Butlins Skegness the keys waves court 207
Honestly, if there was a minus star I would have gave it.
Family of five, upgraded to Gold accommodation at the apartment 207 The keys waves court.
Upon arrival the whole complex looked tired and in need of major TLC, dirty flaking paint, bird poo ect.
That said, we would give it a chance and surely it couldn’t be any worse inside, wrong!!
Exactly the same inside, paint flaking, stains on upholstery, mould growth in toilet and all over every window, damaged furniture, loose floorboards, and in general a complete mess and unhygienic!
Utterly disgusting, we aren’t snobs by any-means but honestly I can say hand on heart a dog kennel would be cleaner.
No other rooms available when asked, take it or leave it and submit a complaint I was told.
Not sure what other apartments are like but I’d avoid this complex for sure, perhaps the standard cheaper apartments are better but wouldn’t risk it!
Good for music
We had the worst experience ever!
There were ants in the kitchen, Living room, bedrooms and some on the coffee table!
The Go Karts took way too long and had waited there for an hour. The only good part was the mask singer and the music.
Also we up graded to one of the best and it was worse DONT GO
Inflexibility of Butlins to change location of Holiday. No more Butlins holidays.…
Tried to change location of holiday from Minehead to Bognor Regis for July 28th. Customer service said we couldn't do this due to a 70 day limit before holiday date. Their terms and conditions. We have 3 holidays a year with Butlins with our 4 grandchildren and elderly disabled parents. Totally in flexibility on Butlins part, even with availability at Bognor Regis. We won't be booking any more holidays with Butlins again. A parting of the ways.

Extremely Disappointing Stay – Poor Food, Unclean Room, and No Support
We stayed at Butlin’s Bognor Regis from 12–16 May 2025 and were extremely disappointed with our experience. What was meant to be a relaxing family break turned into a frustrating and exhausting stay due to a combination of poor food, inadequate accommodation, and a complete lack of effective customer support.
Our room in the Ocean Hotel had a heavily stained sofa bed with a mattress so thin it caused me back pain. My granddaughter had an accident on one of the beds, and although I requested clean sheets in the morning, they were not provided until late evening—after I’d repeatedly tried calling the helpline, which simply looped and told me no one was available.
The noise at night was constant, with children running up and down the corridors into the early hours. There were no staff available to raise this with, and again, no response via the helpline.
We had chosen the DineAround package for its advertised flexibility and value. In reality, the food was very poor—overcooked, grey chicken, burnt batter with barely any fish, limp salad, and meals that were simply inedible. Many food items were unavailable or not replenished. We were often told we were “too late” for breakfast despite arriving at the allocated time. I have photos of the food to support this.
We were offered breakfast at The Deck as a goodwill gesture but were turned away at 9:25am and told to go to the Beachcomber again. After several unresolved issues, poor sleep, and consistently low-quality food, we chose to leave a full day early, missing our last evening meal and breakfast.
I submitted a complaint and received a dismissive response. Despite clear evidence, including photographs, and an early departure, Butlin’s refused any compensation and instead offered a discount off a future stay. I will not be returning, so that offer holds no value.
Overall, this stay fell far below what Butlin’s promotes or what any family should expect when paying for a relaxing holiday. I strongly recommend others consider alternative holiday options.
Overworked stressed staff
Fire house grill … just arrived not knowing times of closing etc so came here. Man who ‘welcomed us ‘ said “ kitchen closes in 15 minutes so hurry “ slammed menus down run around restaurant sighing and rolling eyes when people arrived? Close doors half hour before closing so they don’t have to deal with it.
Red bar late again not knowing times etc and asked barman when they stop serving ? He said “ well I’ve not been told to stop so what do you want “
Burger King very stressed out people, over worked trying the best but I got the wrong order obviously by the time I was back at hotel it’s just not worth going back. First time here and the first night actually made me feel uncomfortable. Next day was a lot better service in beach Combe restaurant!! Fantastic food and service thank you and electric show made up for it but the atmosphere coming off of the service staff is crazy.
