Support could be better. However, after being quite insistent, I finally managed to get my application processed. I'm very happy with it, but I do have to point out the somewhat poor support offered by the agency.
I had to submit three times the same documents to get verified. I also had to consistently insist to get my application moved forward and my emails read.
I did have an overall positive experience, but you must be insistent.
Trying to sign a lease with them but…
Trying to sign a lease with them but they continuously ignore my emails.
Then they had the nerve to send me a survey asking why I decided not to go through with the lease. This is absolutely ridiculous. I have sent several emails asking them to send me a credit and background check after they sent me one for the WRONG location.
Their customer service is awful as they purposely ignore you. I am genuinely upset.
The worst rental company anyone could come across
The worst rental company anyone could come across! I've had so many issues with them since I moved in last summer, I don't even know where to start. From pictures that don't represent the actual house, to filthy common spaces, rodent infestation which is left to deal with by yourself, to finally them dropping their service of utility management by making it the responsibility of the tenants. This can be a major issue in a housing situation where tenants have limited say in who the roommates will be (you get 2 rejections before SplitSpot assigns a roommate, no matter if you are comfortable with them or not). Also, SplitSpot charges endless monthly fees, apparently to cover their services such as the utility management, which however are becoming more and more limited. Their phone line never works, and e-mailing them feels like having a conversation with a brick wall. SplitSpot is such a handoff company, run by borderline scammers and the well-being, safety and comfort of their tenants is DEFINITELY not their priority!!!!!!
So disappointed - Please Read (this could be your experience)
I hate leaving negative reviews (I get that things happen and people make mistakes, plus who has the time), but please read my review as this could be your experience as well.
Here's what I have experienced so far:
- I was moving/driving +1,000 miles to move into my new apartment with a Sunday move-in date. I reached out to Support the Friday leading up to the weekend and told them I needed my Access Code for the building AND my apartment in advance because I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to get into my building if they didn't send the codes in time. I was starting a new job the following Monday, had a U-Haul rented, and paid movers to help with my move-in so timing was crucial. SplitSpot states that they will send you the Access Codes the night before your scheduled move-in. However, I asked for an exception explaining my concerns about move-in delays and related expenses if I didn't receive the Access Codes on time. They just reiterated that it would be sent the night before and wouldn't accommodate my request. After a few emails back-and-forth in an attempt to get the codes, I gave up and trusted that they would honor the agreement of sending them the night before. Not surprisingly they never sent my Access Codes the night before (checked both my emails thoroughly, including Spam and Junk folders), or the day of, and I wasn't able to move-in until SplitSpot Support finally got back to me the following week. Consider the costs you could incur because you'll have to pay late fees if you're using a U-Haul, lodging until SplitSpot sends you the codes, and if you scheduled movers, they will charge you for the original move-in job plus the secondary job when you inevitably need to reschedule. The real kicker is that I was also charged an "Early Move-In" fee of $25.00 by SplitSpot, which I'm still trying to get explained to me.
- My apartment was filthy when I finally got into the building the following week and I had to spend time and money deep cleaning the room. FYI - SplitSpot also charges you a $100.00 "Turnover Fee" when your lease ends and it's unclear what that covers. FYI - my 3rd roommate moved out a few weeks ago, and no one has come to clean that room yet, or notified us of any plans/intentions to do so in the near future.
- My lease stated that my first month of utilities were FREE, but again, I was charged for the first month of utilities and I have sent/made multiple emails and calls to Support in order to resolve these charges. Again, no responses. You're essentially bullied into paying these fees for fear of being charged additional penalties for unpaid amounts owed to SplitSpot.
- Lastly, my landlord recently dropped SplitSpot and will no longer be using their services. If landlords are dropping SplitSpot as a service provider, that should be a red flag and tells you something is wrong with their level of service.
Overall, I was excited to use SplitSpot, at first, because it seemed so seamless, but this experience has been a nightmare. I would hate to see others incur the same financial and time burden. If you can, I highly encourage that you join one, or a few, of the many Boston Facebook groups for housing where you can find an inexpensive place quickly, and avoid dealing with a middleman like SplitSpot. For your own good, do not use SplitSpot.

