Over 230 Applications and only 4 Interviews with ZERO job offer

Upmatch advertises a “guaranteed outcome or full refund.” That’s what convinced me to sign up.

Here’s the reality:
• Paid £500 for the service
• Spent an additional $522 on Connects on Upwork after repeated instructions from their team to keep adding connects to continue bidding
• 230+ applications sent
• 0 offers

Yes, the £500 was refunded. The $522? Completely dismissed.

What stood out:
• The “guarantee” is not as clear as it sounds; only applies to their fee, not the required spend to execute their process
• You are repeatedly pushed to spend more on Connects to keep their system running
• Expectations shift during the process (more bids, more spend, different targets)
• The actual service is high-volume job applications with no meaningful differentiation or results

My takeaway:

This is essentially a volume-based application approach that requires continuous spending but doesn’t improve outcomes.

Without this service, I may or may not have landed a role, but I would definitely be $522 better off.

Final warning:

If you’re considering this, understand the real cost isn’t just the service fee; it’s the ongoing spend required to keep the process going.

And based on my experience, that spend does not guarantee results.

Given that the founder has taken his time to respond to my review with a lot of lies is quite telling. I am updating my review to respond to all his points.

Hi Ali,

Thanks for your response. I’ll address each of your points for accuracy:



1. On the “custom reduced package”
This is not accurate. I did not request a custom package. I was initially hesitant to sign, and the only reason I agreed to proceed was after Jon offered a 100% refund if the expected outcome of at least 3 to 5 jobs was not achieved. That assurance was a key factor in my decision to join.

2. On the refund being a “gesture of goodwill”
This is also not accurate. The refund was issued after I referenced the prior agreement and provided evidence of the refund assurance shared by your team. It was not presented as discretionary at the time, but as a resolution based on that prior commitment.

3. On response times and “multiple leads”
My response times were not significantly delayed. In most cases, I responded within minutes, with the longest delay being 3 hours due to gathering requested information. I have records and screenshots to support this.

More importantly, across 230+ applications, the outcome was 0 offers and very few replies which speaks to the effectiveness of the process.

4. On being “uncooperative or disrespectful”
I do not agree with this characterization. My communication throughout was consistent and professional, and I have written records and screenshots of all interactions.

5. On submitting 230 applications “as requested”
I did not request a specific number of applications. The volume of applications was driven by your team’s process.

Throughout the engagement, I was repeatedly asked to add Connects to continue bidding, which resulted in $522 of additional spend before I decided to stop at the end of the one month contract period due to lack of results.

6. On suggested improvements (Loom video and cover letter)
I did record and provide a Loom video. I was later informed it would not be used, and was asked if I was comfortable proceeding without it, to which I agreed based on your team’s recommendation.

For the cover letter, I was the one who suggested tweaking it after the team had sent hundreds of applications with no results. Again, the Upmatch team wrote a different cover letter and shared with me for review which I said was okay to proceed. I didn’t write any of the cover letters they worked with.

7. On onboarding delays
There were no material delays on my end that impacted execution. I completed requirements as requested.

8. On Connects not being “pushed”
While I understand your position, in practice the process required continuous Connects to function. Repeated requests to top up were made so bidding could continue, making this an essential part of executing your service.

9. On requesting a refund in exchange for a review
This is not accurate. I requested a fair resolution based on the total cost incurred while following your team’s process after the expected outcome was not achieved.

Final clarification

This comes down to outcome vs total cost:
• £500 service fee (refunded)
• $522 additional spend required to execute the process
• 230+ applications
• 0 offers

That is the full context of my experience.

I’ve shared this so others can make a fully informed decision.

Hi Chinelo, I want to clarify a few key points for accuracy, as your review contains several inaccuracies.

When joining UpMatch, you requested a custom, reduced package, which you negotiated extensively with our team prior to signing. We agreed to this as a one-off arrangement, and the signed agreement clearly outlines the terms, with no refund tied to results.

Despite this, I chose to refund your £500 in full as a gesture of goodwill, purely because the working relationship was not constructive - not because I was contractually obligated to do so. Following our experience, I decided it was best not to continue working together.

Important things to note during the process working together:

1) Multiple leads were generated, however your response times were often significantly delayed. As communicated during onboarding, speed to lead is critical for conversion, and this directly impacted outcomes

2) You were uncooperative and at times disrespectful towards the team, which made effective execution difficult

3) Our team followed your exact instructions, submitting 230 applications as requested, despite advising improvements to key areas such as the Loom video and cover letter - which you chose not to implement

4) There were delays on your end in completing onboarding requirements and providing necessary materials

5) At no point were you “pushed” to purchase connects - we simply notified you when your balance was low so campaigns could continue running

After the refund was issued, you requested that we also cover your Upwork connect spend, and indicated you would leave a negative review otherwise. This is not something I am willing to engage with.

