I don't understand why system forcing me to give them one star before I can write they don't deserve , auto and general really scammed me, I was with budget for the longest time and they paid all my claims without struggling. It happens that I started and I wanted my business to be insured I then called budget to send me a broker to look at my business they send auto and general broker, I was so confused he said we work under one umbrella I then phoned budget to check with them, I was told their the one that sent him. I then ask him to put my car too under the business, he just ask for policy number since he was going to move it from normal insurance to business. I then got involved in an accident they rejected my claim telling me I should get the car back in 48 hours from their storage. The following day the manager called me telling she will investigate further and I should wait with going to fetch the car it was Monday when she call I waited the whole week for her to get back to me, I then called the following Monday they said they will get her to call me i waited again, until today 6 weeks in waiting what kind of service is this, I hope this review will save someone before making biggest mistake of their lives.

Worst Insurance experience #AUTO&GENERAL

Good day All, I would like to share my painful experience and still ongoing with AUTO&GENERAL INSURANCE.

I have experience horrible service, directed to Auto and General entirely. 2nd of Jan 2026 a motorist, over took a few cars on a solid lane, drove into my right side of my vehicle while I was busy waiting for any cars in the oncoming lane, As I turned in , out of nowhere a Motorbike speeding straight into the right side of my vehicle, damaging my vehicle, I was told by Auto and General that I dont have to claim through the Kingprice directly but with Auto and general, updated by their trusted advisor, saying Auto and General will claim for damages and my excess back from them. It was a lie and a way to take the customers money. I received my car back from Dals auto forcing me to pay the excess first before I could go and see my car, red flags everywhere, I was also told that after inspecting my car they told me that they were only told what to fix, more than 3 damaged areas not fixed, used bad aftermarket parts that doesn't align well and easily visible, I was told by the panel beater the assessor removed it as part of the repair, I now have a vehicle back with incomplete repairs done and not hearing back from an insurance company who you suppose to trust with automatic deductions every month, First time claimed in my life and I have been told they wont be able to get may excess back and just like that its the customers issue to deal with. Horrible horrible!!!! I will not stop here Auto and General

WILL NEVER EVER REFER ANYONE TO THEM OR BE A CLIENT OF THEM!! A CLIENT OF THEIRS DROVE INTO ME FROM BEHIND WHILE I WAS SITTING AT A RED ROBOT!! THE CLIENT WAS BUSY ON HER PHONE!! I TOOK MY CAR TO 2 PANELBEATERS WHO DID THE ASSESSMENT!! I HANDED IN THE ACCIDENT SCENE PHOTOS TOGETHER WITH THE ACCIDENT REPORT AND BOTH ASSESMENTS WITH DAMAGE PHOTOS TO THEIR 3RD PARTY !!! THE DAMAGE WAS OVER R100 000 !!!! THEY CAME BACK TO ME WITH A RIDICIOULESS AMOUNT OF R26000 !! CAN U BELIEVE IT!! THEY SA ID TO ME I MUST FIT 2ND HAND PARTS TO MY CAR! I REFUSED TO SIGN AND TAKR THE MONEY!! MY CLAIM IS STILL ON GOING WITH THEM!!! THEY ARE PATHETIC AND BIG SKELMS!! WHY DO U HAVE LIABELITY COVER OF BETWEEN 1-5 MILLION IF U NOT GOING TO PAY OUT THE RIGHT AMOUNT!! NEVER EVER GO TO A&G U WONT GET UR MONEY IF U NEED TO CLAIM ESPECIALY 3RD PARTY CLAIMS!!! PATHECTIC AND USELESS SKELMS!!

No stars for Auto General/Budget Direct

No stars. This insurer is lower than a snake's duodendum. They take their excess before considering your claim and then muck you around for months. In the end I withdrew my claim for $2450 for property damage to my house and I could not tolerate them any longer and could not deal with unintelligble people in Sth Africa. I am still waiting for my refund of excess in the sum of $1000

On 19 August 2025 I submitted a claim…

On 19 August 2025 I submitted a claim on the app. I then waited a day, 2 days, 3 days and no response. After 5 days I CALLED in and they had no idea about the claim at A&G. I spoke to a super rude lady who then got the manager involved and 3 days later after I CALLED in again they said the app was in limbo but they found the claim and will process it.

Another week passed by and I CALLED in again (3 weeks already and not a single reach out from A&G) to say that the car is overheating, they arranged for the vehicle to be collected and towed to an autobody repairer for assessment. After 2 weeks NO CALL or UPDATES I CALLED in AGAIN. To be told the parts would be arriving 30 October and they claim no damage to my radiator (which is not true as there was coolant at the accident) Since 19 August 2025, I have rented a vehicle for 2 months, called in about 20 times and paid 3 months insurance. A&G needs to refund all these costs and pay out for the vehicle as a write off. Market value is resale vs purchase, 2007 Mazda MX-5 sells for R225k and gets bought for around R150K so average market value is around R185k, 3 months insurance and 2 months car rental not to mention 20 calls from my end, A&G should be paying out roughly R200k

They have stolen my vehicle as it stands because no repair and no payout and AGAIN NO COMMUNICATION whatso ever.

