Just as bad with their Employees

I feel sorry that customers have had such a bad experience with Abbey, however there is an article published in the Irish Times today titled "Sacked financial adviser wins €48,000 at WRC" which showed they were equally as bad to their employees. Bad all round.

My husband and I are no longer clients…

My husband and I are no longer clients of Abbey Wealth. Thank goodness for that. We have complaints which have been rumbling on since April 2025. I asked for clarity on outstanding issues of AFS Wealth Management and Advisers Ltd' CEO Vesper France and Head of Compliance and John Cairnduff including why AFS is collecting fees for the other organisation, AWM Advisers Ltd gave the advice, why AFS does not keep proper client records. It has 11 months and had to go to a third party to find out what fees it had taken (!) from me, as did AWM in my husband's case. I telephoned yesterday morning to speak to John Cairnduff, spoke to the Head of Client Services (who was perfectly jolly and polite). She told me he would telephone back immediately. I waited several hours. I telephoned again to be told everyone was in a meeting and would call back when it was finished. At 16h I received an email from the CEO: Thank you for your detailed correspondence. I acknowledge receipt and confirm that it has been reviewed.
In documenting your allegations, that may indicate a criminal offence or a breach of regulatory obligations has occurred, I am required to report your allegations to the relevant authorities.
Your relationship with Abbey Wealth has now concluded. To preserve the integrity of any investigation or complaint handling process, this will be our final direct correspondence on the matter. Any future communications relating to this complaint will be coordinated through our Compliance Team and Legal representatives. We respectfully ask that you direct any further correspondence via formal channels only, The "criminal activity" (her words) is the theft of information by an outgoing Financial Adviser (which AW knew was taken, but did nothing about for more than a year, including warning clients). Then at 16.01, and email from the Head of Compliance: "I note your email below and also your email of 8 April. In relation to the latter, I also note that its contents continue to include unsubstantiated allegations, which in this case also include abusive statements which I consider to be defamatory and potentially libellous. For clarity, our position in relation to your time as an Abbey Wealth client is as follows
• We have issued our final response to your complaint dated 1 February, in which we indicated that we will not engage on any of your opinions which have no basis in fact. As we have provided all the information you requested in your complaint, we regard this matter as closed.
• We are progressing your data subject access request (‘DSAR’).
• We note and acknowledge that your email of 8 April represents a complaint - I will formally respond to it in due course.
• As you are no longer a client of the Firm, nor are you a prospective client of the Firm, we do not have any continuing regulatory obligation to you.
In these circumstances, please be aware that, given the continued abusive nature of your communications with the Firm, we will not be taking, or returning your call(s), nor will we be responding to your emails, beyond those in relation to the matters addressed above. For the avoidance of doubt, we are happy to engage with any party who is prepared to do so in a constructive and responsible.

As you can see the correspondence i contradictory and defensive. I am being accused of being unreasonable for waiting patiently for more than a year for data subject access requests to be fulfilled, for a single review we never had (when four were promised annually). I am being asked to produce evidence which is already on AW's website, in its terms and conditions and in its files. The behaviour is shocking. I invite you to read AW's public promises and consider whether, given the number of increasingly poor reviews whether AW is all that it presents itself to be. Our complaints are similar to many expressed on this site. AW has left my husband and bitterly disappointed and inconvenienced. We have wasted a great deal of time. We have been stressed and anxious. We were promised a personalised experience and continuity. I have had four FAs in a year, my husband three and the last one, who left in August 2024 wasn't even removed from his account. AW didn't notice that its employee had left, three months after she joined the organisation. AW has the evidence to substantiate what it calls my "allegations" i.e. complaints it has failed to address about abysmal service and non-compliance with statutory duties. Before Vesper France complains this is fake review i had several experiences yesterday, including hanging on the phone waiting for it to be answered, three conversations with different people all promising a return call from the Head of Compliance (which he never made) and two emails from AW. It doesn't get any more genuine, or disappointing than that.

