seed great but may not want to order seed potatoes if you are in southern zone

I have always been happy with the seeds and equipment ordered from Johnny's but would recommend not ordering seed potatoes from Johnny's. This was my first time ordering seed potatoes and expected them to arrive earlier and still haven't received them.
In calling customer service I learned that they do not carry the potatoes themselves but need to get from a supplier and so aren't really able to ship when those of us in southern zones typically plant seed potatoes.

I would give them 0 star if I could

I would give them 0 star if I could. I placed an order for seeds and tulip bulbs last August (2025). I never received the bulbs. In the meantime I moved from the US to Canada and cancelled my US credit card. I called the company and the told me they were going to mail me a check to my Canadian address. I then received a follow-up email explaining that after talking to the manager of the manager they could no longer mail me the check. They could ONLY send the refund to my original US credit card that was cancelled. They are crooks. Stay away from them!

I've had positive experience ordering…

I've had positive experience ordering from Johnny's over the past 5-6 years.
The biggest issue i have with most online orders from any business is customer service support and receiving what I order.
I find the website is user friendly.
I am sorta shocked by the low ratings on review

Beware if ordering from Johnny’s Seeds…

I recently ordered from Johnny’s Seeds for the first time, and it will be my last. I called prior to placing my order to ask if overnight shipping was offered because we had landscapers showing the next day to seed and being late in the season it was important that I get the order the next day. I was told it could be shipped overnight so I placed the order. The guys were waiting for the order to arrive and when I checked the status it showed that it wasn’t scheduled to arrive for 3 days. When I called and spoke with a customer service manager, she spoke to me like I was somehow trying to pull one over on her, even asking what phone I placed the call from so she could listen to the recording. In the end she told me she’d refund me for the shipping but would not pay to have the seeds returned. I just checked the refund and it’s not even half the hefty charge that I paid. I paid quite a bit of money for seeds I can’t use and the overnight shipping charge - different seeds were planted that I paid extra for at the last minute - and she told me that next time it’s up to me to know to that overnight shipping on a Friday doesn’t really mean overnight. So if you order from them beware that if there’s a problem you as the customer will not be treated fairly let alone as a valued one.

If you value your privacy and hate junk mail, do not order from this company. They immediately sell your information to mass mailing companies, but they placed the blame on me for not opting out of something that I should be able to opt into instead of out of. Junk mail started arriving the exact same day that my seeds arrived--at an address that I RARELY use because it isn't mine. At least the seed order was correct, but they will NEVER see another penny from me.

POOR QUALITY

I've been growing corn for years with great success.
This year, I bought Johnny's seeds, and out of a 4ft x 8ft bed, I only got 4 ears that were big enough to harvest. Since I did everything the same as before, the only thing I can figure out is that they shipped inferior or old seeds. I definitely WILL NOT be ordering from them again.

This year (2025) I went to buy my usual order of $60-$65 of Johnny's seeds for my garden here in Sherman, Me. I was annoyed by a shipping charge of $23.50 and went instead to Burpee, bought same veggies for half the price -shipping was 40 % of Johnny's shipping charges. Germination rates proved to be the same...
Conclusion: Johnny's overpriced on both levels. when I asked why the representative of Johnny's offered me a discount if order was over $200. I grow this garden for my home use and spending $200 for seeds is not economically feasible.

I am shocked with the reviews on…

I am shocked with the reviews on Johnnyseeds. I have been purchasing 150-200 in seeds every winter for the coming year and just placed my garlic order for this coming fall. I find the quality of their varieties great and the genetics seem proven. I guess experiences can vary but I have never had a bad experience with them.

there should be an option for zero stars. this is a horrible company with horrible customer service. today's date is may 2nd, 2025 and my seeds were supposed to have arrived by march 31st. 2025. apparently they were lost in the mail.. ok.. i'll bite. after calling customer service and getting several morons that are more concerned with their pronouns, i still do not have my replacement set of seeds. i was provided with a usps tracking number by one of the pronoun centered cust svc reps, and after 2 weeks of waiting, the usps has told me that johnny's seeds, out of maine, which prides itself on being an employee owned company, did not pay sufficient postage for the package, so it is now in some dead letter office. after writing several emails and leaving several messages with the csr dept because it always goes to vm, i am relegated to writing complaints about this company and tomorrow i will have to start a dispute with my credit card company to get my money back.. fun times for sure. there is a reason this clown-show-of-a-company has 1.8 stars.. it sucks

Purchased 4 packs of seeds

Purchased 4 packs of seeds, 2 “Big Beef F1” tomato & 2 “Pantera F1” jalepeno. Used a Burpee 72 cell seed starter, used this product for many years with great results. This year, rather than purchase seeds a local hardware, decided to try a “premium” brand seed. Mid-March planted the seeds, 2 or 3 each per cell, same process I have used every year. Day away from May & NOTHING, only one cell with two tomato sprouts! Call “Johnny’s” said they recommend using “lights”, keeping the soil warm…blah blah. Don’t recommend their products

Possibly The Worst Seed Company

Long delays with shipping, ridiculous shipping costs, website glitch makes it easy to ship to wrong address, horrible customer service, and poor germination rates.

I’ve gotten zinnia seeds from Johnnys…

I’ve gotten zinnia seeds from Johnnys for two years. My last order was for 2 thousand seeds. The envelope weighed 2 ounces. I took the envelope to my post office They said it cost no more than $5.35 to send it to me. Johnnys charged me $15.00. That’s my last order.

Po-ato - Potahto but Car-rots don't rot.

Received Norland Red Potatoes after April 1. Followed directions for Greensprouting from Johnnys on line. Sorry to say cut potatoes separated and calloused are starting to rot in cool temp in garage under light per directions. It was an attempt. Johnny's seed experience through the past years has been plus and minus with success. I tried this and won't repeat ordering potatoes. However, I have great success with Johnny's carrot seeds in the past. I'm hoping the onion sets succeed. Luck of the draw.

Payment done product wasnt send no tracking

After a week of charging my credit card (still in pending and approved by citibank) they had not sent me the product because they required another payment method, but they had already charged me, when I contacted them they told me that they sent me an email, doubled checked my email and nothing. Very unfortunate that after a week they did not send me anything despite having collected the money and having the product available. Worse still that when I requested the cancellation they told me 4 times to give them another method of payment instead of canceling the order.

Don’t recommend

They failed to tell me I needed some sort of tax thing to be submitted so I had decided to cancel my order and they have failed to tell me about the information such as how long the refund process will take and if I will receive a email saying it has be refunded

Worst website ever

Worst website ever! All I want is buy some veggie seeds. I cannot check out owing to a "secure" check out. It says the password is case sensitive. OK. What does that mean? Try all caps, no caps, all small font, both small an large caps, add a number, add %. Nothing works. Worst company ever. I will never purchase anything from Jonny's. All I wanted to do is buy 4 packs of veggie seeds for $23 plus shipping cost. No thank you...

Will never do business with Johnny's Seeds again

Had Columbine Pink Petticoat in my cart, along with a total of $80 of other seeds, went to check out and got a message that it is no longer in stock and would not allow me to complete checkout without removing it from my cart. So, I did that and finalized my purchase. 3 days later that same seed packet was available again on their website. Went to buy the 1 seed packet and they wanted $6.50 for shipping ONE seed packet (Columbine seeds are super-tiny). Contacted support and they would not waive the shipping – no matter that their website forced me to remove it from my cart. Will never do business with them again.