What a nightmare!!!! I didn’t get my deposit back after moved out on end of January.
Don’t even bother renting a place with them. Pretty much you have no one to talk to because their phone line never works and you can’t even leave a message.
Most of all don’t even think you are going to get your deposit back!!!!!
Called multiple time and send many e-mails ....
Nobody bother to call me back or reply back to me.
It’s been 2month ever since i moved out, where is my money!!!!!
There's a reason why splitspot is under 3 stars. Don't learn it the hard way.
I've been with them for more than a year. They were fine before, but honestly, as of late, 90% of my headaches come from them.
Terrible at getting back to you. Terrible at efficiently fixing problems. Their voice machine is broken. They won't fulfil their obligations with utilities - literally they forgot to pay for the wifi. Everyday I pray I don't get a Split Spot related problem. Don't be surprised if problems come up on their end and you have to deal with it. Some customer service reps are okay, but be careful if you talk more or ask too much about your problems because they have no qualms blocking you. Unprofessional in my opinon.

Making mistakes on our bills IS UNACCEPTABLE.
Constantly changing third party’s where tenants are suppose to pay their utilities is the reason behind splitspot charging its tenants “overdue payments” for utilities. Due to there incompetence.
It sucks because I really liked this place and what it had to offer in terms of a setting.

I pay on time or early. I was without heat for 17 days and had to call an inspector. It was some what fixed then went out again after they took back their 4 space heaters. Now, there are people entering the property and I can not get a hold of the property manager to verify these people. The apartment keycode was not changed. The communication is really bad and stressful. I am supposed to split the bills 4 ways but because they had not rented the other units they want me to pay everything. The furnace when it was broke just ran and ran with no heat. It left a very high bill which they wanted me to pay. I have not found a tenant lawyer for help. This has been a nightmare.

Satisfied with the Service
I have been living in the Splitspot places for over two years. Though there had been some problems throughout this time, I am mostly satisfied with their service. I could reach Splitspot people through email, and usually the problems that I faced got solved soon.

New Microwave
I have been asking for a microwave since I monitor my room on December 1, 2022. I cannot blame Splitspot AT ALL, because they were in constant contact with me and provided me with updates even when there was nothing to update. I just wish that my landlord was as on top of things as Split Spot and it's team. My only complaint is that I wish my roommates were cleaner, but I guess that's what Chlorox wipes are for. If it wasn't for the SplitSpot teams diligence I would probably still be without a microwave. Thank you for all your help.

Overall experience
Overall, I think Splitspot works well if you are persistent with issues. However, the initial quality of the service is not the best. When I first arrived to my apartment, a lot of appliances were broken and some electricity outlets not working. The cleaning service that they offer is very poor as well. I don't really feel a difference when the cleaning crew comes prior to a new roommate move-in. But, as mentioned, they finally solve problems after being patient and persistent.

Great roommate matching
They have a really good process for finding roommates for someone new to the city - the people i'm living with are great. The quality of the apartment is ok - but not really something splitspot handles. Landlord is responsive tho

Inhumane living situations
FILTHY apartment. The house I live in has NEVER been deep cleaned, there are even hair from previous tenants stuck to the walls. CRAZY expensive for what it is. Damages are not taken care of (they send YouTube videos instead of professionals) and we also have a massive rodent problem - they said they would send an exterminator, guess what, somebody came and put up ONE (!) additional trap… no serious solution to the problem! The company does not care at all that people are living in inhumane housing situations. I am considering taking legal actions against SplitSpot mainly because of the health concerns that come with the housing. Please spread the word that people should avoid SplitSpot as much as possible!
