Shipped wrong pants (different colour scheme, LESS ATTRACTIVE) though the label is correct, a funny thing. The built quality, especially button holes stitching, is not overwhelming taking in account the waiting time. Lightweight fabric, robust buttons. Overall mixed bag.
....Size one size up to your regular
PS. It's just a theory but I was among the last to be dispatched. Provided that, the entire batch was mishandled with the right label on the wrong pants I don't think I was the first one complaining. Very very strange company policy putting it mildly.
Sizing is off, way off. Size I get with all other American manufacturers is way to small. They say they do not use "vanity sizing" which basically show their own vanity. Wait time is longer than they say, this along with the arrogant customer service makes them a no-go.
There are several points to consider if thinking about doing business with Gustin. First, understand that you will be waiting for several months to receive your items because Gustin is a “crowd-funded” business, meaning they run “campaigns” to take orders which are paid in advance, before items are manufactured and shipped. The design and quality is excellent, however the sizing is rediculously small; order two sizes up! All clothes are completely woven, cut and sewn in L.A., California.
For the quality of their products, value is quite good.
I wanted to share some positive experiences I have personally had with Gustin over five years of ordering a variety of items from the company.
I absolutely love their heavyweight T-shirts. In my opinion you can't beat them for the price, especially for something that is American made. I also love my 1968 jeans — also an unbelievable value for an American Selvedge denim. I stand by the quality of these items and will certainly order more in the future.
Earlier this year I ordered a few items from Gustin and neglected to update my address in their system after moving. The items were shipped to my old address, and the new homeowner did not forward them or return to sender. Even though this was not Gustin's fault, they offered to send me similar items from their stock to replace the items I never received. They could have just told me tough luck, but I really appreciated that they made sure I didn't walk away empty-handed.
Orders the 8-pack garment dyed v neck t-shirts. Took 4 months to receive. The colors are not at all like the picture, and, despite carefully checking the size chart measurements, they run very small. I’ll never order from them again. I don’t know what happened to this company. The quality used to be so good. These look like they came from Wish and have a Agustin label sewn on.
I’ve been purchasing from Gustin for at least 5 years. The range of fabrics and Made in America appealed to me. I did not mind waiting 2-3 months.
This year the wait has been over 6 months,
e. g. I ordered wool blend 5-pocket pants in December. Now July. Who wants wool blend pants in July?
The company’s updates on construction process are ALWAYS highly optimistic. The latest delay was blamed on sewing staff taking vacation time over July 4.
I have recently bought STOCK product satisfactorily.
I doubt I will ever enroll in another campaign again.
I think their growth over the years outgrew their production systems. Sad.
Delivered a product significantly different from what was advertised, agreed to a refund including my cost of shipping, then only gave me a shipping credit which effectively forces me to spend more with them on inconsistent products in the future. On top of that it took them four months to fulfill the order.
Dyanna is not to be trusted, and the entire company has declined significantly. Shop with other organizations.
I backed a campaign in early January 2022. The website showed an estimated ship time of late February at that time. In March I emailed asking for an update and was told about 'unexpected delays'.
I read plenty of bad reviews here, so that bummed me out. The jeans finally arrived in mid June, 6 months later. And they didn't fit. I'd been wearing a pair of Gustin Jeans I ordered 6 years ago and at that time it didn't take long to receive a pair after a campaign was funded.
I ordered the same size and fit and the new ones didn't fit. I returned them and now I have a credit. I don't want to wait another 6 months to possibly receive another pair of jeans, so won't be backing another campaign. Their stock store also has nothing my size... so I feel like I just threw away $200.
Honestly pretty pissed. This company has done nothing to make this experience good or make me feel valued as a customer. Won't ever buy from again.
They get 2 stars because the quality of jeans that arrived looked great. But the experience felt labored and a hassle. I even had to pay the $16 postage to return the damn jeans.
Unexpected delays, runs behind schedule. I have ordered now 3 pairs of jeans from Gustin over 5 years, if you have a whole season to wait before sporting the clothes and are running a tight budget, its a good option. I have had to replace the jeans after about 18 months of use. I think the quality is good but if you get them tight you will run right through them.
