The whole thing smells of fish
High pressure sales technique used on my 88 year old mother.
I think they wet the insulation before testing to give it a high reading. They had cold called beforehand and she was lucky as the government were about to add VAT to the process. And even luckier was the fact that there was a team who could do it the following day due to cancellations.
I got my mum to cancel- who would spend £4,800 without a second opinion?
My parents were scare mongered into agreeing to have the spray foam in their loft removed immediately!
My parents were scare mongered into agreeing to have the spray foam insulation removed - immediately. Shown head line news on 'not being able to sell the house' 'wood rotting due to damp'. Dennis insisted his company did not 'cold call' but when I spoke to my Dad to find out how he got in touch with them, he said they phoned him, first time he put the phone down but they phoned back and 'Dennis' was very persuasive. Fortunately my sister and I smelled a rat and halted the process. Dennis even included in the quote ' to remove all my parents personal belongings from the loft and putting them back after removal of the spay foam'. I asked my mum and dad how much was in the loft - they said absolutely nothing! They had got the loft cleared out a couple of years ago and stored it elsewhere in the house as they cannot access the loft themselves anymore. We have since had someone else have a look at the spray foam insulation - they said it was not fitted correctly, but there is no immediate cause for concern as there is no damp and we should just monitor it after each winter. Panic over, disgusting company pressure tactics failed - until the next vulnerable pensioners are contacted and convinced they need to part company with £4000!
High pressure sales techniques used
These people pray on vulnerable people. They cold call and push their way into your home. My advice is to contact your own independent surveyor if you're concerned about your spray loft insulation. By all means contact these people if that surveyor says it would be better if it was removed, but don't take their word for it.
2 days on
We managed to cancel my parents order. I wouldn't say you are scammed ... However, I would say they use high pressure sales techniques and don't take account of vulnerabilities.

Con! Scam! Praying on vulnerable people
My father got a cold call out the blue from Thermotec stating the spray insulation in the attic was toxic and going to cause problems and would they like a free surveyor to come and check! A surveyor came the next day and took humidifier reading which he says was very high, rotting the beams and causing my mums health conditions! They pressured him into work that needed doing £9600 and they would come 2 days later to carry out the work!! My partner went up in the attic which was absolutely fine! No damp not rotting beams and in no need of any work to take place! So we checked out the company/reviews and realised they are a SCAM doing unnecessary work and scaring elderly vunrerable people! They include newspaper articles of scaremongering stories and because my dad was not able to see up in the attic they showed him pictures which were clearly not of my parents loft..
They were very rude and dismissive on the phone when trying to cancel! I just hope they don’t try and attend to carry out work
Be very very very aware …..SHAME ON YOU
Be very very very aware …..employ your own surveyor who will be professional and experienced, giving you correct proper advice. These people are jumping on the band wagon to scam the vulnerable. When we asked questions and then questioned the answers… the salesman ( though denying the fact, that is what he was) didn’t even look at our loft, take humidity readings or conduct any survey. He just wanted us to pay for removal. Disgusting, to scare and prey on vulnerable pensioners. SHAME ON YOU.
We had Thermotech in to remove the foam…
We had Thermotech in to remove the foam insulation a couple of months ago we were so impressed with the work carried out that we had them back today to discuss options regarding a new loft conversion,Once again they were very professional and we now feel confident moving forward with the project Thanks guys Zoe
Scammers
I would give this zero stars if I could. My mother in law was nearly scammed! She signed paperwork was told iif she did it in the next few days it would cost £5000 if she didn't it would cost £8000.
They said her spray foam needed to be removed and new one put in. Convinced her about not being able to sell etc. She didn't hand over any money. I was on the phone talking to him at the time as I wasn't happy and he did get very angry at me questioning him. Soon as I could we went round to her place and found the details of the people who did it originally and rung them to ve told it was a scam.
Please be aware they seem to be targeting elderly and vulnerable people.
We have his name as Ray Bedford. Very friendly to my mother in law but I think he knew I was not trusting him.
Do not trust
Contradictory information leads me to not trust this company.
This company called me today offering the services of a surveyor to check the spray-foam insulation in my loft. The call would take 20 minutes. I would be left with a "waiver document" which stated that the foam was the "right sort" and had been correctly installed. This I could show to anyone who needed to see it and that it was "just a peace of mind thing". The caller stated that both my wife and myself needed to be present (red flag 1) as we are joint owners of the property. If this is just a survey, it should not need both of us here. I stated that my wife had a pre-existing appointment and that she could not be present at the time offered. The caller kept repeating that she would tell the booking agent that we would both be present, in spite of me repeating several times that my wife would not be and even asking for an explanation as to why she "needed to be present", including asking if her signature would be required on anything. I was told that no signatures would be required but that she needed to be there (red flag 2).
