Simon Speed: excellent at explaining the legal requirements and pros and cons of options to meet our needs. Very professional service and a pleasure to deal with.
Should we have further legal needs; we’ll go to Bonallack & Bishop.

Divorce is difficult - especially when children are concerned. As a father my situation was complicated and certainly something I was not prepared for. Dinshaw Painter and Michelle Newton worked together to help me resolve finances and child custody. They were truthful in that, in divorce, there are no winners. On more than one occasion I wanted to quit and 'give in'. However, going for what is right and fair, has given me a future I can build on and more contact with my children than I thought I could ever be awarded.
The divorce process is painful, but Bonallack and Bishop were brilliant in guiding me through it and helping me fight for what is right. I will always be grateful.

If I could score my experience I’d actually give them a zero out of five. I kept a log and in the end it was 2 sides of A4 and I have all the evidence in the form of emails and phone call records.
I only went with Bonallack and Bishop as the estate agents I originally went with worked in partnership with them and I could use the estate agents office as my hub for documentation. Bonallack and Bishop were also the cheapest.
I should have read the signs when my solicitor left a few weeks after without me being informed, aside from an out of office, giving me alternative contact names and details.
The whole experience was a shambles. Untruths, incompetencies, mistakes and failings throughout. This ranged from sending the contract to the wrong solicitors using the wrong persons name (not sure who the people were) and then blaming that solicitor for the delay, through to using money that I had paid on credit card for the estate management pack and was assured they would order there and then (takes a while to process) to then being told it had in fact been used for searches instead and the pack hadn’t been ordered so needed to pay again. I also experienced countless times where the estate agent and I called and left messages, no one ever called us back and even had them tell us they didn’t receive a message or we hadn’t called. We both have phone records and we both used to laugh about it!
On my quote it said we will contact you if the amount increases which it shouldn’t. Guess what, the cost had increased by £300 without being informed and I spotted it on the portal and questioned it. Was told there had been external increases.
I sent my mortgage deeds on 16th September, I have proof, only to then be told on 11th November that it was still outstanding on file and they hadn’t received it and I needed to print it out again and get it witnessed signed and resent. This was meant to be the time when we were originally exchanging!
I received a really abrupt and rude email that threatened to de-instruct me when I questioned the constant mistakes and failings (used the word shambles) so I had to just be a good boy and keep quiet until everything was sorted. I didn’t even hear from solicitor for the last few weeks, not even on the moving day, it was the trainee and someone else in the business. Probably embarrassed no doubt.
I was their customer at the end of the day, their client, yet it seemed they were completely against me. Always rude, abrupt, argumentative and the tone in their emails reflected this. Like I said, I have all the evidence from day 1, and there is a lot of it! The above is just a few examples!
I wish I had gone with the solicitors I used 5 years ago when I moved. Hindsight is a great thing!
Update- still haven’t received an update as to their so called investigation. Reading the other reviews, it seems like a common theme. I was right, complete shambles!!

Inability to conclude a will trust. The private client department has been dealing with our deceased mother’s will trust for over 3 years now which has caused growing concern with our family because of the ongoing lack of a conclusion.
Responses to requests for timescales to see a conclusion to the will trust being paid out have been only to say that will trusts are “very complicated” and “far from straightforward and particularly tricky”. The firm is using a subcontracted accountants company to deal with the inheritance and capital gains tax issues and are unable to forecast an end to the process.
We elevated our concerns about how long this process is taking to the trustee of the will (who is also a partner solicitor at this firm). But instead of replying, he delegated his response to another solicitor who just repeated the same answers that the case solicitor had given us.
Overall, we have never met or had a phone call from any of these 3 people in B & B, or the accountants firm they are using. We are only dealt with by emails which are often unaddressed and there seems to be no end in sight.
The saga continues…
I’ve used Bonallack and Bishop several times now for both property purchases and remortgages, and I can’t recommend them highly enough. The conveyancing team is consistently professional, efficient, and thorough, making each transaction as smooth as possible. They are always quick to respond to any queries and keep me well-informed throughout the process, ensuring no detail is overlooked.

