useless

honestly useless. we put in a school application over a month ago and have heard nothing back whatsoever. they don’t even answer the phone OR answer emails. “We’ll get back to you” is all the ever say and they never do!!! im in my GCSE year and it’s vital that i get into a school (i moved down to cornwall from Somerset due to an emergency) yet they haven’t updated us on any progress with the application, not even a simple update or anything. we’ve pestered them hundreds of times and nothing is helping. this council is utterly useless.

Careful who you let into your home

My ex partner went for a job with Cornwall council which involved being allocated a works van. He didn’t have a driving licence but told them he could drive. Did they check-NO. Did he have a criminal record for DV-YES.
He then had a fall out with a family member who emailed the council with information about his lack of licence. Was he sacked-NO. His wonderful manager gave him a light (metophorical) rap on the knuckles and he had to pass his test and then return to work. His manager also said he must have really annoyed the ex for her to have reported him (misogynistic!) As this was completely untrue I have attempted to get an apology for false accusations and also placing me at risk from a convicted perpetrator of Domestic Violence but no one has even acknowledged me-even the chief executive. Careful who you let into your home!

Leaving people in desperate situations

My housing situation has left me very unwell mentally. Any contact with homechoice they treat you with distain, like your asking for something completely unreasonable to be in a different home so you can be well. I have disabilities and have had a housing assessment done by a council OT, stating im at high risk. They’ve had it for a month and a half and not even issued me the forms to progress the welfare assessment any further. They’re looking for any reason not to help. I’ve now been referred for mental evaluation as I cannot sustain this any longer. I think if I was no longer alive, they’d just be happy they had an availible property.

ABUSE OF POWER AND FAILURE OF DUTY OF CARE ??

We all know affordable housing is a nightmare in Cornwall. When a private tenant is given notice that their tenancy is ending Cornwall Council will not take the final day of the tenancy as the date a person becomes homeless. It advices the person to refuse to leave and stay put (along with Citizens Advice Bureau). This costs the tenant a great deal of humiliation and stress and of course costs the Landlord a great deal in legal fees to go to court for possession of the property and instructing bailiffs ( a horrible experience for a tenant)
Only then will Cornwall Council consider emergency accommodation.
Landlords are not the enemy but sometimes they just need their property back. Some are what is called displaced owner occupiers.
Why should a landlord subsidise the Council for several months because they do not want to pay for emergency accommodation AND cost the Landlord legal fees. The landlord I have in mind is almost 81 years and wants his home back so he can sell it and buy something more suitable to his circumstances. When he goes to Court Cornwall Council will no doubt use every trick in the book to extend the tenancy. The tenant living totally on benefits will of course have legal aid.
Is it any wonder many private landlords are selling up. The Landlords Association believe this will reach almost 50%. Lots more second homes in Cornwall folks.

Corrupt to the core

Like most councils Cornwall Council is corrupt as they come. They are a corporate company, screwing over everyone they can.

They don't answer their phones, don't respond to emails, don't respond to legal documents and think they have power greater than god.

They are on the side of the devil and good will always win.

If you understand actual common law, you would realise that everything they do is illegal including parking tickets and council tax. Shame on the complete and utter corruptness and all those involved.

Wouldn’t even rate one star

Wouldn’t even rate one star. Ugliest council in the UK. Probably been brought out by private companies. Parking companies running scams in most car parks across Cornwall. No way to pay and fine you I you take more than 20 second to get a ticket. All tactics to make money and the council are in on it. Going on for nearly 10+ years now. You guys should be ashamed off yourselfs.

Cornwall council is run by some of the lowest life scum on earth. They have absolutely no interest in peoples well being or opportunity to work. They have recently closed down the Cornwall aviation heritage centre which was privately run and funded. They evicted the museum with just days notice as well as offering absolutely no options for relocation.

They Simply Will Not Pick up The Phone

I have spent and wasted most of my morning attempting to speak to a human being in Enviromental Management. You simply cannot get through on the phone. You are told you are first in line in the queue and then still waiting 30 minutes later. If this was the private sector they would all be fired.
Shambolic.