Awful from the moment we arrived broken…
Awful from the moment we arrived broken toilet.
we booked a food plan only to be advised there was nothing but steamed fish and salad available for diabetics we numbered 3 with diabetes after complaining we were offered £ 539.00 in vouchers for food, less than the package cost! rejecting the vouchers for a refund as is our right, as the same food would be available.regardless, they first stated they do not give refunds until I pointed out consumer law then tried saying it would be 28 days to refund I have repeatedly asked for and email conformation of this only to get a email for the vouchers.that were rejected I have now repeatedly asked to no avail for this conformation.
this has totally ruined our holiday we have decided to leave as soon as we get conformation as we have been advised by a member of staff if we leave before there will be no refund as this is common place.
there is no email address to deal with this just a number where it has been hard work to get them to send such confirmation
Nothing but a bunch of money stealing…
Nothing but a bunch of money stealing hobos.
Booked for a weekend trip. One of the party can’t make it now so wanted to just change the name of a guest. £20 fee!!! For what. Deleting one name and entering another. Have been told I am being made redundant so money is tight. I took out insurance so asked what I would get back for cancelling. Email
Back ( after two days I may add) confirming refund amount as £0.00. I am astounded and will have to go for the weekend but will be advising anyone I know NOT to book anything with you. Shame on you Butlins
Well done Redcoat Jayden
Well done Jayden! I heard about your journey from being a young boy at Bulins to a redcoat! You always have a smile on your face, confident and funny! Thank you for your welcoming spirit and I hope you all the best!
Rundown & Expensive - AVOID!
We took our 9-year-old daughter as a birthday treat... and wish we hadn’t!
The whole place was really rundown, with many rides closed and the ones that were open were only for a limited time.
The go karts were expensive and didn’t work properly.
The pool was cold & the changing rooms stunk of urine!
To cap it off, after eating an overpriced sausage roll from their shop, both my daughter and I felt unwell from it.
What a dump! Never again!!
I booked on a Justin fletcher tots…
I booked on a Justin fletcher tots break at Butlins Bognor Regis and to be honest I’m a bit disappointed. In terms of money I do think it’s good value for money, rooms clean, staff polite and plenty to do etc. but considering it is a Justin fletcher break I am disappointed in the lack of Justin fletcher activities.
Other than his show which was on one day there was nothing really with him other than some nursery rhymes with him singing, which was the same as when I came last year when it wasn’t a Justin fletcher week. The only other activities for Justin fletcher was arts and crafts and that was a let down. The arts and crafts had nothing to do with Justin fletcher or even a mr tumble theme or anything like was promised. Instead they just played a video saying well done your creations look great.
At the Justin fletcher show the merchandise stall is not in sight so unless you’re told it’s there you don’t know about it and they don’t tell you until you’re in the venue that it’s cash only.
The Snow White show new for 2025 was a complete let down. Being a Justin fletcher week again you’d expect it to be very kids friendly. No. It was innuendo after innuendo. I have no issue with this but the kids didn’t get it and my princess obsessed 4 year old was left upset and confused as she didn’t understand why the show was nothing like Snow White. I’ve never seen so many people leave half way through a show before. We also left after 20mins and in that time Snow White appeared on stage once. Other than that it was just the evil step mother. The show should be renamed.
My other issue was with communication when you see what actives are on and go to read the description there isn’t much information. So when I see the dino expo I thought great I’d take the girls. Thinking it would be some form of mini show as there was one last year when we came, this time it wasn’t and instead it was a photo opportunity, which I didn’t know because it is not communicated until the dinos came out and people started taking pics (just to say this wasn’t in the photo opportunity area, this was its own thing in a different location) by the time we managed to get to the end of the queue we were told no more people can join leaving my daughter upset. Seeing her upset the member of staff persisted to tell my daughter she can come back at the same time tomorrow for her picture without checking with us first, and we had alternative plans the next day so couldn’t come back - leaving my daughter who doesn’t forget a thing very disappointed again.
