My case had been handled unprofessionally. It took almost 5 months from taking my case until my Consent Order was submitted to Court. There are so many mistakes and lack of care that has been made by the Solicitor who is dealing with my case, from making incorrect names on D81 to failure to inform how to send documents and collect them from my ex-husband, and failure to provide all necessary information. These issues can easily be avoided if there are efficiency procedures in place and professionalism you expected from the law firm.
I had first contacted them on April 9, and the solicitor who acted on my behalf was appointed on Apr 26, 2024. I have signed and sent off all documents on May 10, and I presumed that my case has been submitted to court in June, instead it was submitted sometime at the end of Aug 2024.
The only time I heard from the solicitor was regarding the FMH sale on July 11 and I did not have any update nor reply from my email sent on July 12 nor my emails asking for an update on my case on July 29. I sent another email on Aug 1 and received a CC email on Aug 5 sending to my ex-husband stating that no documents have been received by them. In the end I have to pay an extra £5 for the court fee as the fee has gone up since I paid this amount back in April. Moreover, it took me another week since she obtained all the documents as she failed to provide an invoice number in order to pay extra court fee.
I am very disappointed with them and hope they will review my case and make some improvements.

Awful divorce experience; don't respond to emails, they send generic stock emails that aren't personal- don't expect answers to your questions. They ask for information already provided and give misleading or incomplete (wrong) advice/ instructions. They also need prompting for them to take action; waited weeks for them to email a document until I called and got them to send it.

I was a little apprehensive when approaching the firm, as I thought it would be a firm that only cares about the charges. I was very wrong indeed. Dominic wisdom and Mel Haslam has been amazing. It was a very daunting time for myself and my children, but from the first consultation with Dominic I felt so supported. He listened and advised and I felt very respected. He understood the challenges we we were facing and gave honest advice. Both Dominic and Mel was so empathetic and understanding. It was like talking to trustworthy friends. They both showed such professionalism and at the same time would always be there for you. So there was never the stress of call chasing. Dominic always responded promptly and each time it felt like he has taken some of the stress of your shoulders. I am so grateful for their support. I would highly recommend Dominic Wisdom and Mel Haslam at Brethertons.

We needed to update our Wills and Powers of Attorney having set these up some years ago. With Amber to guide us through the process it was much easier than we anticipated. With her extensive knowledge she was able to simplify the process and clarify our options making everything fully understandable. A first class, speedy service that we fully recommend.

It was a long process and not good at communicating with the other solicitor on the opposing side. I was always left for a week with no response. I wouldn’t recommend at all.

In my case Poppy & Simon were allocated to support me in bringing my kid back home after unlawful retention of my son in the UK by his father. From the beginning the solicitors were very clear on the procedures and my options, including worst case scenarios. They always kept me up to date to a minute on every step, took their time to really understand the whole situation and to go through extensive documentation provided. Appalling company that has just admitted to me IN WRITING ('Strictly the matter should not have been progressed' and 'I apologise that the situation developed') they not only didn't carry out proper Anti Money Laundering checks but also sought to overcharge my company by almost £1500 to boot. Were a good firm of solicitors once. Now ? Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. As others have noted, seem to be simply interested in what fees can be charged.

I used Brethertons for a Consent Order only as part of my divorce. I used their Fixed Price package but had an added complexity that required a solicitor, so paid for some time from a solicitor. The Consent Order through the fixed price is drawn up by a paralegal and not a solicitor. It has taken about 7 months from start to finish. Some of the delay was because of Christmas holidays but mainly because Brethertons respond to every email 10 working days on the dot to any communication sent to them. The timeline was fine for me but if you’re looking for your consent order to be done quickly this may be an issue using the fixed price package.
There were careless typos and errors in the draft documentation prepared by the paralegal that added to delays and could easily have been avoided.
Lisa, the solicitor who dealt with the added complexity, was extremely compassionate, professional and understood fully my case and spent time talking with me over the telephone.
I did quite a lot of shopping around and taking advantage of the free telephone calls offered by many companies who offer divorce packages and chose Brethertons as a result of one of these calls.
Speaking to friends who have used similar packages with other companies, it feels Bretherton’s timelines and service are favourably comparable.

Sarah made the setting up of LPAs quick and easy. She kept us updated throughout the process and covered every thing so clearly that we did not have to ask many questions. Thank you very much.

The Lease extension was handled by Verity McMahon and went through without fuss.
