I purchased the expedited fixed price consent order service from Brethertons via Wikivorce. My main reason for choosing them was the price which was alot lower than I had been quoted by local solicitors. The service was initially very poor - my emails were ignored and only responded to if I chased, responses were full of errors or incomprehensible questions, the drafted consent order had errors and omissions in it.
The extra charge for an expedited service was a complete waste of money because nothing was expedited! Wikivorce did refund me this part of the fee but to be honest, I would rather have had a quicker service. Prior to appointing Brethertons, my ex-husband and I had been to mediation and had an agreed financial settlement that was documented and only needed to be written up as a consent order. This took 2 months for Brethertons to complete and submit to court however it was then questioned by the judge because it was not drafted correctly and extra clauses needed to be added. This should have been done by Brethertons before the order was submitted to court and they told me that usually they would be standard clauses and should have been in the order. I did complain to Brethertons and they allocated another member of staff to my case, at which point things improved and I did start getting responses to my queries. All in all it took 4 months to get an approved consent order back from court. If your main criteria for choosing a solicitor is cost (mine was) then choose Brethertons but be aware that you will need to chase them every step of the way. If money is not an issue, pay someone else more and get a better service!

Dreadful. Staff were incompetent. Too scared to make a decision, hiding behind a senior partner and refusing to follow my instructions. A lawyer should advise not dictate. Avoid this company. It is unethical that the compliance manager thought it was ok to investigate her own decision re my complaint. I can only advise to avoid this company. Heartless and far too risk averse. Thank you for your feedback but I will not be in touch. The point I am making is that you should not charge for not following instructions that you have advised against because you are risk averse because as you have stated you were burnt before. Not my fault and I should not be penalised because of your past mistakes. You knew the timescales and took the work on. You were so OTT with your demands for financial details etc that even the selling agent was shocked at being copied into 64 emails in one day. Thankfully, without you I am now in the property, with land registery registration.

Emma Stewart was very helpful to us in doing our will. She made things clear, and answered all our questions very patiently, so that we were confident.

I've been very impressed with Brethertons after my managing agents hired them for a lease renewal + share of freehold purchase - they were incredibly responsive and proactive throughout (very rare in my experience!) Shoutout esp. to Rosey - thank you so much!

We have been served by Amber for a couple of reasons over the last few years, firstly dealing with our late fathers estate and recently sorting our Wills out. Brethertons were instructed to chase an overdue service fee from the managing agents of my flat. I was actually in conversation with the managing agents but they hadn’t noted down one of my calls, as soon as I received the letter i realised something had gone awry and I spoke to my managing agents and sorted the debt repayment with them directly.

I then called Brethertons to try to resolve the issue of their charges. They wanted to charge me £678 for one letter! After much debate they agreed to drop it to £478. I agreed to pay this off monthly. They then put another £240 admin fee on top for this arrangement! I explained a my genuine reasons that I was in a financially challenging situation and offered to borrow the money to pay less in one go. I was told their client had instructed them to not take less. I phoned my management company who said that was untrue.

In the end I wrote with a proposal and this was accepted. But I am still shocked at how a company takes advantage of people in financially challenging situations by charging extortionate fees and creating leverage for themselves with £240 admin fees to set up a direct debit arrangement. Totally unethical.

After my son and his former partner went their separate ways, Emma and Zoe worked tirelessly to bring about the Transfer of Equity so that he could keep his flat. There was a lot of paperwork but they worked diligently and kept us up to date.
We are very pleased with the service we received, as well as the service from Josh Russell who also worked his magic to negotiate a settlement that was acceptable to us. I would not hesitate in recommending Bretherton's.

I highly recommend Emma, Tierney and the team at Brethertons - they led on a stubborn service charge case for our small property company and were very successful in getting it resolved to our satisfaction! Please don't use this company if you have a complex case.
We did as we needed litigation advice in a hurry, that was in 2018, it started well and was OK until after covid.
Our case is still ongoing and is a multi party case. Everyone else in the claim has had the same solicitor throughout, we have had five.
I don't know what that says about the company compared to others.
The final straw was in August when the Claimant’s suggested settlement, the letter arrived at the company but nobody found it for days, then we had a Trainee tell us with the evidence they had it, was a good offer and we should settle. There is no evidence, if we had settled at that point we would be minus our house.
Instead we said forget it we will find other advice. Instead we wrote to the Claimant’s back in September to ask for all the evidence, since then nothing has happened, but we currently still have a house.
I think this case was beyond them from the beginning and it would of been helpful if they had said that. Instead we are £11,000 down and no further forward than we were when it all started.

Overcharging. Avoid if you don`t wanna be ripped off. They`re scamming tenants even without guilty conscience.

The Fixed Price Divorce service from Brethertons provides excellent value for money. The small team are very professional and caring and treat you as an individual. You have to recognise that the team often require the specified 10 day turn around to get back to you but when they do guide you well through what can seem quite a daunting process.

From the first contact my matter has been handled professionally and sympathetically in all aspects. Explanations have been clear, responses have been timely. I have always felt like a human being looked after by other humans, rather just another number and a robot. This is very much appreciated. I would highly recommend.
