AMAZING WEEK

I cannot recommend this enough! WE went over to Marrakesh - firstly the villa was out of this world and secondly the attention to detail for your personal journey was second to none! Gee and Tom were incredible trainers, tailor every motion to suit you and your goals, Toby the nutritionist made the BEST food and the whole experience was fantastic. FYI I am not fit - but it doesn't matter! They make it perfect for everyone, really fantastic week, roll on next year XX

Best Week away at No1 Bootcamp Norfolk

On a whim I booked a week away at No1 Bootcamp in Norfolk and I'm so happy I did. It was probably one of the most refreshing, fun and motivating breaks I've ever had. The entire team at No1 were incredible throughout the whole week, they were professional and made it such a fun experience. The trainers were supportive but also pushed us to get the best possible results. The food was great, and didn't find myself getting hungry. The training was varied and was really enjoyable, we had a great group as well. I cannot recommend No1 Bootcamp enough, its excellent value for money and I've never felt better. Huge thank you to everyone who made it such a fantastic experience, I will be returning again soon!

Professional and fun

I went to No1 earlier this year in a bid to remotivate myself in relation to exercise. I had heard and was expecting good things but my expectations were actually exceeded by the experience. I am in my mid-forties and the trainers listened to my comments about low energy and recovery, and adapted the programme accordingly for me, pushing me much further than I would push myself but taking into account my age and fitness. I was worried about the amount of exercise but it was mixed up really well and I particularly enjoyed the hikes and the outdoor weights sessions. The trainers could not be more professional and attentive. I was with a great group of completely mixed ages and abilities yet we all enjoyed the sessions and upbeat attitude of Tom and Head trainer Gee in particular.

During my week I realised that some of the beliefs I have about my fitness and weight were worth challenging, not something that will change overnight.

I think you have to be realistic about what results you can healthily achieve in a week. I lost 4lbs of fat and I was delighted with that. The food is great and nutrition is a big part of camp I was never hungry.

A fab week at No1 in Ibiza!

I had a fantastic week at No 1 in Ibiza. The food was delish, the villa was gorgeous and I met a lovely bunch of likeminded people.

The workouts are tough but fun and we were all so proud to say we’ve done it all at the end of the week!

I lost a good few pounds of fat and put on a few pounds of muscle which I was really happy about. I’ve left feeling motivated to keep up the good habits I’ve formed this week!

I couldn't recommend No.1 Bootcamp more highly! It's amazing.

I went to bootcamp having put on a lot of weight at my previous job, I was really unhappy about how I looked and also how I felt.

I decided to go for two weeks to get away from London and have some me time and what an amazing decision this was! I left camp feeling incredible both mentally and physically.

I lost 9lbs while at camp and a further 6lbs in the weeks after I got back. I met some amazing people and actually loved every minute of my time there. Each day I felt like I had really accomplished something and was moving one step closer to my goal.

The support of the trainers and the camp manager Jodie was amazing - each workout meant that it was suited to people with little or no fitness but also allowed those who worked out regularly to push themselves. I work out 5-6 times a week anyway but because of drinking and dining out i couldn't loose the weight. I loved the different types of sessions we did and was pushed at every opportunity.

the food at camp was amazing and although you are hungry (for obvious reasons) it makes it a lot easier when the meals you are enjoying are delicious and fresh.

I couldn't recommend No.1 Bootcamp more highly to anyone looking to increase their fitness, loose weight or just take some 'me' time.

Thanks for taking the time to leave this review Megan. We are delighted that you found the camp such a positive experience and its really good to know that even for gym bunnies like yourself, you can still achieve incredible results in a week. We often hear that clients continue to lose weight in the weeks after camp as the body continues to reap the rewards of the fitness programme. The trainers really enjoyed having you as your enthusiasm and endless energy was infectious and really helped the group's spirits come rain or shine. Look forward to seeing you again soon :)

Had some of the best weeks in my life with No1 Bootcamp

I did two bootcamps this year: One week in their base in Norfolk and one week in Ibiza. And I will definitely make my way from Germany and do it again rather soon!