I am tired of them to be honest, it will be a while before I use them again (probably 18 months)
My god this company is bad. I really, really, really wanted to like them, since the business model makes a lot of sense. In theory. In practice it only works if they get the sizing right. And they don’t. Sizing varies dramatically from item to item, and even the same size jeans ordered twice could be quite different. I’ve had to return most of what I’ve bought, and when you wait 6 months for an item and are on the hook for shipping and can’t get anything better than store credit for a return… we’ll, that’s just terrible. I kept getting tempted by them because the stuff looks so good, but I can’t do it anymore and I don’t think you should either. If you desperately need some unique denim at a decent price and are willing to go through a LOT of hassle and maybe be disappointed in the end, then go for it. Otherwise, I’d stay away.
UPDATE: I’ve been waiting 8 months now for a pair of pants. They were listed as “shipping now” over 2 months ago. Last week they just revealed that none of the pants in this run passed quality control, and they’re all being remade. I expect it to be a full year from initial purchase to delivery, if I receive them at all. And the odds that they’ll fit? I’m not hopeful. Really, stay away.
Gustin fails over and over. I ordered a Dopp kit recently. Waited four months for it to arrive. Great quality but it’s ridiculously small. What a scam.
It is absolutely ridiculous how long it takes to receive your order. I have been waiting 5 months to receive mine and I was hoping the (heavy waxed) jeans would be ready for winter. Sadly they won't be. Very little communication apart from logging onto their website to see what stage it is at (6 stages and mine has been stuck at 3/6 for ages). The problem with this company is they release countless number of clothing items each day to be funded. At any one time they must have hundreds of different items being made to specific orders. You have to wait until they get the fabric, then wait until it is cut, then wait and wait and wait and wait. They have had my money for 5 months and I have succumbed to the fact my money is likely lost and I won't be able to get a refund. I can't even comment on how good the product is but I know that if it ever arrives, I will still have to get the hem taken up at more expense for me. Stay clear of this company
After many tries and fails over a three year period I've finally said enough is enough.
A manufacturer I wanted to like.
1. Fit - as described
2. Quality way out of normal tolerance
3. Flaws - I've had two pairs of jeans both have denim flaws in visible and structural places one now needs a costly repair on the second wear. Waistband flaw.
4. Order cancellation - happened once very disappointing.
5. Customer service - it's ok but you don't seem to get a result. Maybe as I live in the UK. Returns are possible but not realistic.
My take away is reduced pricing that's down to low if any quality control that's hit and miss at the cost of the customer.
The jeans are nicely hemmed but, despite being made to order, in only one length - much too long.
I ordered 6 v neck tees for a total of $125. The order took 6 months. The packaging was a UPS box with the tees jammed inside with tape wrapped around the box. The shirts are XL. They are slim but fit pretty good. The colors are way off. I would probably wear 2 of the 6. One shirt was a odd pink, I think it was suppose to be red and another was a odd purple maybe it was suppose to be black. I will never order from Gustin again. The stuff looks great on the website. I am guessing it's the American version of WISH. This brand is a gamble. Roll the dice. Maybe you will get an awesome product after 6 months or maybe you will get trash.
I was first introduced to Gustin several years ago, and have since ordered numerous items ranging from jeans to belts to socks to t-shirts. Over that time I’ve had the opportunity to form some opinions on the garments and customer experience, and felt compelled to share here for others’ benefit.
First, it should be noted that Gustin’s business model and wide selection of fabrics and fits is quite impressive. I actively seek made-in-North America garments and am not afraid to pay more or wait a little longer for high quality, domestically-sourced things. Unfortunately Gustin fall short on delivering their promise of “value” since nearly all of my experiences have been plagued by wild variations in sizing and color, manufacturing flaws, excessive delays in shipment, and a model that places all financial burden on the consumer.
I’ll admit there are Gustin items I really like, such as their heathered t-shirts and socks (which are just private label Anonymousism). Same goes for my #151 jeans that have no flaws and fit just right after a few warm soaks. Sadly, of the dozen or so shirts that I own, I’d say only about 5 fit as expected and match the color shown on the site. Two pairs of jeans have also been way off the mark in published/actual sizing, and prematurely relegated to the hand-me-down bin.
