My least favourite Garden centre

Parts of Dobbies are very nice however, house plants…. Not great at all in some areas. Some are underwatered, others overwatered and some parts look worse than my potting area after I’ve spent hours repotting. The light near the cactus and succulents is abysmal and there’s been a flickering light in that area for months. My least favourite garden centre unfortunately.

Staff great, always very friendly, however prices leave a lot to be desired ! Went today to buy Round Up. The price Dobbies were charging is £24.99 & according to the signs, that was saving £15.00 ! Can buy it on Amazon, the exact same product for £5.00 cheaper than the so called reduced price at Dobbies ! Not impressed. Dobbies will lose a lot of my custom.

We went for a coffee at 4.10pm and as the cafe didn't close until 5.30 we thought we'd be ok and not hold up the staff how wrong we were. 6 members of staff leaning on the counters doing nothing we couldn't have coffee as I think the machine had been cleaned or disconected told only tea or canned/bottled drinks available. As I don't like tea I had a can of pop other people were in the cafe and all had ust tea. I think this is disgraceful if it had been 5.15 or later I could have expected this but we felt uncomfortable just being there as everything was cleared away. We have been in this cafe before many times and find the attitude of the cafe staff very rude and unhelpful.

So poor on many levels

Shocking place - dirty, carpets held together with tape, rubbish on the floor, gents totally unacceptable, yet they want people to spend money. Not going to happen as we won't be back.

Seems like the store is in its final weeks/months. Not a credit to the Dobbies name.

Dobbies Ponteland - an absolute dump

I have to wonder if Dobbies are trying to run this particular store into the ground?

It’s a dump! Tired, rundown and neglected - gaffa taped floor at the entrance, really gives a good first impression!!!!
It’s untidy and unclean - especially the loos (disabled loo is a health hazard)!
Stock is woeful}
Cafe is absolutely dire!
Food hall is pathetic!

You want to stick expensive garden furniture in a dump and expect people to come and buy?

We went 17.02.26 and a large area of floor space was like a rubbish tip…I’m assuming some part of a valentines display??? 2.5 days on from the event, it’s inexcusable that it was left like that…a dog/child could have picked something up and choked, aside from the fact it looked a mess!

I don’t know if the manager was sent to run it down, has given up or just doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing? What is clear, is that staff are totally lacking in direction and have no pride in their workplace at all.

It used to be fantastic, a great place to grab gifts as well as garden stuff and the cafe was always buzzing - now it’s like a morgue!

Dobbies, your customers deserve better than this!

I received a birthday card from Dobbies…

I received a birthday card from Dobbies as I do every year last year I was told you didn't get a slice of cake and a free hot drink for me and a friend you only get a biscuit? only on the card it clearly shows a piece of cake. so this year I went for my "free birthday treat" again couldn't have it because this time I didn't have the card with me??? I thought I would of came up on my dobbies card??? but no it doesn't so once again I had to pay for my "free" birthday cake it's a bit of a joke tho??? I do go occasionally to meet with friends who also have a Dobbies card and if I were to go every month it would be worth it

Poor customer service, get your priorities sorted

Every time you go in this store, there is never any staff on the tills, your store manager needs to learn how to use a till rather than use the tanoy to ask for more staff to help. The Waitros section is never stocked with anything helpful and over priced even for Waitros. Multi skill your till staff so they also can deal with parcel collections. I have witnessed customers walk out due to the length of the queues.

You will need to step up and change or you will end up closing like Gosforth store and many others.

After being to Dobbies Ponteland today…

After being to Dobbies Ponteland today with friends for coffee and cake it’s safe to say we won’t be returning! The whole place is a disgrace, run down and dirty. The ladies toilets were atrocious!
The queue for to just get a cup of tea/coffee was at least 20 minutes and when asked member of staff was asked if we could just go ahead of the people ordering hot food, we were told it was one queue!! Totally understand it being one queue but if you are only wanting a hot drink what is the problem when there’s a large gap in queue between hot food and hot drinks!!

Went to restaurant at Ponteland for lunch

Went to restaurant at Ponteland for a coffee to start us off. We sat with coats and scarves on it was so cold..! After shopping in the food section and garden section we were ready for lunch - however we decided to go elsewhere as it was too cold to sit and eat.... So Dobbies lost our custom for lunch and more coffees due to the lack of heating...

Cafe staff ruined the experience

The shop was nice enough, quite pricey as expected at garden centres. I was pleasantly surprised that they had vegan options but after ordering a vegan roast dinner and a kids plant based goujons, I was served real chicken. My daughter only realised after eating some. No apology was given at all, in fact the staff in the cafe actually blamed me and said that I asked for goujons. I explained that I asked for plant based goujons. I was practically barked at in response and told "we'll put you some more in". Accountability and a simple apology would have sufficed and improved the experience overall.

Poor

We have always enjoyed our visits to Dobbies in Ponteland but it now feels like it is closing down. Very little in stock.

Long queue for the cafe, staff were rushed off their feet and then after waiting 10 minutes they put up signs saying there is a limited menu. Which if you didn’t want cake or a drink should have said there is no menu.

If this is the new improved Dobbies after their restructure, we won’t be going back

I used to love visiting Dobbies at Ponteland, but recently, it feels like it's closing down. There are hardly any staff, lots of empty shelves, and no hot food available.

If they’re undergoing a revamp, it would be wise to inform customers about the ongoing work. Clear communication would go a long way in maintaining customer loyalty.

It's a lovely store but some of your staff in the restaurant really let you down, not one word was uttered by the person who served us behind the counter, so unless she was mute we found it very rude, we won't be back, no need for it, I've worked in customer service all my life, a friendly attitude is needed.

Dog Friendly?

I am a member of Dobbies and went to the Ponteland Branch yesterday with my little well-behaved dog. The store and cafe are supposed to be dog friendly but I was told by a member of staff that I was not allowed to stand in the queue with my dog to order coffee. No table service was available. As I was on my own I was unable to leave him with anyone and therefore had to leave without having my free drink for this month. Surely when a place advertises that they are dog friendly, you should be allowed to take your dog with you to buy your refreshments. What are you supposed to do?

Thank you

Visited Ponteland Dobbies this morning, would like to comment on the young gentleman who served us. He was so pleasant, appeared to be in training, is a definite asset to your business. Thank you Ethan.
