to say a big thank you to Peter who helped me out very quickly by replacing a strap I had broken the buckle on. I received a replacement within a couple of days at no extra cost. I would highly recommend this company.

Excellent customer service.

I’ve had my protec cover for 6 months now. I’m really impressed with the quality and workmanship of it, and it fits my caravan perfectly. I’ve had to call customer services because I hadn’t fitted my A frame strap properly, so I needed a replacement. It arrived on the doorstep with in a couple of days, excellent customer service.

I rang Protec to ask about repairing my caravan cover which we had ripped . They gave me advice on how to mend it ,what adhesive to use and sent me some fabric to use to patch it with . I received the spare fabric the next morning after phoning them …..what excellent customer service yet again from this company

Continuing high quality service

Within a fortnight of ordering from Protec, my new caravan was snugly protected by an accurately fitted and tightly secured cover with openings in all the right places.
When, later, I had a solar panel fitted, Protec very rapidly modified the cover to include a clear section in exactly the right position to allow my battery to remain topped up all year round.
Recently I carelessly broke a buckle on the strap securing my towing cover to the A-frame. Using their customer records Protec had an appropriate replacement strap in the post the same day I rang to ask for help.
To sum up my experience with Protec:- high quality products; excellent service; dedicated friendly staff; no waiting.