The beginning of the end was my recent order for #382 charcoal dye jeans, set to ship “December/January” per Gustin’s site. After giving them the benefit of the doubt for delays in early 2021 due to Covid issues, my patience began to wear thin by late March. I reached out to the CSR and politely asked for an update, to which he replied they were in the home stretch and shipping in April. Four weeks later… no jeans. So I reached out again, and he said they were at the fulfillment center and shipment was imminent. Days later, I received an email out of the blue stating I was being refunded the entire $200 plus getting $40 store credit for my troubles. I emailed once again seeking clarification, and was told my jeans didn’t pass QC and would not be shipped. Never a mention of a contingency plan or availability of other fits in the same fabric. Essentially Gustin got an interest free $200 loan for six months, then reneged on my order.
The straw that broke the camel’s back was what happened in the days that followed. I was perusing the “stock” store, looking for another pair of raws to make up for my canceled order, and happened upon a pair of #74 on sale and in my size. Sweet! When the jeans arrived I quickly discovered the leg openings were .25” different on left/right, the chainstitching was crooked, the right front pocket had been folded over and sewn onto itself, and there were other imperfections in the overall construction. What had been listed as a “sale” item was more like a “factory second”. The irony of receiving a pair of jeans this bad after having waited patiently for six months only to have my order cancelled due to QC issues was stunning.
Gustin: if you’re reading this, please heed the feedback written by me and others to make your business better. I’m empathetic to the challenges of managing a large vendor base—it’s what I did for a living in the aerospace industry for years, and I recognize at times it can be a real grind. What I’ve learned, however, is that transparency, humility and willingness to learn from your mistakes and improve upon them are what set good companies apart from the bad ones. An honest mistake is one thing—but a business model that fails to take action on known, repeated workmanship defects and missed commitment dates is inexcusable, especially at the prices you charge. Take the advice I was given early in my career: “under-promise and over-deliver”. The other way around is a surefire recipe for losing customers.
TL;DR – I do not recommend Gustin to anyone seeking a truly high-quality, high-value garment unless you enjoy gambling with your hard earned money. The appeal of rare fabrics and made in USA manufacturing is undeniable, but the inconsistent production quality and constant schedule delays have convinced me to take my business elsewhere. There are lots of great options at a similar price point available from retailers who post honest sizing data, have full size runs in stock, and offer more reasonable exchange/credit policies.
This is to summarize my experience with Gustin. The main advantage is amazing abundance of various fabrics. This is truly a Fabric Feast and a reason to keep your eye on Gustin. The main drawback is inconsistency. According to Gustin's Fit Guide I am exactly 33 Straight. But I was "taught" to order size 34 because the actual waist is always one inch smaller than promised by Fit Guide. But when you go from 33 to 34 you also get bigger thighs, cuffs and inseam. This also affects your belt. So I get more baggy look only because they are unable to stick to their Fit Guide. That's a shame. Now some trifles. Waiting time is not a problem for me, finally every order arrives. But from Oct'20 my shipments are untrackable (some USPS changes, they say) and that's kinda annoying. Overall building quality is good but not great. Maybe after months of waiting and special-for-you air I just expect not to find loose threads everywhere. Unfortunately I am not tall enough for their shirts so no experience here. So, Gustin, please stick to your Fit Guide and don't forget about Quality Control.
Ordered Oct 2020
Jeans was schedule to be delivered before Christmas,
We are in Feb 2021 and the Gustin Rep told me "will ship over the next three weeks"
But every day they try to sell me other items - Maybe if Gustin invested 1% of marketing budget in manufacturing I would get my Jeans :-(((((
You can order a jeans for your Kid, he might get it when he is in collage!!
I'm
I really like the idea behind Gustin but my first order was a bit of a rough patch.
I bought the 8 pack of t shirts. It took longer than I was expecting, but this year has been chaotic.
My biggest issue is that I’ve only had the shirts for 2 months and they are already getting holes in them.
Absurd sizing. How can you be “fanatical about fit” when a 32 waist is actually a 29? And no returns. No response to email. Denim looks pretty good, but never again with this nonsense.