Abbey Wealth: Perfect for Financial Losses, Empty Promises, and Taking You for a Ride

This is a follow-up to my review on 21/10/24 about mis-selling by Abbey Wealth. It was titled "Mis-selling, complaint's procedure ignored and mere facade regulators". Sorry, I cannot give you the link, Trustpilot does not allow it. But it’s not essential to read it to the rest of my story.
If you were to look and find my post, you would see a representative named Vesper France from Abbey Wealth inviting me to get in touch so she could “investigate” the matter. It turned out that she was only interested in looking good to all of you and delaying me from posting here again.
I reached out, as requested. She replied a few times with excuse after excuse. And now — five months on — no resolution, not even communications. Just radio silence for the past three months. How deceitful, Abbey Wealth cannot be trusted.
As for the positive Abbey Wealth reviews still appearing here, I find it hard to believe they are not fake.

DO NOT USE AT ANY COST!!!

I set up a saving investment with Abbey Wealth, was reeled in by an advisor and then got palmed off to someone else once I'd signed up. Over 7 years I'd have made more money leaving it in my current account! In the end I went directly to RL360 to get my money out. There was no one at Abbey Wealth that I was able to contact. Seems like they went into administration.

Stay clear of this company for your pension

I transferred my final salary pension into a Qrops in 2012 after receiving advise from Abbey Wealth Services (at that time called Abbey Financial Services). From 2012-2019, the pension amount hardly grew. Over this period, yearly increase was less than 1-2%. And the firm recommended investment that were also too complex to be suitable for me. In fact, at one point, 1/3 were locked in not able to sell nor reinvest. As soon as my lock-in period of 8 years were over, I moved to another firm which in the last 4 years together with myself manage to grow the pension by 16% (3.7% p.a). Not great but at least some growth. So stay clear of Abbey Wealth Services Spain if you don't want your hard earned pension being used to pay useless advisor commission.

Six years after moving your investment, you remain dissatisfied with the investment performance achieved between 2012 and 2019. As a financial adviser, Abbey Wealth would have recommended a solution for your specific needs. But we were never responsible for the future investment performance of that solution. I respectfully suggest you raise your complaint with the product provider.

More than a year of very poor service.…

Something over a year ago and after more than a year of very poor service, I received a letter from the chief executive promising that following years service charges would be halfed. Nothing happened.
Afterhaving been assigned the forth advisor in about 18months, I chose to investgate by myself, my poorly performing pension investment, to find it had been drawn-down from twice in the same period in the previous year, with only one of the deductions being transferred to me each time.
When I pressed my latest advisor at Abbey Wealth, it became clear that they - like the previous three - were unable to provide a suitable service to me because of the workloads and work conditions they were subject to.
I changed to a new company, only to have a new employee from Abbey Wealth contact me this new year, pretending that Abbey Wealth was still providing me with a service.
I gave an appropriate response.

Stupid inane response from Abbey

As we are unable to reply to to any comments made by the Company being reviewed, i have had to resort to writing a second review to follow on from the first.

I am well aware of your complaint, but that complaint was only made for naming the CEO, which is publicly available information from your own website.

There is no defamatory or inaccurate information, this is simply an attempt by Abbey Wealth to obfuscate a GENUINE review, albeit from a now ex-client, primarily because it does not fit the public perception they are now trying to build.

While i am now based in the UK, i was not for many years when dealing with Abbey, and at no point did anyone advise Abbey were unable to provide advice with now being UK based, at one point Abbey were supposed to be setting up UK operations, as was discussed with Victor.

Linked in profiles are easily done incorrectly, again to simply cover up the real identity of the person behind the keyboard.

As i stated on the original review, your company is incompetent and should have it's licence removed. Abbey is not fit to provide wealth management advice.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY !!!

Absolutely terrible experience!!!!

I was an Abbey Wealth client since 2018, I`m also a verified Trustpilot member for a number of years so not a fake reviewer.

Up to March this year I was fairly nonplussed with Abbey Wealth, who were certainly not perfect (I was compensated the maximum amount by the financial regulator the FCA in the UK after being given advice when I joined abbey Wealth, to use a certain company to provide a financial report), but my latter adviser for the past few years was absolutely excellent which was why I stayed with them as a client.