Both bootcamps were awesome: I've experienced 5 different instructors (Danny, Ben, Tom, Gee, and Paul), each one of them very knowledgeable and absolutely dedicated to his job. Despite the military background most of them have, no shouting at all, just pure motivation and inspiration (hey, you might want to impress these guys). And they were all very friendly (and partly very funny) guys, just like the rest of their staff, like the camp managers, the chefs or their founder Deena. You’ll find people there who care about your journey.
Also, the campers were lovely people, so you‘ll have a wonderful group experience if this is your thing. Perfect if you don't want to travel alone.
So you can really enjoy a week (or more) away from your everyday troubles, and a true reset of your life.

As for the quality of the nutrition and training:
Personally, I've managed to lose a lot of weight during this year also without the bootcamps. So for me, they were mostly for refining my results, for getting stronger and healthier, for getting more knowledge, and most of all, for uplifting my motivation after some private issues. So my goal was not to lose lots of weight, as I'm very close to my desired goal anyway and can't expect big numbers. Nevertheless I did, and especially my Ibiza result with more fat loss than actual weight loss (while gaining muscle mass) was awesome. They measure it very exactly using the Inbody system.

Loved the food in both camps. They have different portion sizes, depending on your gender and goals. And they can adjust it. I never felt starved or too weak for training. Only problem: most dishes were just too delicious, so it was a shame not to have more of them. You get an idea how good healthy feed can taste, and that you don‘t need a big pizza and lots of calories to have enough energy for hard workouts. A nutrition talk at the end of the week gave us even more knowledge and strategies how to continue. Some dishes and especially the food schedule and the snacks were a good inspiration for the time at home.

As stated above, the trainers were very motivating, and always adjusting the training to the needs of their clients, by showing lots of progressions and regressions. All abilities are in the same group, and they make the group form a supportive team, with mutual encouragement. Everyone in their own pace, and the stronger ones just do more.
Especially their chief instructor Gee justified why he’s in exactly that position, and I would absolutely trust this guy. He was very keen about any potential health issues (you send them a form in advance anyway), he gave me some really good advice during our initial talk and during the first day which help me indeed to avoid some muscle soreness issues from the start which I had experienced prior to that bootcamp. He explained everything, even the running, with a strong focus on safety and how to do any movement in the correct way. Also, during the nutrition talk, he advocated a healthy body fat percentage instead of going as low as possible. And as I was a weak hill runner in a pretty fit group, he told us repeatedly not to compare us against the others. He even joined me at the end of the group during one morning run when I felt very frustrated inside, telling me when to run and when to power-walk, and just did the same. BTW also during the hikes, there’s always one of the instructors at the end of the group.
The training is varied and your schedule isn’t exactly the same everyday, also Ibiza and Norfolk were different, due to the environment. You can expect mobilisation, running, circuits, HIIT, strength training with your bodyweight, dumbbells or barbells, long hikes, boxing, yoga, stretch, and spinning (Norfolk), swimming (Ibiza), stair runs (Ibiza), or beach workouts (see what you can do with a towel and a partner).
After the hard days, you can treat yourself by booking a massage. I can recommend the massage therapist from Norfolk as well as the one from Ibiza.

After each of both camps I felt a lot fitter than before. Even though it is a physically hard week, you don’t leave tired at all (as I would have expected), but instead very energised.

The locations:
To be honest, in that one week with all that hard training and lovely people, the actual location becomes almost unimportant. Nevertheless, the villa in Ibiza has been absolutely stunning, with a mix of luxury but also a certain simplicity and pureness, in a lush, green environment. Norfolk is more like what I would call cosy, a place to feel at home, in a certain way, and the landscape rather similar to what I have at home as well, but also beautiful and close to the sea … you just won‘t have a beach holiday there!

Only a little bit that could be improved: It would be awesome if the payments could also be made via PayPal or bank transfer, not only by credit card.

I have been to the Norfolk, Ibiza and Marrakech locations and they are all fantastic. The training is the best you will find out there and the food is INCREDIBLE to say the least. Experience your own truth at no1bootcamp

My first experience of boot camp was September 2018. I was scared but need not have been. Between the top trainers, gracious centre manager, cleaning staff and the chef, I had a fantastic time seriously !!!
Firstly I was pushed well and truly out of my comfort zone by two rather charming trainers on a daily basis. Secondly the gracious centre manager ensured that my every request was granted to make my stay pleasant. Thirdly the chef made food so finger licking delicious, ninety eight marriage proposals arrived at camp during that week. Ninety seven were from me. It is worth a visit. No one said it was easy but let me tell you this. How do you actually know what you can achieve if all you do..is the same thing? The feeling of being toned, eating well, the education of good practice and getting into a routine will serve you well.
I am on my second visit 23/11/2018

