Remote job, but apparently I need to finance the office 😅
The recruitment process requires candidates to complete a lengthy test that takes almost an hour. After investing that time, I was then informed that my computer does not meet one of their hardware requirements because of the processor generation.
My computer is fully functional, properly licensed, and otherwise suitable for professional work. I was then asked whether I would be willing to upgrade or purchase a new computer before even receiving an offer or knowing the salary or employment terms.
I understand companies having technical requirements, but expecting a candidate to personally purchase equipment required to perform the company's work is unreasonable and unprofessional. Remote work means working from home, not transferring the company's equipment costs to the employee.
If specific equipment is required to do the job, the company should provide it or offer an equipment allowance.
Advice to management: Consider providing the tools required to perform the job rather than asking candidates to purchase them before they've even been hired. 😅
