One of your employees needs some driving lessons.

Down a narrow street with parked cars on both sides, instead of giving way to extremely close oncoming traffic, in his giant truck with trailer attached, he pulled out making it impossible for me to pull in to a sufficient gap or pass whilst also making it extremely difficult for him to pass without damaging my car.

To make it even more unprofessional he was laughing and heckling at me out of his window as he passed (to a lone female with children in her car)

This is not the image you want to portray of your company.

He was impatient and instead of waiting 2 more seconds for me to pass he swung out last minute to intimidate me, there was nowhere for him to pull in further ahead as he had a trailer, so there was no gap big enough. The manchild should have grown a pair and some humility to let others pass. What he did wasn't safe, was unnecessary and pathetic. Grow up and get a haircut.

Had a fantastic experience from start to finish from James and his team at Cornerstone. Punctual, professional and communicated clearly every step of the way. Paving stone job done to perfection. It only took a day and half from removal of old Paving slabs, concreting' laying new papers to finishing. I'm extremely satisfied with the outcome and would recommend anyone considering patio/ paving replacement.

Do not be fooled by the charm and initial professionalism during the sales process. Based on my experience, and those of others I’ve since spoken to, this company operates with a deeply misleading sales process and delivers substandard, careless work.

James appeared friendly and confident at the outset, promising that the quoted price was inclusive of VAT, that no payment would be required until completion, and that the team was experienced and well-reviewed on Checkatrade. He even pointed to their Checkatrade badge which was around his neck and website as proof. Reassured by this, we agreed to go ahead in mid-2024.

Once the job began later that year, the truth quickly unravelled.

I was suddenly told the price was actually exclusive of VAT — a 20% increase. When I challenged this, I was told I must have misunderstood, despite it being discussed multiple times. The claim about being on Checkatrade also proved false. They haven’t been listed on that platform for years, and nearly a year later, still aren’t.

I’ve since learned this pattern is common. The charm fades as soon as the contract is signed. Payments were then demanded in cash or directly to their third-party suppliers — despite initial promises of structured billing. Sometimes this would be directly on his phone, where I will urgently need to pay by card so that they can deliver the supplies. When I protest, James takes an aggressive tone and suggests any delays due to this are on me. Or that they will walk off the job and leave it a mess and incomplete.

The on-site team, though polite, were clearly not properly trained. They left the property in a mess and even entered a neighbour’s garden with equipment, damaging their lawn without asking. The workmanship was poor: bricks laid during heavy rain, smeared mortar that stained walls, paving mistakes that were corrected badly, and concrete laid without essential expansion joints — leading to likely future structural issues.

Communication collapsed quickly. James became rude, impatient, and at times borderline aggressive. Once the work was done, he stopped replying altogether. The “10-year warranty” he gave us is worthless.

This was an incredibly stressful experience for my family. We are now left with a defective, unsightly driveway and walls that are still deteriorating. Worst of all, neighbours saw the team working at our home and assumed it was a good recommendation — they’ve had the same experience and now wish they’d asked us first.

I would strongly urge anyone considering this company to look elsewhere. The false promises, poor quality, and appalling customer service are not worth the risk. I wish I had never engaged them.

Problem with the finished job. Patio slabs cleaned but the gaps were filled with sand and not sealed properly so the sand is now being spread over the paving slabs and leaving an unsightly area. I have called several times and left a message but my calls have been ignored. We paid good money and received poor service.

UNPROFESSIONAL & SHODDY

We were so impressed with James’s solution and his approach of “don’t pay until the job is done” when selling us our driveway.

The job had not been complete and we had been rushed to pay up in full.

On completion, the aco drain was drilled in the wrong place but they still used the same drain which has an extra unnecessary hole.

The finish on the wall is shoddy, ugly and looks laughable, rubbish finish.

We’ve now discovered that the reason for our driveway lights now not working is one of their workers have left a live wire exposed under the new fitted driveway.

Despite chasing James on text, WhatsApp and phone call assuring to sort this out from April, he has used excuses “I’m at a funeral” and just ignored us but only picked when calling from a different number and never returned to fix the issues despite keep saying “madam I will sort it”.

They even dumped their trailer for over two weeks infront of our neighbours property and cleared it in their own time.

Cowboys- do not use, find more professional tradesmen!

We'd called him to solve the water logging issue in our garden, lay the turn and re-soil the turf bed and flower beds. He suggested re-doing the driveway and gave us a good deal.
He & his team finished the jobs in 2 days, which we were impressed with. He marshalled his team well and the jobs were professionally done.
He has also given us a 10-year guarantee, which was one of the main reasons we signed up Cornerstone Paving Ltd.