Thank you so much for sharing your feedback Angela. We're delighted you overcame your fears and had such positive experiences during your two visits to No1. We understand a new environment can be daunting, as can the challenge of our training programme. Therefore we place a lot of emphasis on our team to support clients throughout their stay so are delighted that you felt looked after whilst with us.
We're fond of our chef too! We know how important food is whilst on camp and firmly believe that healthy can still be tasty. Good luck with your success off camp and of course we'd be delighted to have you back any time you need our help with your wellness journey.

Do not use!

On the 15th May 2013, I booked to attend a 2-week Boot Camp trip in Ibiza, commencing on the 18th May for a cost of £2,000.

I found the company details, No 1 Boot camp searching on Google for ‘Boot camps in Spain’ and I spoke to Karen Mackenzie via email to make the booking and paid with my credit card, providing my credit cards on email. The boot camp was based in Ibiza however the company also held boot camps in the UK. The boot camp had been featured in various newspapers and magazines showing pictures of celebrities who had attended the Camp, which included celebrities from reality TV show The Only Way is Essex and Made In Chelsea. Publications in which No 1 Boot Camp appeared, as recently as 27th May 2014 in OK magazine and has also included; The Daily Mail, Best, Ok and Closer magazine.

I left the camp after one week. I had felt sick and dizzy every day and after consulting with my Dr. at the end of the first week and explaining the food that had been provided at the boot camp, my Dr. advised me not to continue, as the diet was not appropriate for 5 hours of exercise per day. Further, being a vegetarian it was clear that the ‘chef’ did not possess the knowledge in relation to what type of foods I should be given. When I asked whether he was a qualified chef he said that he wasn’t but that he took an ‘interest’ in nutrition and had worked in restaurants.

I was also told that being a ‘vegetarian’ was ‘not normal’ and asked whether I had an eating disorder in front of the whole group. I did not/do not have an eating disorder but I imagine if someone did have and they were asked that question, it would have been extremely dis-stressing.

At the ‘weigh in’ at the end of week one, I had gained weight. The weight gain was not my main concern. My main concern was that I was feeling so awful everyday; I am a 37 year old female who considers herself fit who runs every days and goes to the gym and is someone that pushes herself. I felt so ill to the point that I would have to miss sessions and ended up taking to my bed. None of the trainers came to check on me.

Further, the food being given was not appropriate for my needs and I was concerned that no medical information had been taken prior to commencement of the boot camp of indeed throughout my stay. Even a basic blood pressure test was not performed on any of the clients by the trainers. One client was an asthmatic and I was very concerned at the fact that the trainers did not seem to adapt any of the training for her needs. She struggled in most sessions yet the mentality of the trainers was to ‘get on with it’.

Another lady had damaged her foot yet she was told to carry on with the exercise; at the end of the week she had to go to hospital.

Another worrying issue was that once the trainers had left for the day, there was no point of contact for any of the clients. No one from the company was based in what was essentially a villa. From a health and safety perspective this concerned me.

The way in which the camp operated was extremely unprofessional. One of the trainers left the room of one of the guests one morning having stayed the night and apparently from speaking to some of the clients who had been at the camp a few weeks; it was normal behaviour for trainers to sleep with clients.

A hotel referred to on the website and pictures of which were displayed on the website was the Atzaro hotel, a nearby 5 star hotel. This gave the impression to me at the time of booking and to the other clients, that this was the accommodation that we would be staying in.

These pictures and reference to the Atzaro have since been removed from the website. The actual villa address of the boot camp is not given on the website and it is suggested when you book, that you use the ‘resident taxi driver’, who will pick up and drop off from the airport in Ibiza, therefore the address of the camp/house, is not know until you arrive in Ibiza.

On returning to the UK I made a claim against No 1 Boot Camp for a one- week refund on the following basis:

- Misrepresentation: The Defendant has made false/misleading statements about the service they offer, including the use of a different chef to the one advertised, the chef has not a qualified nutritionist and did not catering for vegetarian/vegan diets.

- Performance: The Defendant failed to help me achieve
the weight loss and to provide me with adequately nutritious meals bearing in mind my specific dietary needs, which in turn caused me to be ill every day.