I've personally worked with 600+ clients, and results come from strong collaboration, responsiveness, and mutual trust. In this case, that standard was not met, and issuing a refund was the most appropriate way to part ways.

Amazing Work!

I have been scammed by marketing companies in the past not delivering on things that were promised. These guys were my last attempt at giving a marketing team to generate me leads that actually would close. They have more then performed! Within the second week after the profile optimization I closed 3,500 USD and am looking to close potentially a 5-10k a month retainer as well as a 5 figure client! I am very excited to continue working with them and cannot wait to see this grow and the work pile in!

Helpful Tool to Accelerate Growth

I used UpMatch for 3 months and have nothing but positive things to say about the experience. Ali and the crew are very knowledgeable and hardworking, making for a great collaboration. Clear guidelines to help succeed on Upwork

I signed up with Upmatch after I came across their profile on social media. The on boarding process was very streamlined and easy to follow. They helped updated my upwork profile and starting bidding for project.

I started getting response on bus from week one and I signed my first contract this week (week 3) for $5.5k.

Secured 3 clients within the first week…

Secured 3 clients within the first week working with these guys, still got client calls coming in - I joined with a lower ticket service than they would typically deal with and they catered for my needs - definitely worth the initial investment not only for getting clients and start earning but for the insight into UpWork and how to optimise your profile 👍🏻

Better Than I Expected

I spent weeks bidding on Upwork, refining my profile, and trying every tip I could find but I wasn’t seeing results. I signed up for an UpMatch call without high expectations, but that changed quickly. Jon was patient, walked me through the process, and even shared tips so I could do it myself. It felt genuinely focused on helping, not pushing a sale. Ali later followed up, answered all my questions, and even suggested a call to explain things clearly. The support felt thoughtful and low-risk.

After subscribing, the experience exceeded my expectations. My profile improved a lot, and I started landing clients through both bidding and invitations which shows the bidding strategy and profile improvements are working together. More importantly, I learned practical skills from Ali and the team: writing stronger cover letters, negotiating, and presenting myself with confidence. Great so far

Upmatch has been bidding for 8 days and I landed a client on a monthly retainer of 2000/month just yesterday. Ali has been great with video support to discuss strategy for taking on more projects when deadlines are tight. The quality of the proposals (long term, high value) fit my service for UX / UI design very well. Making the loom video has been a big help. Generally the process gets you to prioritise your service and practice sales, which is always a bonus. The added benefit they offer is you can pause your auto-billing and restart it again when you're ready. The monthly subscription does feel daunting at first, but getting someone to do your outreach for you gives you the time to work on providing good service. It is money well spent.

We started out strong and closed $9k MRR and a few one-time projects within the first 45 days. We did go through a period with low performance but we learned it is critical to segment your outreach based on service offering. Overall we are pleased thus far and looking for additional ways to scale MRR and closed deals with Upmatch.

Big Time Saver Not Having To Apply For Jobs

I used to spend 2 hours a day applying for jobs on Upwork. Now I'm able to automate the proposal process which saves me time so I can get work done. Would recommend for a busy freelancer who wants to automate their application process. Ali and his team also showed me how to better optimize my Upwork profile to help me standout.

Ali and the Upmatch team are world class

Ali and the Upmatch team are truly world-class. I was skeptical at first—new to Upwork and unsure if it would work—but decided to give it a try.

Within 3 weeks, I scaled from $2K/month to $20K/month, with $18K directly from Upmatch. The results were so overwhelming that I actually asked them to pause outreach until I could handle fulfillment.

What impressed me most was Ali personally calling me and spending 1.5 hours walking me through how to set up processes for scaling. That level of care and insight is rare.

I’m now putting those systems in place and will be turning the tap back on soon. Couldn’t recommend them enough.

Upmatch - just do it!

Working with Ali and the team has been AMAZING! They’re all super-nice and really easy to work with. As a Writer, I wasn’t getting enough time to do as much outreach as I’d have liked, and now they do it for me when I’m working! They’ve taken my business in a whole new direction, I’ve been paid more this month than I’ve ever been paid, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Ignore the cynics and just go for it, as these guys really know what they’re doing 😊

$2K/month to $10K/month

Ali and his team are amazing, professional, and responsive. I sat at $2K - $3K per month for 2-3 years, and with Upmatch, within two months, I was at $10K. It's paid for itself many times over. It does feel too good to be true at first, but Ali's team bids on hundreds of jobs. The numbers just start to match up! Couldn't recommend more.
