This airport has transformed from an…
This airport has transformed from an excellent place to a catastrophic one over the past few years. Those responsible for this airport should be removed from their positions.
In Terminal 1 C, one immediately notices a strong, unpleasant smell of cigarette smoke from the smoker lounge right after the security check. Apparently, the ventilation system is not working properly.
The only positive aspect of this airport is the staff, who are extremely friendly. One employee was kind enough to inform someone about the issue, and his concern was whether anyone would respond to it. I truly feel for those who have to work here.
Oh dear, what has happened to Germany?
Travelled from Munich T1 last year in September and thought it a horrendous experience but put it down to lingering Covid. Travelled Oct this year and it was equally appalling. Utter chaos - don’t waste money on priority queuing - it’s just as bad and there is no priority for passport control.
From leaving the check in desk it took over 2hours 30mins to get to the gate.
GIVE YOURSELF 3 HOURS to get to the gate.
Read the reviews - it’s true and avoid Munich!
What a joke of an airport!
Having flown out of the modern Bangkok airport it was a very poor experience leaving Munich. Very confusing and small directional signage. Crowded and dirty business lounge with not enough available resting chairs as lounge was totally full.....and this during the low season!!! Compared to the airports in Asia, this airport is sub-standard, and has little or nothing to recommend. If you do a benchmark with other international airports you will be surprised. Munich International Airport is a rather unpleasant experience.
Munich airport is getting worse
I live in Munich and unfortunately I have to say that the airport has been getting worse. Almost every time I fly from/to there there are problems. Today we landed on time from Athens on an Aegean flight but then had to wait twenty minutes to disembark because of problems with the jet bridge. The luggage was delivered more than one hour after we landed (Terminal 2 is always slow but not that slow). The S8 train to Munich was 20 minutes late and then it stopped in Ostbahnhof, instead of continuing to the town centre. This was announced by the driver only in German, which left all foreign tourists totally confused. Other times there were problems with the bus taking us to the plane and, when flying Lufthansa, constant delays.
Worst airport I have flown from in…
Worst airport I have flown from in years. The way they treat non-shengen passengers should be a national disgrace. Not brexit, as some suggest. at least if I were a Turkish national flying to Istanbul I could hardly blame brexit. No, this is just crap and indefensible. Would I invest in Germany if I had to put up with each time j leave? No way
What a disgrace of an airport
What a disgrace of an airport. Having flown out of the modern and slick Dublin airport it was a very poor experience leaving Munich after a fun couple of days at Octoberfest.
Having a UK passport was definitely a disadvantage having been treated like 3rd class citizens, herded into an area and queue for over 1.5 hours for non EU passport control with only 3 operatives.
Would i go back to Munich with this experience. NOT WITH A UK PASSPORT!!!!!
Stay away travel through any other port…
Stay away travel through any other port I bought duty free on whiskey in Toyko but munich wouldnt let through made me discard it no explanation the staff there we unhelpfull wouldnt answer questions about gate or facilities just shrugged at you even when you talked to them in German flights were late and delayed no explanations given prices in the departure area were alost like paying for another holiday so please avoid munich
What a very strange airport
What a very strange airport. Very poor and confusing directional signage. Abrupt and almost rude staff at check in. Once checked in you have to walk to another building for a 40 minute wait at security followed by another hour wait at passport control where people in queue were openly arguing with armed police about length of the queue and the time it was taking. Once through passport control, poor and confusing directional signage that had me wandering around the airport looking for the gate. When through gate, forced to wait in a stairwell for another 30 minutes until the bus came to take us to the other side of the airport. This airport has little or nothing to recommend it.
Trying to find check in for Easyjet…
Trying to find check in for Easyjet flight to Manchester.
Airport website suggested Terminal 1 sector D. Was then directed to Sector B to be told you can't check in there. Found someone who said go to sector Z, where we found the queue but totally inadequate seating.
Checked in then sent back to sector B. Again totally inadequate seating. People sat on the floor or on stairs.
Transfer bus was late. Security was reasonably quick. Immigration was speedy.
People and employers are ice cold and bad!
I was unfortunately born and raised in Munich. For me, the city has always been bad. The people are unfriendly, cold, arrogant, ironic, and racist. There is no life in Munich, only work.
I studied in Athens, the beautiful capital of Greece, and those were wonderful times. Unfortunately, I had to return to Munich after my studies, and since October 2023, I have been searching for a relevant job in communication and mass media.
So far, I have had very bad experiences because the employers here are ice-cold and carry prejudices against foreigners.
I wish I could have moved away yesterday.
The international terminal was a huge…
The international terminal was a huge disappointment. Check-in and security went fine and most of the staff was kind and helpful, but the facilities are lacking. It is small and cramped and people are all over each other and you are lucky to find a seat to sit anywhere. There are no restaurants, just a cafe with premade sandwiches and stale pretzels. The only shops are overpriced duty-free shops with candy and few souvenirs. Finding our gate was confusing and out of the way on the lower level where it was hot and no services. This was for Delta to Atlanta with 300 plus passengers, but it felt like I was in the middle of nowhere Africa. The bathrooms were cramped and dirty as well. I will avoid flying into Munich in the future.
Rude staff
Rude staff, 2 hours to get through security, inefficient directions in terminal which confuses Many people.