Then on the last night at dinner (we was dining in the deck restaurant), in the kitchen in full view of diners there were 2 members of kitchen staff who I assume must be in a relationship were all over each other. Again usually not got an issue with a bit of affection, but 1. This is a kid friendly place, they don’t need to see the PDA and 2. In the kitchen where food is being prepped and served is unhygienic and quite frankly just plain unprofessional.
The saving graces of the holiday were the Justin fletcher show itself and the swimming pool.
For value of money though I would definitely come back again.
Terrible - except the entertainment! (Bognor Regis)
We had high hopes about Butlins and we knew our 4 year old daughter would love the shows / fairground and Butlins characters (Rainbow, Billy and Bonnie bear).
We booked a mid week break to avoid the peak time as we thought it would be a bit quieter with most children at school. We wanted an apartment with catering facilities as our daughter is fairly fussy with food at her age so wanted the flexibility. The price was good for the 5 days so we upgraded to a comfort Plus apartment and paid extra for a balcony.
When we arrived it was a fair walk from our car to the place where we were staying and you could not check in till 3pm - that is when your key started working.
We went on some of the entertainment whilst we waited for the room and our daughter loved the small rides (for the young children) - the entertainment areas are okay.. bit shabby in places and could generally do with a clean up (removing rubbish and painting etc)
The large canopy covering the main area of the inside attractions is also fairly shabby if you look up to the roof - sticky tape holding it together in places!!
We could however live with this as these sort of items are not easy to resolve (except the basic cleaning etc)
What we were not so happy about was the mess - they call the accommodation
DO NOT BOOK ANY COMFORT APARTMENT !!!
The building are literally falling to pieces - wood is failing off the sides / rubbish all round (the only good thing was the gardening was tidy and nicely planted).
We had an apartment at the back from the main path and we had to walk along a new tarmac path area that looked like it had been thrown down - badly edged, tarmac all over the wood retainer. The apartments were very shabby bits of wood hanging off the edge of the building/rotten and unpainted wood in places.
We eventually got to the apartment which was on the top floor. We could see straight into the bedroom of the below apartment (so no privacy for them!) and climbed up the metal stairs - small passageway (which is covered in cobwebs / dirty carpet and needs painting then the entrance to 2 apartments. Key card worked okay and then into the apartment.
Carpet was not hoovered in apartment hall or lounge.
Bedrooms seemed okay on initial inspection as did the bathroom.
All windows were not good - broken handles so hard to close.
Kitchen acceptable.
Lounge settee not brilliant- dirty and uncomfortable.
Balcony really shabby - dirty & unpainted (why am I paying extra for this - didnt use as filthy !!).
Initially we thought we would not spend much time in the apartment so we could live with it. We would be at the shows and fairground / other sites (which were all very good).
It was quite depressing walking back each evening passed all the other apartments - some with men/woman outside drinking and smoking at the top of the stairs. The first night an apartment fire alarm was going off as one person had left the oven on and either gone out or starting drinking and fell asleep.
It smelt of burnt plastic and the alarm was going off for about an hour (whilst they all sat outside with the doors open).
The next morning we went to use the shower but it was blocked - so I took out the plug and there was loads of black hair in the drain which was removed.
We tried to get a room in the hotels on site that morning - and walked into the reception of the Wave hotel to ask about upgrading to any hotel on site (surprise surprise there was nothing available at any of the 3 hotels and several others had already asked)
We left the shower for a day or so until we had some bleach then gave it a good clean.
The maid service comes on Wednesday - and the shower situation was fixed by Tuesday night - we had a shower next morning.
We left all the soaked towels in the shower which were all wet due to the initial blockage and cleaning.
You would think these would be changed by the maid but instead they put them on the hot towel rail and turned it on.
We had gone out to go to the fairground and to see a show during the day and returned at 3pm to drop some shopping at the room.