Their holding company IDRD and LAURA are also a bunch a liars, she said normal turn around is 5-15 working days, today marks 12 working days (with a promise of putting my 2 month old case on the top of the pile and I would get a response in 5 working days) STILL NO CALL from A&G or any updates.

Their app is useless and nobody reads messages.
Their call center staff are untrained and useless.
Email is a joke and never goes through.

I already layed a complained on hello peter AND FB and STILL have not received a single call to apologise or sort the matter out.

ABSOLUTE JOKE ! Do not deal with these criminals and liars, the false claim the A&G is a big company and underwrites insurance is just a sales marketing strategy. I will not be a client and NEVER recommend them to anyone !

If I could give zero stars

If I could give zero stars, I would. In fact, I’d give negative stars if physics would allow it, because my experience with Budget Insurance has been a black hole of incompetence where time, energy, and sanity simply vanish.

The claims team appears to have been trained by a combination of circus clowns, fortune tellers, and perhaps a group of pigeons pecking at a keyboard. Asking them for help is like trying to get directions from a cat—it’s technically possible they could assist, but don’t hold your breath.

And then there was Mr. Rude Claims Advisor, who sounded like he was auditioning for the lead role in Coughs & Splutters: The Musical. Forget customer service etiquette, I was lucky if I got through his mucus concerto without feeling like I needed to sanitise my ears. When I politely asked for a supervisor after his snotty (pun fully intended) attitude, he didn’t say a word. Not an apology. Not even a passive-aggressive grunt. He just hung up. Like a sulky toddler who lost at Monopoly.

So, Budget Insurance, here’s the takeaway: If your idea of "customer support" is phlegm, attitude, and vanishing acts, then bravo—you nailed it. If not, might I suggest investing in staff training, basic manners, and maybe a box of tissues?

To anyone thinking of insuring with Budget: you’d have better luck stapling your policy to a pigeon and hoping it gets delivered than expecting this crew to handle your claim.

Be careful to be debited before the time

More than a I have lodged a complain against Fidelity Auto&General debiting my account the 13th or 14th each month and not the 15th as per contract. This happens even if the 15th is on a week day. I wasted more than R100 airtime time to sort it out. They continue debiting before my pay date. I have send them emails. They assured me it will be rectified. For the past 3 months they debit again before the time. This result in my account being in a minus, which negatively impacts my credit rating. I want to alert people to be careful chosing Fidelity Auto & General.

disappointed debited on a cancelled policy

i cancelled a policy with them in 2023 because of a claim no entertained stoo payment and reversed it they changed the reference and continued to debit daylight robbery i called the bank they also confirmed reference and amount changed and now they have this force debit where you cannot reverse or cancel a debit order. give me my money back

I am so disappointed with them

I am so disappointed with them, my car came back not fully repaired, it's been three weeks now, they are not contacting me and the car is with the panel beaters. I feel Auto and General is not reliable, I have been sending emails and calling they kerp on telling me that the assessor will contact me 😭😭😭

Poor Service and Unresolved Warranty Claim #630120944 1

I am very disappointed with the service I’ve received from Auto & General regarding my mechanical warranty claim #630120944 1. After multiple attempts to resolve the issue with their dispute department, there has been no resolution, and I am left in limbo. I’ve escalated this matter to the Ombudsman, but it’s been weeks, and I’m still waiting for Auto & General to provide a final response. This delay is unacceptable, and I expect them to address this matter without further delay.

Zero Customer service

No feedback, updates from Auto and General for 28 days. Claim still not approved or declined.
No one seems to even know about the claim.
Those who know tell me about the missing documents from the dealership where the car is. Dealership sent documents and copied me on email and they deny receiving the documents. Its frustrating.

Think I missed A Bullet

I paid my premium on line only to receive an email from Qantas Home insurance who I now find out is really Auto General, that the payment was rejected by Westpac. Impossible with adequate funds, doesn'
t make sense but I'm not paying them twice till I contact my bank.The staff member I spoke to was hard to understand and talked over me constantly.They have done me a favour,I forgot about the QANTAS points and went back to AAMI.So glad I did after reading the reviews.

Don't use them

Committed to pay a claim to a late estate delayed payment for 4 months and are now attempting to force reinstitution of a policy which is no longer needed to honour what they are due to pay.

SCAM

The individual who hit my car and caused damage is insured with budget direct. I have been trying to seek compensation for my damaged vehicle. I received a call from A&G today only for them to tell me that there is nothing they can do even though it was there clients fault. For the past 2 months this scamming company will tell you every excuse not to pay a cent.
They are absolute criminals.
I now need to go to the ombudsman and seek legal advise to try and get something for my damaged car.

DO NOT USE A&G OR BUDGET DIRECT!