I agreed to have a bookings agent call me shortly and that I could explain to him that my wife wouldn't be there etc. When the call did come in after about 5 minutes, the same line of "your wife needs to be present" was trotted out. When I pressed the caller for a reason, they stated that it was because she is a joint owner of the property. Again I pressed as to why she needed to be present for a survey and asked if she needed to sign anything for the "waiver".
"We don't give any sort of waiver. We do the survey and give you a quote should anything need doing." (Red flag 3 and the biggest of all)
This direct contradiction as to the first callers statement persuaded me that this was intended as a way around the cold caller regulations and I believe that this would have lead to a negative report and a quote, perhaps with some form of time-limited heavy discount, to get the work done.
The contradictory offer of a "waiver" by the initial caller and the statement by the second that no such "waiver" would be offered says to me that this company cannot be trusted and to me wanting to warn others about their practices.
Scare Mongering and Extortion
AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS -
A bloke came round to do a survey and quote for insulation removal for my grandfather.
He shared incorrect information about the insulation itself and quoted £10,000 for 3 days worth of work that must start IMMEDIATELY. Using an easily skewed damp reader to produce favourable results amongst other shameful techniques.
Please think carefully about sales people targeting you for work that must be done IMMEDIATELY. (if your insulation hasn’t caused an immediate problem in the last 8 years, then getting the job done out of false urgency is not necessary).
Do not trust this company
A few weeks ago, I was phoned by Thermotech offering a free survey of my foam spray loft insulation, to check the air quality in the property and the humidity in the rafters in the loft, as the government has concerns about spray foam. I asked quite a few questions to check this wasn’t a scam and they seemed trustworthy. They assured me that they were not trying to sell me anything, they’d only complete the survey.
I asked the call handler how he knew I had spray foam installed and he stated that there is a national register. I have no idea if this is correct.
As I actually did have concerns about the spray foam I agreed for Thermotech to send a surveyor the following day. This person checked the air quality in the lounge and told me that it is bad. He then said that if I didn’t have the foam removed, there were lots of health risks and that at present the value of my property had been reduced to zero. There was no need to check the loft as well. He added he could give me a quote to have the foam removed. I argued that I was told I wouldn't be given a quote, to which he said that if I wasn’t interested in his company removing the foam, he could as well leave. I insisted he'd to check the loft as well, which he then did, although reluctantly.
He then asked me again if I wanted to get the foam removed. He showed me a laminated piece of paper stating there is a £5,000 government grant, and I wouldn’t have to pay VAT. Based on the seize of my loft, without the grant and the VAT reduction the cost would be £12,000, but with those I’d pay £4,500. This offer would only be valid if I had the work done within a few days because the government funding allocated to them had almost been used up and they had almost finished working in my area. I checked later on whether this government grant is genuine - I couldn't find any information on the government website.
I told the surveyor again that the person who called me the previous day had stated explicitly I wasn’t going to be given quotes, to which he said they were probably students, just reading from a script, and not allowed to mention that I’d be given a quote. The young man who phoned me was definitely not reading from a script, we had a normal conversation.
The surveyor continued repeating that my house now has zero value, it is unsaleable and there are various serious health risks if I left the foam in. In the end I decided to go ahead, and we agreed they'd come to do the work a few days later. I was asked to sign a form, stating that free cancellation was not possible.
Retrospectively, I was not at all happy about it all (I haven't even mentioned all details here), so I wrote an online message on the Thermotech site, stating I wanted to cancel. The next morning they phoned me around 9 am and I stated firmly I wasn’t going ahead, for the reasons mentioned above and because I found the surveyor quite rude. To their credit, they agreed to cancel the appointment immediately, and they said they appreciated my feedback. That was the only positive part of the experience.
07-11-2024 - Thermotech asked me via Trustpilot to provide additional detail. 1) The salesman continued saying that he was not putting me under pressure, he only gave me information and if I decided to go ahead, it was my choice. To an extent this was correct, in the sense that he did not directly ask me to sign up on the spot. But the tactic (not only used by Thermotech by the way) of saying that if you don't sign up now but later, you'll be paying a lot more, and that they can only do the work within the next few days, as they're working in the area now, is a form of pressurising people. 2) He stated that they had forty teams working in the area, that's how busy they were. This may have been true, it may equally have been made up. Are there really that many people who put foam spray in in one city and now regret it?
3) The salesman stated that it didn't matter to him if I signed up or not, he was going to be paid anyway and was going to retire soon. In my opinion, this is rather rude and not at all relevant.
