I chose to shop with this retailer specifically for their "Click & Collect in 1 hour" promise. Living in Portlaoise, I thought this would be more efficient than browsing the aisles myself—a quick "in and out" process. Unfortunately, the reality was the exact opposite.
I arrived at the store two hours after placing my order, only to be told it wasn't ready and to wait for an email. That email never came. Not that day, not the next. On the third day, I called and was told by the manager that there was a stock issue with one item. When I visited the store again to follow up, the explanation changed entirely—the manager then claimed they were too busy with incoming stock to process orders, seemingly forgetting our previous phone conversation.
It has been three days and I still haven't received the "ready for collection" notification. The "1-hour" service advertised online is completely misleading. If you actually need your items on the same day, you are better off walking into the store and picking them up yourself, as their online fulfillment system is clearly not a priority for them.
Extremely disappointed with the lack of communication and the inconsistent excuses.

Shop is closed despite what their website says. Just visited Wednesday 19th March 2025 at 17:50hrs and its all closed up with a sign and bell to ring for collection. But no one answers. Their website says they should be open until 19:00hrs.

I recently dealt with Valencia in the Portlaoise store. I was undertaking a utility/bootroom project. Everything ran so smoothly from the moment we booked the initial consultation. Valencia was so professional and thorough. She kept in contact to make sure delivery was scheduled and followed up to make sure it had arrived. We would recommend this service in a heart beat.. Very happy with the quality of the customer service and the goods.

I had just moved house in April and planned to have the kitchen remodeled later in the year. After seeing the 50% off sale at Homebase in July, I decided to do it then. I met with Valencia and she patiently walked me through the process, giving advice and making suggestions. She was so kind, as is all the staff I've dealt with at Homebase, and was so helpful. She even came to my house to make certain of the measurements of a tricky fitting. She was great at staying in contact with me throughout the entire process, and even following up after the work was completed. The kitchen was ordered and delivered at the end of August, arriving even a bit earlier than I expected. The store in the UK from where the products came were great at staying in touch. A few of the products didn't arrive but were reordered and delivered before the job was finished. The fitter recommended by Valencia was brilliant. There were several issues that arose due to existing problems in the house, and Julio patiently and expertly found solutions every time. He even went above and beyond doing little things to make the refit even better. My only regret was ordering the hob through Homebase because Gowan, the supplier they used here in Ireland, were very incompetent (no notification from them and delays which made the job take longer than necessary). Although Homebase was a bit slow in reordering the hob, I eventually received a refund from Homebase (very graciously I might add) and bought the hob at Currys. So I consider my experience with Homebase and the staff very satisfactory. My new kitchen is in and I am very happy with it. I have recommended them and would use them again for everything except the appliances. Thank you Valencia, Julio, and Homebase!

Valencia in the Homebase store Portlaoise was our consultant designer for our wardrobes. She was an absolute pleasure to deal with, professional and guided us through the process with ease helping us to come to the right choices for our new home.
Needless to say if you have been in our position and requested quotes for wardrobes by other retailers and design stores you will know that they are extremely expensive, but by purchasing our designer wardrobes with Homebase we paid a third of the price we had been quoted by others and saved a lot of money, delivery was easy and we hired a local carpenter who fitted it to a professional standard for a few hundred quid. Overall I would say we saved a couple of thousand on the cost for everything.
We are delighted with our wardrobes and the support we received from Valencia and the team in Homebase.

She then designed us a kitchen We bought love for a very fair price.

We recently bought a new kitchen at Homebase in Portlaoise. We had never done it before, so we were anxious not to make any mistakes. Fortunately, Marilou was very helpful and professional. She was very patient and understanding, and guided us through the whole process. Even leter, during the assembly, she was very helpful with some follow-up adjustments and helped us to solve some unexpected problems. Overall, the kitchen is of very good quality, looks amazing, and dealing with Marilou was pure pleasure.

HomeBase Portlaoise I cannot thank the staff enough in there. Chloe and Clare expecially thanks to you both so much.
You both went well out of the way to help me with a large paint order.
They gave me great advice and were very understanding when I made a few quick last minute changes too. Thanks for patience and understanding and a great deal offer also. I will be back.

Kitchen products arrive, left short counter top, kick board, cornice.
At my own expensive had to order and pay for another countertop..didn't arrive on delivery date, no phone call, i had to ring, it couldnt be found, arrived a day later..
I gave exact measurements for units, i asked to leave 4 inches free, she left over 10 inches short, again at my own expensive I had to order another small unit to fill the gap.. I was told 2 days to install, but due to all the mistakes made by person I dealt with, it has taken weeks..
Thankfully I hired a very competent carpenter and am thankful for his patience, his work is exemplary, very neat and great eye to detail..Thank you Conor..

Excellent service from the staff in the kitchen department of Homebase Portlaoise, Marylou designed a great kitchen design upgrade & the price was very reasonable for My Mother Marie, She is delighted with the finish, Julio the Kitchen fitters is a master craftsman & everything was fitted perfectly & no mess left behind, We would definitely recommend Homebase for Kitchens.

Kevin in outdoor plants area was first class, very helpful, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Gave me great advice on plants and planting. Great to deal with people who take pride in their work. Thanks Kevin. Derek, Abbeyleix.

The lift has been out of order for at least two wks now For the second time I sat there waiting for it for ages - it's not unusual for it to be held upstairs. It's not a great lift anyway. This time I was going in to plan and pay for my new kitchen so I lost time on my precious day off but Homebase lost a substantial sale. Not good enough. The staff at Homebase Portlaoise are always helpful and the garden centre produce is fab.

I had a really great experience at Homebase Portlaoise today. A lady called Joan (blond hair) helped me to find all the pieces I needed for a DIY project and got me a trolley when I realised I needed quite a bit of materials. She was very friendly, very pleasant manner and made my experience in there much faster than if I was trying to work it all out on my own. Then at the till I was helped by a lovely lady called Courtney (dark hair). Very friendly, very helpful and explained the return policy to me very well, in case I had overbought. All in all a great experience in Portlaoise today with 2 very helpful and knowledgeable ladies who are an asset to the store.

Marylou was a great help and very polite and knowledge when i bought a fitted Kitchen recently.

I’ve been using Homebase Portlaoise since the store opened. Today I wanted flooring for my entire house, I did shop around between 5 other stores that offered flooring Homebase came in the cheapest but apart from that the service and assistance from Joanne and Colm far exceeded the level of customer service in any other store we checked. We needed enough types of flooring to cover a total area of almost 100 meters squared and this took quite some time with them both helping from start to finished. I’m beyond satisfied with the help and purchase.

Marilou was wonderful to deal with, nothing was too big an ask and she gave me all the time in the world (even when I couldn’t make decisions)
Super happy with my experience and kitchen & will sure be back for the bathrooms and bedrooms!!

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Home base Portlaoise and it would be remiss of me if I didn't mention the exceptional service that Sandra provided in the lighting section. Her knowledge and natural friendliness deserve recognition. It was my very first visit to this store and, in fact, my very first review ever, however positive interactions like this deserve to be highlighted.