- Failure to exercise reasonable skill and
care (s.13 Supply of Goods and
Services Act 1982): to include non-completion of a medical/fitness assessment and nutritional care resulting in illness every day; feeling faint and no energy etc.

I made the claim on the 12th June 2014 after writing to the Director Karen Mackenzie listing my complaint and the reasons why I had to leave the camp based on my doctor’s advice. I received no response to my grievances.

In a letter dated 11th June 2013 (received on or around the 13th June 2013) from Carter Clarke Financial Recovery, I was informed that a resolution was passed at a meeting on the 6th June 2013 attended by the creditors and the Director Karen Mackenzie to place the company, No1 Boot Camp into Voluntary Liquidation.

I was advised by the liquidators that there was no point trying to reclaim any funds back via the liquidators, as there were no assets within the company.

The company is trading under different names & continuing to trade under the name No 1 Boot Camp, a liquidated company.

After receiving the letter from Carter Clarke, I was surprised to note that the website was still active and when I called the company they were still making bookings.

When I spoke to the liquidators they stated that there is a loophole in the law that simply allows companies to change names and re-open using a different name. When asked whether the company is being properly investigated in terms of not having assets to pay creditors such as myself because in my view it was likely that booking fees were going straight into the bank account of the Directors, I was told by Carter Clarke that this was very difficult to investigate.

After investigating into the company details on the Companies House website myself, it appears that the company has changed its name a number of times (please see the table below) whilst still advertising itself as ‘No 1 Boot Camp’.

To an unsuspecting client, it is not clear from the website that the company name has changed numerous times or indeed that ‘No 1 Boot Camp no longer existed. The only way that this would be discovered, is when you click into the terms on the website and you can see that the company is now called ‘Worldwide Health Retreats’ and is registered in Gibraltar, a known company tax haven.

I am aware of other clients who tried to claim monies back following their experiences, yet were unable to do so successfully.

In the period since 2008 to 2014 Karen Mackenzie has been involved in 4 companies either as Director and/or Company secretary which has essentially been the same company, No1 Boot Camp, but with various name changes and changes to company registration details.

I am concerned that for unsuspecting people looking to book a boot camp in the UK or in Ibiza have absolutely no idea what the status of the company is that they are booking with or that No 1 Boot Camp does not exist as a company.

Due to the lack of health and safety measures and all the other concerns over how this boot camp has been run, if anyone has to make a claim against the company, they are going to be totally unaware of the unlikehood of being able to receive any damages. I certainly would not have booked a trip with a company advertising themselves as a company that has been liquidated and one which has the history such as theirs, including the fact that the company in one of its former guises has been struck off the Companies House register.

Since I booked my trip, No 1 Boot are still trading as No 1 Boot camp and their website is still called the same name. You would have no idea as a potential client that this company does not legally exist.

The company is now registered in Gibraltar. The company states in clause 16 of its terms that an agreement shall be construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. They also refer in the terms to their ‘head office’ being based in London, however for the purposes of any claim made against them, the unsuspecting client is probably not going to realise that a claim is likely to be more difficult against a firm offshore and registered in Gibraltar.

I never received any compensation for my suffering or indeed any type of refund, however I have provided this information in the hope that this can protect future consumers looking to book a boot camp with what they would believe to be on the surface a reputable company.

We’re very sorry that our first review on Trust Pilot was such a negative one.

Of course we are disappointed that this particular individual had such a poor experience in 2013.

However, there is little merit 5 years on to respond to each of her many points as our business model and staff have changed beyond recognition since then. It is also crucial to point out that we are in our tenth year of business and have had helped thousands of satisfied clients across the UK and Europe achieve success with their weight and fitness.

We pride ourselves on nurturing strong relationships with our clients and many return regularly for fitness refreshers and ongoing help with their weight management.

Senior members of the No1 team are available daily in the camps to ensure a strong sense of customer experience and trust that any issues will be swiftly and positively resolved within the best of our abilities. We take all feedback constructively and use it to enhance our consumer experience.

With regards to nutrition, our in house chefs cater for all dietary requirements including vegans, vegetarians, pescatarians etc and accommodate any allergies our clients may have across all our camps. We take the health and safety of our clients seriously and have strict policies in place with regards to these matters.