4) The salesman let me listen to a radio 'interview' with someone who had foam spray put in and who was very pleased to have discovered the risks and have it removed. The date of the interview, on his laptop, was something like 01-07-03-2024 - not an actual date. So, reason to suspect that the interview was not genuine.
5) I checked the information given to me by Thermotech with a local estate agent and they confirmed that some mortgage providers prefer to have foam spray removed, but according to them it's not as black and white as the Thermotech salesman wanted me to believe.
6) I phoned the company that put the foam spray in. They said that they use open foam spray, which is much safer, and ALSO, that Thermotech somehow stole their customers' details. Quite shocking, if this indeed correct.

poor work practices
I regret ever having anything to do with this company. They weren't highly trained technicians, The lack of protective equipment and crawl boards. The foam they couldn't be bothered to pick up , though much was taken away, they covered with a layer of insulation material. They missed putting in place insulation to the required depth until told and had to be brought back twice to complete job. Despite being asked twice to come and see the job the management didn't have the guts to come and view. I wouldn't recommend this company even to someone I didn't like.
I am 84 years young
I am 84 years young. At that stage in life where I have to plan for all of life’s eventualities. Do not want to leave any issues to family members. I had Spray Foam installed in my property 7 years ago. I have reaped the savings I expected to make since the installation was carried out. Happy from that standpoint. I placed my property on the market several months ago. To my surprise when the surveyor appointed by the purchasers bank attended the property to conduct the structural survey report that’s where all the issues started. To a cut a long story short I was then advised of all the issues homeowners are currently having when looking to release equity, sell the property, raise finance of any description. Coupled with all the adverse media publicity which I was not aware of & banks in general being very hesitant on properties with Spray foam not to mention the general publics perception of spray foam being negative to say the least I decided to call in Thermotech Surveyors who were recommended by a friend who had encountered similar problems with their property. Booked the assessment last week. Surveyor arrived on time carried out the checks. Having discussed with the surveyor my options & had all my questions answered I decided to go ahead & have the spray foam removed. Might add thanks to the surveyor Richard for being so patient. Removal went ahead as planned. Roof space left tidy on completion. Thanks to all concerned at Thermotech Surveyors Ltd.
Unkept promises
John came to see us on 7 August. He led us to believe he was an independent surveyor assessing the work originally done to install foam insulation in our loft. He was full of information and extremely plausible explaihe could arrange for the removal of the foam to be carried out the next day for £4000. We agreed and I signed a contract like the trusting old lady I am. John omitted to leave a copy of this contract and is,six days later, uncontactable by phone. The company, Thermotech, arrived the following day and the work was carried out but we are left with no written details of what has been done, no before and after photos, and none of the promised follow up help that John persuaded us with. Unfortunately we have no relatives or help to guide us in this and are left with a very nasty taste. Trading Standards perhaps our next move?....
WARNING
WARNING! - Having read the Trust Pilot entries as on or before this date, the obvious conclusion from even the 5-star responses is that they are based on personal contacts and cosmetics but do not cover the actual work – how many people actually inspect or are qualified to inspect the work undertaken or materials used.
I used Thermotech Wall & Loft Surveys to remove spray foam from the underside of my roof after understanding that type of installation would cause problems for anyone wanting a mortgage on my property in the future. The process involved removal of the foam and installing conventional fibre as a replacement.
I subsequently discovered that –
i) The foam towards the bottom of the eaves was in fact not removed.
ii) The old fibre, in place before the spray foam installed, was not removed and was therefore covered by the new fibre – I am informed by a subsequent surveyor that new fibre should not be put on top of old fibre especially since the old fibre contained some damp.
iii) The new fibre on the more remote side of the loft and less likely to be inspected was installed to an inadequate depth.
My experiences confirmed by an alternative surveyor would suggest that Thermotech should be avoided at all cost.
I have been asked by Trustpilot to provide more information on my comments above, unfortunately I cannot find how to do this other that providing this edit process to my original entry.
I thought my original comments were precise enough but I will say that I had a follow up survey to the work done and had to pay £3000 extra to have the original work corrected. I emailed Thermotech with my observations and never received a response, hence the need to post my original comments.
If pushed I will say that the despite the workmen (eastern european, I think) being polite they came from Norfolk area (we are in South Wales) arrived in a private car (no bespoke vehicles with company livery) and used no protective clothing or equipment and bought the insulation from a local B&Q. The company I eventually used showed me the situation in my loft and supplied photographs. Thermotech had the opportunity to answer my email so if Trustpilot choose to remove my observations they will defeat the objective that I supposed theywere intended to achieve. I stand by all my comments.