Since March this year the service from Abbey Wealth has been absolutely terrible!, at one point a six figure sum on my online account completely disappeared, whilst it was a computer problem with the provider, Abbey Wealth were my contact and didn`t answer my immediate calls or emails, it took 3 working days to contact someone, all the while my account showed my funds missing and a zero balance which was incredibly stressful, when I finally managed to contact someone at Abbey Wealth they showed no empathy or understanding of how upsetting it was to find out on a Friday that my online fund had gone from a 6 figure balance to absolute zero!, and I couldn`t speak to anyone from Abbey Wealth from the Friday morning until the next Wednesday!!.

in March my financial adviser had left the company and they allocated me a new adviser, I spoke to him straight away and he said he would call back the next morning, he didnt call back as promised with info next day, and when I eventually managed to get through to their office in Spain to find out why, it turned out he had left the company too that morning, the next adviser that I was allocated was very nice, however, she also quit a few days later, i asked for yet another adviser and was eventually allocated a new one in Ireland after several weeks who sent me one single email then never contacted me again, wholly unacceptable!

initially my emails of complaint were answered, however, then despite numerous emails they were completely ignored!, I couldn`t get any answer to calls to the Spanish office and eventually got through to their office in Ireland, I only got a call back after threatening to involve the Irish banking regulator

I managed to track down my previous excellent adviser (he wasn`t allowed to contact me to say he had left his previous company, I tracked him down via google) and have now moved my portfolio across to his new firm.
I didnt contact abbey Wealth to tell them I was leaving and have never heard anything further from them , absolutely nothing whatsoever.

The service i received from Abbey Wealth since many of their advisers left was completely awful and based on my poor experiences would never recommend this company in any way at all, latterly they were unresponsive, uncaring and basically uninterested in their client despite them looking after a six figure sum for me!

Competence and incompetence of Abbey Wealth, Marbella and UK

I have been with Abbey Wealth for many years. To be honest …. not bad but not great.
My advisor seems to change too frequently for my liking.
They handled the change from Quilter to Utmost satisfactorily.
A couple of months ago we decided we would make a small withdrawal….to be able to celebrate Christmas and family birthdays.
We must have spent more than 24 hours in total, making phone calls, filling in forms, proving our address, proving we are married and live together, proving our address again , Photocopying Passports, NIEs , proving our address yet again.
We live in the “Campo” , our local Town Hall changes the number of our “parcela” and of our house on a regular basis, the road we live on does not have a name, and we DO NOT have a postal delivery service. For this reason ALL our bills etc. are sent to our PO Box in the local village. Abbey Wealth and Utmost could not get their heads round this.
I called the Abbey Wealth Office in Marbella, to be honest with little success, if the call was answered, which it frequently wasn’t..
On one occasion my call was answered by a male voice, unlike the lady from Marbella. He seemed interested, patient and knowledgeable . His name was George Lewis. I asked him how long he had been in Spain…… he said he was based in I o M in UK . Within three days I had several calls from him , he researched “exactly” what we needed to do, we signed a couple of forms for him . He promised he would do all he could to push through the transfer.
On the same day that we received an email from Marbella asking for proof of address and a few other things …. we received a phone call from George Lewis informing us the transfer to our account was to be made almost immediately. Today it arrived .
Thank you so much George! It has been a pleasure to deal with someone as understanding, knowledgeable and polite as you!

Dear Michael.
Thank you for your comments.
The first account withdrawal, or a one off withdrawal, can be a laboured process and the need for anti money laundering checks and proof of identity checks is a consequence of the scams that take place and wanting to ensure the right person is requesting and receiving the monies.
With an office in Spain for more than 15 years, we are aware of the complexities of local post arrangements. It is a frustration, especially when the proof of address requires the details to match and I apologise that the need to have this information may have delayed the process and caused additioinal personal administration for you.
We appreciate and will act on your feedback on the calls to our Marbella office (although we have now moved our operation to the east coast of Spain).
I am pleased to hear you have received your withdrawal monies and to hear of the role George played in facilitating this. George will very much appreciate your feedback and we are grateful to you for sharing your experiences.
Kind regards. Vesper France

Disingenuous Company

Massive influx of 5 star reviews in recent days intended to mask over the more accurate ones. Interestingly, a lot of these reviews are found 'useful' by one Jane Hewin. Jane Hewin is actually Vesper France's original name.
A lot of these reference Phill Pennick as a point of contact, believe me, he is a crook and been involved in forging clients signatures over the years, just google his name and scam. I am pretty sure he does not actually advise any clients either, not even sure he is qualified!!
Avoid at all costs!