They don't care.

I've been on and off the phone for the past 6 days with yourselfs. I have been left with out hot water and heating since Thursday. I get passed from pillar to post and I've litterly just rang in to yourselfs again to be hung up on. This is outrageous behaviour. 6 days with out hot water or heating, with 2 vulnerable people who live at this property. Surely you have a duty of care to support and supply alternative equipment within 24 hours of this problem, I shall be making a formal complaint, I wouldn't even rate you 1 star.

Disappointing and frustrating experience booking residential car parking tickets. Calling the Council was a real low point, because all that the assistant did was read through what was on the council website (which I had already followed) but at 100 miles an hour, with no sense of actually helping any further. Its the lack of pride in Cornwall's services that really hurts. We're better than this aren't we?

DEMAND FOR PAYMENT DURING COVID LOCK DOWN

When a restaurant leaseholder was forced to close during lockdown we were told by phone not to be concerned about paying for the liquor licence, indicating self evidently everything was on hold during the pandemic. The tenant was told similar. And so it seemed common sense and abuntantly obvious that with no place to sell drinks, there was in effect no need for the licence. Wrong. A demand has just been issued to pay two years' back fees.
In other words a demand for payment for services NOT possible to receive. The tenant meanwhile, although having received covid relief payments, now tells me his business rates are being demanded for the period of an empty premises with NO BUSINESS.
When the tenant was forced to close, he said he could not pay the rent, and so I let he and his young family to stay there paying only the residential flat rent above, thereby losing £30,000 in rent over the two-year period.
People are at wit's end; and such unjustified Council procedures have been forwarded to local MP Derek Thomas to determine the veracity of such heartlessness. I hope to update this review.

Terrible council

Terrible council. Very unfriendly website and impossible to talk to. They actually don't seem proactive in their own county. I'm glad I have moved away as I wonder if they actually care about this beautiful county.

Shameful Council

I have an ongoing dispute over a parking ticket appeal on compassionate grounds that was rejected by the 'experts'. The second appeal would still be dealt with by the council so I paid the lower fee. I contacted the parking tribunal service afterwards who said that it should have been cancelled. I came back to the council with this but was told that the person I spoke to probably didn't know what goes on in the council. I have been sending emails back and forth trying to get an answer as to whether a housebound elderly person who falls ill home alone is more or less urgent than 1 who falls ill in the street. This was the basis of my ticket, the fact I was rushing to finish work to get home to the elderly person. However, because the council said it was 'not immediate' then it doesn't matter and therefore not urgent. I have now been told to drop the matter or face repercussions. Still without an answer to my question. This is the council that supposedly care about people.

Cornwall council absolute shambles

This is a review for Cornwall county council I have over the past 6-months had to deal with both the housing department and the tax department both departments give timescales neither able to adhere to them they simply do not respond to any correspondence you send to them. when you telephone them they are rude and incompetent and completely unhelpful. The people who work for the council have terrible attitude when you discuss matters with them and have an attitude of what do you expect us to do about it. The housing register is a joke every property is given priority to homeless only so no other families in Cornwall have a shot at getting homes. The council are not interested in trying to help people and families who are hard-working and paying taxes they only give priority and help to people who are homeless from their own actions such as non-payment of rent, anti-social behaviour, substance users, prison leavers etc. Basically if you are a decent person who pays your bills, works and keeps a roof over your head, if anything unfortunate happens to you (like in my situation where I have had a life changing medical event and am now disabled) the council will not help you in any aspect until you are completely broken and homeless and destitute. It was a sad day for Cornwall when all of the local parish councils closed and all services were put in a central Cornwall council system in Truro. The residents of Cornwall deserve better than what we are receiving from Cornwall council especially in view of the astronomical charges made and increases from them each year - increases each year and all we are receiving is a reduced substandard service from them. I wish they could be held accountable but even if you go through to the complaints department they are equally incompetent- they advised a investigation would be made and response within 10 working days I am now on working day number 30 and still 0 response.