Will avoid at all costs in the future I'd advise others to do the same
Non EU passport control you are treated…
Non EU passport control you are treated like animals. Queue for over an hour with children and old people standing whilst EU line empty. Should be ashamed of yourselves
Don't pay for fasttrack ttrack paid for only to find they…
Fasttrack paid for only to find they filtered all parents with buggies into the fasttrack lane, so fasttrack was aot slower than the normal line, crazy
Do not lose anything at Munich airport
Do not lose anything at Munich airport, ever!
I had the unfortunate experience of misplacing items at Munich airport on three occasions (I get very tired and forgetful travelling!).
The first was a suit bag that I left in the baggage pick up area. Figuring that it was a good bet that it would end up in lost and found I notified the airport within a few hours, and returned to airport the next day to inquire in person, only to be told that there was no sign of it. OK. I thought that perhaps another passenger had taken it...though it seems unlikely.
The next item as a coat that I left in a rental car that I returned to the airport. When I inquired with the hire car company they informed me that they send lost and found items to the terminal. When I inquired at the lost and found office the staff member casually implied I was an idiot for thinking it would show up, because "it's cold outside".
Then, in a last ditch attempt to give human decency, or at last basic competence a chance I went to the lost and found when at the airport for my return flight. I used my iPad to show them the items I had logged on their system None of my items had shown up.
In a pique of frustration I stormed out of the office. And, of course, I had left my iPad behind. By the time I realised I was already on the plane. Before the plane pushed back I checked the location of the iPad using the find my app, and it showed up in the location of the lost and found office.
But, of course, when I sent an inquiry to the lost and found office about the iPad, I was told that it hadn't shown up.
There is something seriously wrong with the staff at this airport. Not sure if it's incompetence or low level criminality in play. Even if the items were somehow genuinely lost the indifference of the staff was breathtaking.
I will fill out my insurance claims and avoid this airport at all cost for future travel.
Best avoid this airport if you can
Best avoid this airport if you can. Arrived @9.30 to depart to Heathrow and it took nearly 3 hours to get through. 1 person on B A check in. Then through to security, aggressive, rude staff. And just when you think you are finished, other end of airport for passports to then be scanned. 4 staff on and hundreds of passengers waiting. Flights were going and passengers still waiting to be checked in. JOKE
Another disappointing experience
I fly frequently through Munich airport, and dread it each time. Airport staff are not bothered, borderline rude, information is confusing and there are frequently huge delays and chaos with bagage. Today we were meant to fly Air France to Paris. The man at the Air France desk practically glared at us saying he was airport staff and had nothing to do with AF, and could not help us at all with queries regarding the onward train travel in Paris (rail and fly). The AF flight was delayed by more than an hour because Munich ground staff bagage handlers were unavailable, and to top this off, our luggage never arrived in Paris. AF staff on the flight and in Paris were very helpful, but Munich airport and it's staff is seriously shambolic.
Incompetent, obnoxious, indifferent security staff
Flying to Dublin after a Coldplay concert in Munich, we departed from Munich International Airport. The security staff were inefficient, incompetent and intentionally indifferent.
We were going through security check 9 in Terminal 2, at approx. 2pm. The queue moved painfully slowly; we eventually realised why. To begin with, the two staff members had no organised system for screening the bags. Then on top of that, when they decided a bag needed to be opened, they stopped the full conveyor belt, rather than one taking the bag to the side and the other continuing with the x-ray screening.
The couple next to us were very close to missing their flight. They were waiting for their bag to come through the x-ray next when the staff asked for another bag to be opened, stopping all other luggage from being screened. The couple explained their situation and politely asked if the other security staff member could check their bags. The response: the lady checking the opened bag pulled a face, shrugged her shoulders (twice!) and pulled the opened bag back closer to the x-ray machine to ensure she blocked all luggage from being screened by her colleague.
I’ve travelled through airports all over the world; this was the worst encounter I’ve ever had with security. Incompetence coupled with a mean-spirited, obnoxious arrogance.
Munich Airport Shambles
"Flying is stressful enough without the ordeal we experienced at Munich Airport yesterday. After an incredible Adele concert, our journey home turned into a nightmare. Check-in and security took a staggering three hours. The process was painfully slow, with staff seemingly indifferent to whether passengers would make their flights. Excessive scrutiny of families and children was particularly frustrating given the limited time before boarding. It's clear that a drastic overhaul of security procedures is needed. The airport could learn a lot from Adele's concert organizers, who managed a crowd of 80,000 flawlessly."
Do everything you can not to use this airport
This is a terrible airport. The staff at the check in desk and security were lovely and helpful, however that is where the positives end.
The signage is non-existent, unless we asked a member of staff where our gate was we wouldn’t have had a clue. We had to walk outside for some strange reason to go to a different section.
The security video says you can put your electronics in your bag, turns out you can’t because we were asked to remove them and put them on a tray.
We then had to walk for 10 minutes to go to an unnecessary passport control instead of having it checked at the gate like any other sensible place. The queue was incredibly long, people pushing in and jumping the queue out of desperation and the police couldn’t care less.
There were around 7/8 stations where police were meant to be checking our passports, however for a significant amount of time there were only two police working at them.
We only just got on our plane with about 5/10 minutes to go, when we should have had time to eat etc.
All in all a disastrously organised place, very disappointed with passport control police who frankly didn’t seem to care. If you are planning to come to this airport my first recommendation would be don’t, but if you must come about 4 hours early just to be on the safe side.
For a nation that’s known for its efficiency, I’ve never seen anything less efficient in my life.