That lethal combination of incompetence and arrogance. They had a simple job, draw up the documents for the sale of our family home. They failed.
I assume the reply below is from Tim Bishop but I've had no contact from him.

Recently I up-dated my Will after 10 years primarily because a number of people had now died. The Will itself was reasonably straight forward but Simon Speed, the Solicitor got me to think the unthinkable which I disliked but realised just how necessary this was. It is now signed and I can forget about it.

I frequently deal with this firm of solicitors for many different aspects of the law and legal matters. As a Financial Adviser I have clients who also need legal advice from time to time and I am always happy to recommend the firm to them as well. I have always had a good experience from the firm in terms of advice and assistance when it comes to matters relating to various legal matters

Well they may be good solicitors but currently they are, self admittedly, understaffed.
They agreed to take on work for me related to leaseholds and quoted 2-3 hours.
After a month of being told they were busy and couldn’t tell me when they would be able to respond, they eventually suggested I try another solicitor.
So my recommendation would be to get a firm time commitment before engaging this firm.

As a family with property interests, we used B&B Solicitors in the Salisbury office twice. The first experience involved instructing B&B to extend a lease [share of freehold]. The young solicitor on that occasion was impressive and we fed this back to the firm. It gave us the confidence to use the same office again. This time it was for the sale of my elderly parents' home so they could buy another property more suited to their limited mobility. On this occasion, Africa Morante was allocated to the transaction. It all seemed to go OK until approx. 16 months later when an error on the Land Registry Title Register was noted [purely by chance as a result of an entirely unrelated application]. When I raised this on behalf of my parents it was intimated my elderly disabled parents ought to have picked up the error. The error was fixed fairly quickly but only after my pressing the urgency of rectification to the Title Register given it impacted that other unrelated application on behalf of my parents. Chris Tate who considered my complaint was defensive & in absence of any explicit instructions by my parents, was unclear as to how the error arose. Nonetheless, B&B didn't accept fault. A small sum was offered in compensation for the stress/inconvenience caused. Needless to say, we were willing to be loyal clients but after this experience will be going elsewhere for our next property transaction.
WHAT A SHAMBLES! Specifically AFRICA MIRANTE, she is absolutely hopeless! Repeatedly fails to respond to basic enquiries and when she does she ignores half your questions, sends completely the wrong information. Her tardy unprofessional conduct in no way fits with any good law firm, why she is employed is completely beyond me. In my opinion her work needs urgent management oversight as currently she is damaging the reputation if this company. My advice; AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
After the death of my dear wife, my life fell apart, but they provided me with comfort and some very sound advice, explaining in non-legal language what they were doing, and how the whole process worked. I thank you very much. I would recommend them to anyone who is unsure and needs to be put at ease.

Michelle in the salisbury branch was knowledgeable, understanding and helpful. She was on hand at all hours when I needed her. I was looked after and really felt the firm had my best interests at heart. In my situation there was a lot of obstacles and issues for Michelle and the team, they handled them all with professionalism and with ease. I am so grateful to Michelle, Anita and the whole team who helped me and guided me.

I have registered Legal Action at the Fordingbridge Office and they are processing a Claim against METIS HOMES for causing a serious rat infestation at my Grade 2 Listed Thatch Cottage. This has caused significant damage to my thatch roof, interior damage, electical wiring damage because Metis Homes failed to comply with the Prevention Of Damage By Pests Act 1949 - GUILTY
I have used B&B in Fordingbridge for 4 property purchases, and they have been excellent. In particular I would like to mention how helpful Anne Whitely and Stephanie Clark were when I needed independent legal advice, going out of their way to arrange a face to face appointment at short notice. Highly recommended.