On checking the apartment again the floor was unhoovered (and the washing up was not done - but they had made the beds / added new toilet roll etc)
We checked the shower room and noticed a large puddle of black water and the walls were covered in black ash. We eventually deduced that the maid had put the towels on the rail and turned it on and the water must have dripped into the electrics and blown the heated rail.
We packed our stuff at this point and left Butlins. This was Wedneday night (checkout was Friday Morning).
It was not obvious what to do with our keys as no help was available - so we asked at the Shoreline hotel reception and then gave the keys to the entrance guard and drove home.
A day or so later we noticed red spots on my daughter which we thought might be the start of Chicken pox - the doctor advised they were likely to be Bed Bugs
VILE PLACE! DO NOT BOOK WASTE OF MONEY
So, on Wednesday 7th May 2025 my daughter was a little bit sick a few times throughout the night which unfortunately went on the duvet cover so we had to strip the bedding through out the night, it wasn’t massive amounts it was just baby sick, and we didn’t see it as a problem as that’s what babies do??, the following morning Thursday 8th May, I rang guest services to see if we can get a replacement duvet and duvet cover and I wasn’t bothered if it was chargeable or not and the lady called Kelly Smith said she will go and speak to one of her colleagues so she put me on hold for around 5 minutes, she finally got back on the phone to me and told me we had to leave the resort immediately due to infections? There was no ifs or buts they wanted off the site there and then.. which is absolutely disgusting and it ruined our holiday completely after saving for months to be able to go on this holiday and to have the premium food package. I find it absolutely disgusting that they kicked us off site for my 18 month old baby being a little bit sick through out the night, so we packed our bags and packed the car up and demanded that we get the rest of our holiday refunded which was confirmed by Kelly that we would get the refund on exit once we handed the keys back in, we got to the security gates at the entrance/ exit and handed our keys in to then be told that the refund takes 27 days for it to reach my bank account! I wouldn’t recommend Butlin’s to anyone and I will make sure that everyone I know never ever returns to Butlin’s.
The rooms are absolutely disgusting, the carpets are absolutely filthy and it’s just not a nice place to be, the entertainment for the kids and adults is rubbish, so if your planning to visit Butlin’s I would think twice and go elsewhere!
Kicking us off site for my 18 month old daughter being a little bit sick but then host adult weekenders where 99% of people are off their faces on drugs/ alcohol, Butlin’s sort it out, ABSOLUTELY VILE PLACE
also, the parking is absolutely terrible, we went out to Skegness town for a few hours and then came back to report later in the afternoon noon and there was not one space near our accommodation, cars were parking in 2 spacers so we ended up parking miles away.
Bad management is killing a once great holiday
Minehead
Check-in is good, that's about it!I
First off, everything is shut on arrival days Mon &Fri all day! No fair, no swimming nothing. So your paying for 2 days you can't use anything! The shows are The same on repeat, very poor entertainment....nothing like it used to be.
The park is a shell of what it once. The fair, is barely a fair anymore. 5 rides are all that's left and they are dated. Dodge cars, carousel, helter skelter, mini tug boat and umbrella ride. That's it!
The site is clearly in need of massive upgrades, with large sections in disrepair.
The shows are book only and limited to those who pay for advance tickets first and then if you haven't booked before you arrived, it's all full.
The food shops are very expensive, as are all restaurants and takeaways with tiny portions.
Most things are pay to use such as the bike hire, gokarts, bowling and pool. These are very expensive.
Basically, anything they can charge you for they will.
This site is on par with pontins and that's not a good place at all.
The price they charge for these holidays are a rip off.
A Disappointing Shadow of What Butlin’s Once Was
I’ve just returned from a week at Butlin’s with my kids and wider family, and while we did our best to enjoy ourselves, I’ve been left thoroughly disappointed by the experience. It’s clear that family holidays are no longer Butlin’s priority—and it shows in every detail.
The accommodation is basic but serviceable, which I expected for the price. The bedding was clean, which I appreciated. But everything looks tired and run down, with little sign that any meaningful reinvestment has taken place in years. The shower holder was broken, the oven didn’t work at all (we had to cook everything with the grill), and the general feel is one of neglect. It’s the bare minimum, nothing more.
