Misleading advertising – supplied the wrong battery

I ordered what was described as a “Yuasa YTZ14S compatible replacement” battery from Battery Trader (Order #123312, September 2025). Instead of supplying an equivalent, they sent me a US Powersports USZ14S. (a much cheaper battery)

The USZ14S is not the same specification as the Yuasa YTZ14S:

Yuasa YTZ14S: 11.8 Ah, 230 CCA

USZ14S supplied: 11 Ah, 200 CCA

That’s 800 mAh less capacity and 30 A less cranking power. This is a material shortfall in both specification and performance.

When I raised the issue, their responses were dismissive and gaslighting – suggesting I had “buyer’s remorse” and trying to claim that batteries are “perishable” and therefore not returnable. They also told me my rights were “time-limited,” which is incorrect under UK consumer law (Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives a 30-day right to reject goods not as described).

This is misleading advertising: they use the Yuasa model name in the product listing, omit critical specifications like CCA, and then ship an inferior substitute.

I have escalated the matter with a Section 75 claim through my card provider and reported Battery Trader to Trading Standards.

I was looking at the lithium option from battery traders for my mobility scooter as I have bought the generic ones before the price was my main concern but decided to go for them. I’m very happy with them I have used my scooter to go around a petting farm and the battery meter never came off full after I had another appointment at hospital and used my scooter again and it was still showing full on the meter. I put the lithium batteries on charge after this. I would definitely recommend the battery traders lithium batteries upgrade I so pleased with the results I wish I bought them sooner.

Sent a 2 year follow up from orders@, a thinly disguised spam sales email masquerading as after-care. No unsubscribe. They refused to remove my details in favour of arguing. OK, argue with the ICO as refusal is a breach of law. Support ticket #537870

Back in May this year, I bought online a battery from "Battery Trader" for my hedge trimmer. This company
provided prompt service, and the battery lasts for a good while between charges. Alan Cunningham.

To start, the information on their web site made it easy to identify the batteries I required. Ordering was easy, delivery was fast. The batteries were as described. I was able to put both my mobility scooters back into service at very reasonable cost.

Very happy with my battery purchase. Good advice from suppliers and great delivery time.

Advice and help was clear and helpful.
Batteries supplied work well and allow continued use of an old cutting tool when needed.

Excellent service and great price, the batteries I bought for my mobility scooter were exactly right and a perfect fit.

I purchased two batteries from this company, hoping for a performance of 15 to 20 miles. Unfortunately, they only delivered about two miles of range. After discussing this with my bank, they graciously issued a refund.

However, I received a concerning response from the company, including threats of legal action for not returning the funds. I have made it clear that I will not repay for items that do not meet expectations. I offered to return the batteries, as they are very defective, but the company seems unwilling to facilitate that.

Though disappointed by my experience, as the company seems dismissive of their warranty commitments, I refuse to let this setback define me. Their comments suggesting I should limit my travels were disrespectful, but I chose to stand firm.

To protect my rights, I have decided to enlist a lawyer who is prepared to take on my case. I urge others to approach this company with caution, as my experience highlights significant concerns about their customer service and support for individuals with disabilities. Trust your instincts; you deserve better.

Have been buying scooters batteries from this supplier for years and I can honestly say that there was never a problem with either the delivery or the quality of the batteries! Five stars from me! Thank you
