Have never applied or had correspondence with Rebate Gateway.
I received an email on an email address that is only used for spam content from a company called DebtCo that said I owed Rebate Gateway and could set up a payment scheme. My real name was not used in the email. I ignored it, assuming it was spam. I received a further "polite reminder" and emailed back. I pointed out that I had never communicated with Rebate Gateway and could I have proof of a formal contract for debt held under my name (my real name) and Notice of Assignment.
DebtCo sent me back a supposed "application" with some very outdated information, no date, not my real name, no name of the company until the terms and conditions, and an electronic signature that isn't mine; and an invoice from HMRC that says I've been paid a rebate and how much they want from me.
I responded to say that the terms and conditions state they would not receive ongoing rebates, which linguistically means they would only accept for the year of application.

DebtCo rudely told me "You have a rebate, which means there is a fee. Hence the charges." and then threatened me with a bailiff company.

I responded to say that I had never received communication from RG, and couldn't validate their claim without a dated contract and provision of services. I had got a refund, directly from HMRC, but RG had nothing to do with it. They responded with a copy of an email where RG says they're sending it to bailiffs and DebtCo "advised" me of what that company did.

I still haven't received the contract I asked to see, proof of a date of application or an explanation of services. Plus, they don't have my information so I'm not sure where they even got them from.

I'll be sending them a complaint and requesting full proof.

These absolute crooks should be avoided at all costs.

Read all the negative reviews and see that several people are talking about legal action against them for their fraudulent and misleading practices

The good reviews do not seem to hold much information and are posted in short batches in quick succession so I do not believe they are genuine when there are so many people who have had really negative experiences.

The person is charge is rude and obnoxious and if it was a genuine company it would not feel the need to try and hide behind two veils of incorporation with limited companies when they are both owned by the same person.

Few years ago I signed up for tax refund. Never received a penny.
This year I decided to complete self assessment and received the refund in January. In April I have received an email from debt collectors that I own gateway £600! I challenged it, requested for proof that they have provided me with service and they ignored it and replied very abruptly and passed my case to bailiffs. I am on maternity leave, with extremely low income and have to pay for service that I never received or authorised them to complete an assessment for 2025!

I would give this company a wide birth and stay well clear they use your marriage allowance to raise the rebate for you and to pocket the commission that they have not earned themselves. And further down the line HMRC chase you up for the difference in unpaid tax a total farce. Disgusting company and I honestly don't believe hmrc allow them to work on there behalf shame I can't give a - *

What a terrible company!

Been waiting months for my money to come through £181 owed from HMRC. After they had taken their fee I was left with £54 and the odd pence.

Emailed a lot of times with hardly no response, only had about 3/4 responses from them. Rest were just ignored.

Can’t even ring to speak to someone it’s automated line for any option you press.

I’m sure if i owed them money it wouldn’t have gone the way my experience did. They would have been straight on at me!

HMRC even said these sort of companies are not really great and it’s better to do tax rebates yourself by phoning HMRC up.

I will never go with these ever again, really thought they were a really good company as they had a real website, email addresses and contact numbers. Wish I read the reviews on here first!

I got an letter message this morning asking me if I am married. As soon as, I did the quick free check I was asked to do, I got a message that my details are already taken, I will hear from them. I thank Mr Martin Lewis for sending me to do a marriage Taxrefund check. Thank you very much Sir.

Got a letter from them through the post to check if i could claim. turns out i can and have got a rebate for marriage allowance. would recommend checking it costs nothing but 5 minutes.

Rebate received of £1200 for a marriage allowance claim i didn't even know existed to be able to make a claim. really great thank you.

awful company i didn’t hear from them in a few years hopefully they have now taken me off their books i took them off hmrc and they said would not hear from them again but then i all of sudden owe them money from tax rebate that they did not deal with its disgusting

I recently received my pension rebate through Gorilla Tax Rebate. From start to finish, the process was smooth, professional and completely hassle free.

If I could give zero I would. I’m owed money that they say is ready to give. Gave my bank details numerous times, emailed more times than I dare to imagine, I’ve received nothing, not even an email. I’m now starting legal proceedings against the company, using all my previous emails as evidence for a very strong case!! Awful company, awful customer service. Shocking!

I'm always a little dubious about these kind of things but I have to say the entire process was very refreshing. I have received my rebate and will be letting other friends to know to check of they can claim.

I was sceptical that i was due anything but I thought id go for it and within a month I have received over £1000. Im really grateful

I had no idea that I was due a rebate and everything was handled with minimum effort by me. It's a shame that HMRC need to be contacted to get the money they have overtaxed you and given I've been on PAYE all my working life I'm sure there will be many other people that are owed money. Funny how HMRC are quick to take your money but not so efficient at making sure you're not overpaying.

The online rebate form is amazing, straight forward and easy to understand.

Do Not use this Company they are a Fraud

I never signed up to Rebate Gateway. I received a letter from them stating I was owed a Tax Refund.

I never responded to the letter and actually threw it away stupidly. A few months later they sent a fee to DCBL debt collection company who are now chasing this fee.

You can not speak with anyone at Rebate Gateway they have made it on purpose when you call the number to only speak with an automated system.

I have been in email contact with the company who are extremely rude and only respond that they will comment no further.

I have asked them to remove my data from their systems under the GDPR Right to Erase Act. Once again they have refused this.

Please Avoid this company they are Fraudulent

They didn't contact me for months. I then claimed for myself and because they have access to your tax account, they then send a bill for something they haven't done themselves. Their Gents have a threatening and demanding demeanour. The name of the agent on my tax account was not rebate gateway, so they have actually broken the law. I reported this via fraud action. Funnily enough they have now stopped chasing me for money they weren't even owed along with Debt Co whom they also use to chase you. Trust me when I say do not use this firm.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. They are a scam and do not give you your money I’m unsure how they are still running if you use this company you will not have your tax returned to you

Warning! Don’t use this company, they are nothing to do with HMRC. I stupidly thought they were but the way they contact you is very misleading. They take a big fee from your rebate that you would be due anyway (just contact HMRC direct). They are also awful to deal with, really nasty. No idea how what they’re doing is legal.