The most shocking part of our stay, however, was the state of the swimming pool changing rooms. Dirty floors, a constant overpowering smell of urine, used menstrual products left around, and absolutely no staff in sight to clean or monitor. It’s genuinely revolting, and unacceptable in a place marketed for families. The pool area itself is also in a state of disrepair, with plasters floating in the water. We won’t be using it again, which is a real shame because it’s meant to be one of the key attractions.
The funfair looks like it’s been frozen in time since the 1980s. That might be charming if it worked—but with rides closed and peeling paint everywhere, it just feels sad. The atmosphere is more rundown carnival than fun resort.
We had the all-inclusive drinks package, which was a waste of money. Queues at the bars were ridiculous—often up to 20 minutes—as they were clearly understaffed. Several bars were also out of stock on basic drinks, with “busy weekend” offered as the excuse. But this is Butlin’s—surely peak times should be expected and planned for? For the £250+ we paid for drinks, the service was frankly appalling.
Entertainment was another letdown. The headline shows you book are good—but gone is the magic of settling in at a club for the night, watching a mix of kids’ shows, family fun, and late-night acts. Now it’s: book a show, get herded out when it ends, and if you want to stay anywhere past 9pm, your only option is some gimmicky bingo and a bar that shuts by 11. That’s hardly the lively family atmosphere Butlin’s was once famous for—my local pub stays open later.
My honest opinion? Butlin’s has shifted focus almost entirely toward its adult and event weekends—the real moneymakers. Family holidays now feel like an afterthought. Why bother investing in family-friendly spaces when they’ll just be trashed by the next round of boozy weekenders?
This is not what Billy Butlin intended, and it’s certainly not the Butlin’s I remember. Tired facilities, poor service, and a total lack of care for the family experience. We made the best of it, but I won’t be returning.
Extremely disappointing – Avoid if you value care and compassion. Another money making machine.
We had booked a holiday with this hotel but unfortunately, due to an unexpected medical emergency we were unable to travel. I contacted the hotel two months in advance, provided full medical documentation, and requested a cancellation or refund.
Butlins refused to offer us any compensation disregarding the genuine circumstances.
I would strongly advise anyone considering booking here to think twice, as you will receive no empathy or support should an unavoidable emergency arise.
Appalling Customer Service
Appalling Customer Service - tried to alter the lead name from mine to my wife's and was told that the booking would need to be cancelled (no refund) and a new booking made in her name. Complete con.
WELL BUTLINS WHAT HAS HAPPENED
WELL BUTLINS WHAT HAS HAPPENED my children loved Butlins fond memories i have been coming for many years we always go in gold as its a short weekends or 5 days we have gone for even spent Christmas here in the past
We booked last min in April easter break with my 2 younger grandchildren We don't like going far so i was thinking Butlins is not far away.
Well i was shocked the 3nt holiday at Skegness was over £1000 with food no special que jumping or extra tickets we was looking forward to a few nights away with the boys and daughter.
Well the first thing was the accommodation it was dirty food on the floor rubbish in the bins the first accommodation had a ants nest in the whole place climbing over the furniture the kitchen tops in droves my daughter went back to the office to request a move they moved us 3 doors down still ants were everywhere in the kettle in the microwave the floors i would not sit on the settee i checked the bed lucky ants were not as apparent and were in the bedroom i could not sleep i was checking the bed with the light on it ruined my break.
PEST CONTROL this can be done painting the outside this can be done its going to end up too late and Skegness Butlins will and is becoming a eye sore with a bad reputation no excuse taking out a section at a time to deal with this issue.
