Haven't used VMWare workstation in 10 years. Went to download it, and Broadcom wants my blood type, name of my first born, and any future plans for procreation (of my business or hobby). And my physical address. Hell the eff no. I will find other sources to run Windblows under Linux (or *BSD).

Just let me download the software

I've been trying to install VMware this morning and to download it I have to create an ACCOUNT. Just let me download it, why do I need an account just to download a virtual machine? The sign up was absolutely terrible and such a pain. If you're looking for a virtual machine just install VirtualBox instead, you won't waste your time creating an account and signing in. On top of that, when I clicked 'Forgot Password' it just redirected me back to the sign in screen instead of actually letting me reset my password. How do you spend billions acquiring a company and can't even get a forgot password button to work?

What happened to VmWare

What happened to VmWare? We went from a $6k a year price tag for support to almost $100k for a simple 3 node cluster with embedded PSC, between Dell and Broadcom. Most of my stress comes from Dell and Broadcom's BS. Just today, was told me they wouldn't support our system that they installed, turn key. It's taken a year to quote us for support after the Broadcom shift and they upped it by a multiple of 10x. Absolutely Looney Tunes!!
I HATE BROADCOM and what you've done to our small business.
I know this will go nowhere, but at least I get to vent a little...1 year of support for a 3 node cluster could buy a nice starter home. Just sayin'

Horrible

Déjà les composants CI,microncontroleur,proc bas de gamme..
maintenant que VMWare est passé broadcom c'est horrible !
Tous les 2 mois, perte de 20min pour un OTP qui ne fonctionne pas 'internal server error' mais une fois passé par email, obligation de changer de mot de passe!
Expérience très mauvaise.. on comprend vite pourquoi beaucoup passe chez N...

Worst website in the history of…

Worst website in the history of websites. Impossible to find anything without direct links and forced password changes every two weeks is insane. Having to accept terms and services on every single download page is indescribably user unfriendly.

The website alone makes me want look at other alternatives to VMware and the new pricing helps pushing me to it quite a lot.

When a new company acquisition turns usability into an obstacle course

Words cannot describe how hard it has become to be a VMware Workstation user. The new owners have single handedly ruined what was once a great and user friendly product and ecosystem. Since the acquisition, they have managed to turn updating, downloading, logging in and even basic account access into an unnecessarily complex and hostile experience, requiring a PhD in rocket science, computer science and political science specializing in bureaucracy.

What used to work effortlessly now feels actively obstructed. Accounts get locked, password resets are disabled, usernames are unclear, and basic functionality is gated behind broken identity systems that even experienced users struggle to navigate. At no point does it feel designed for real people who just want to use the software they already rely on.

This is a textbook example of how not to operate a well established product. Instead of improving stability or usability, the focus appears to be on bureaucracy, account friction and needless barriers that offer zero value to end users.

The result is simple. A product that used to be trusted and recommended is now something I actively avoid. Not because the software itself is bad, but because the surrounding experience has been degraded to the point of being unacceptable.

Untergang für gute Software

Dieses Unternehmen ist wie eine entlaufene Kettensäge im Wald. Erst wurde VMWare für Endverbraucher sehr eingeschränkt, Lizenzen von zahlenden Kunden genommen und dann auch noch die Sache mit Bitnami. Viele Images wurden gestrichen, andere kostenpflichtig gemacht und dann funktioniert nicht mal der Login um an die free Images zu kommen. Ganz viel Abstand von diesem Verein. Große, geldgeile Konzerne sind widerlich, aber ich wünsche keinem Konzern so sehr den Bankrott, wie diesem, da dieser der schlimmste von allen ist. Es kommt nicht von ungefähr, dass immer mehr Leute/Unternehmen zu Open Source Software wechseln (müssen).

Absolutely utterly dysfunctional.

Absolutely incredible how a paid service and its web portal can be so utterly dysfunctional. It’s like the web pages, documentation, and the service itself don’t fit together. There is no heart and soul anywhere on this product’s website.

Do they really want to ruin VMWare?

I've never had a more frustrating experience than the ones I've been confronted with since VMWare belongs to Broadcom. And I'm talking about almost 30 years of experience as a software developer and computer technician...

I had three VMWare Workstation Pro licenes - all gone!

OK, OK, VMWare Workstation Pro is now free... BUT what's the use of it when you can't download it? Some months ago I managed to revive my migrated VMWare account and - surprise! - I even was able to locate the download.

Which took me directly to the next obstacle: I had to enter my personal data and did that - accurately! Then, I clicked the verification button and thought to myself: "Allright, this was a little complicated, but now I have my download". I was so wrong: "Account verification is Pending. Please try after some time." popped up after klicking the downlad symbol.

After having waited "some" time (= in my case a few months, because after a few days, more important things had come to my attention) I decided to try out the customer service by directly chatting with an agent. "In 24 hours you will be able to download", he wrote. Now, more than 24 hours later, downloading is still not possible. In the meantime another agent I had contacted today, has opened a ticket on my behalf.

But, after reading all the ratings here I have little hope of experiencing any functioning download from Broadcom.

If I were responsible for a web site in such a bad condition, I would´ve been fired years ago!

Absolutely unprofessional!

Pire expérience jamais vécu sur un site internet.
C'est très simple rien ne fonctionne, à commencer par l'authentification.
Je ne comprends pas comment ils peuvent avoir des clients vu que rien ne fonctionne.
Je conseille d'éviter autant que possible d'avoir à faire à eux, vous ne vous en sortirez pas vivant.

Broadcom

You have probably one of the best software I have ever seen ( VMWare ), and I have seen a lot.
In come Broadcom and completely ruin it along with the VMWare eco System, They make it inaccessible to 95% of the existing customer base, defies logic. Wouldnt be better to convert them, making it affordable as they are already embedded customers, generating $ 200 - $ 500 Million a year for doing nothing.
Now all those have migrated to XCP-ng, OpenStack, Proxmox or Hyper-V, millions of customers probably lost forever.
Its easier to keep existing customers than to get new ones, especially now Broadcom have such a poor reputation.