Food Court the main site it was not managed kids were helping themselves taking food that would be wasted there was hardly any food left or it had been manhandled by kids not enough staff to supervise the food the food was poor watered down custard food was bland and was poor quality cheap cold the only place we liked was the gold court the staff were good under pressure but no smiles no wonder getting all the flack for what Butlins management are doing ruining the reputation over money we went home early i would not believe the reviews if i had not been myself ants wasps fleas bedbugs dirt self catering would have wiped all the food out not fit to consume food in the kitchens we are in 2025 not 1900 very sad Butlins has come to this
I just came back from a weekend away at…
I just came back from a weekend away at Butlins Minehead. We paid extra for a Lakeview lodge. We paid extra for early check in. We arrived in time to check in but was left outside the camp sitting in car in a que for 3 and a half hours. Once we were allocated our accommodation we dropped everything and went for a late tea. On returning there were ants everywhere. In our bags, food everywhere. We phone the services who told us that the place would need a bomb and spray. We needed to leave for 2 hours. As my husband and myself are not well we could not agree to spraying that evening, they said they would come next day. I explained I have COPD so I didn't want it sprayed. I asked to be moved but was told there was nowhere to put us.I was told by the lady on the phone the chemical was safe. When we got up in the morning they were in our bed clothes. All over kitchen
Everywhere. The manager came, he was very helpful. He was going to move us. We went to the other apartment to find ants on our belongings and bags. It ruined my holiday.we are home now and still finding ants. As the management say... No refunds. This holiday wasn't cheap. This problem is not going to go away. Place needs fumigating
Poor Experience at Butlins Skegness
Visited Butlins Skegness for Easter weekend and had a very disappointing experience. The website claimed there were plenty of free activities, but once there, anything worth doing came with a hefty price tag. The resort was overcrowded, and the food was poor in quality. Dining was slow due to how the DineAround package was processed at the tills.
On the first day, we visited The Diner while waiting for our accommodation. Although it appeared empty from the outside, service was incredibly slow. Due to our inclusive food and drink package, placing an order took an excessive amount of time, and our meals were dry, cold, and flavorless. It took over an hour—and multiple reminders—to receive our drinks.
The all-inclusive food and drink package was also misleading. Online, it seemed like guests could enjoy food and drinks freely across the resort, but in reality, many drinks weren’t included. The food policy was also restrictive — you had to choose a starter and main or main and dessert, which meant you couldn’t just grab a snack without paying extra. This completely defeated the purpose of an “inclusive” package. I would not recommend the DineAround plan.
Staff interactions were also disappointing. Many staff members appeared disinterested and unprofessional, speaking to guests in a rude manner and showing no enthusiasm, which was particularly disheartening given their interactions with children. In our case, staff clearly lacked understanding and patience when engaging with my son, who has learning difficulties.
I recently stayed at The fairground appartment, and unfortunately, the experience raised several serious health and safety concerns. The accommodation felt structurally unsafe, with uneven flooring that seemed unstable in various areas. The balcony was particularly alarming—there was a gap large enough that my son could have fallen through and become trapped if we weren’t constantly vigilant. Additionally, the balcony door couldn't be secured, as no key was provided. This was especially concerning since we were traveling with a young autistic child; we had to push furniture against the door to prevent it from being opened unsupervised.
The front door also failed to lock properly on several occasions—we were able to open it without a keycard more than once, which posed a clear security risk. The radiator offered no temperature control, heating only at one level regardless of the setting, and took hours to warm the room. Similarly, the towel rail was almost non-functional, making air-drying towels a more effective option.
Cleanliness was poor. Dishes were dirty upon arrival, some with visible lipstick marks and stains, requiring us to wash them before use. The room itself was also dusty, with visible crumbs and debris throughout.
Unfortunately, I won’t be returning to Butlins, as the experience did not live up to expectations and fell far short of the standard I previously associated with the brand.

In the iconic dance show in the reds at the start of that Barbados performance and Kenya performance I felt that it was quite racist due to the performance having black people only.but in the other performances f.e Sweden and France and so on they didn’t have any black people included. And in the Barbados performance at the start, they were dressed up as tribe-like people jumping between ropes and doing stunts. Then changed to Rihanna. Very disappointed
