Consumer Rights Act 2015 and WH Peacock
This auction house evades most of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 by offering online and physical attendance.
However Guys, The "As Described" Rule Remains: Under Section 2(6) of this Act, the description of the goods. Even if an item is sold "as seen," it must still match its description. If the auction house describes an item as a "fully working 2026 television" and it arrives smashed or is a 2018 model, they are in breach of contract.
So THAT is why this firm just states the make and model and NOTHING about the condition.
FLEECE the buyer. BE VERY VERY CAREFUL BUYING ANY PETROL/ DIESAL / ELECTRICAL LOTS.

Failed to write a proper description and failed to display the valuable books in the picture leading to a very low price. No real effort put in to presentation.

Damage is all to frequent
First a delicate item submitted for selling was moved from a secure viewing area to a less secure one increasing the risk of damage, without any consultation, and then another delicate item was damaged due to a lack of supervision of those viewing it who had easy access and no idea of how to hold it. Peacocks really does need to consider vendors more and protect valuable delicate items.
All of my auction wins are broken stuff / have missing parts
Auction Description: "Professional Studio Equipment & Lighting
Due to relocation, we are instructed to sell surplus Studio Lighting and equipment by online Timed Auction."
Date: 29 July 2026
I won 3 lots at auction, every lot was broken and / or had parts missing. It is impossible to go there and check everything though this is what we must do to be certain of stock.
The point is, this was supposedly a surpplus stock sell-off due to relocation. I beg to differ. This appears more like a very dishonest vendor offloading broken WEEE. They know it's broken junk and rather than pay for commercial waste disposal, they auctioned it via WH Peacock. WH Peacock don't seem to have asked too many questions, correct me if I am wrong. I guess the response will be that we are responsible all the way.
For what it's worth, WH Peacock themselves seem nice enough, but as I say, their vendors (those who sell through them) are quite often dishonest and the auction house clearly isn't vetting them thoroughly. I've noted their resopnse but the fact is, if you sell e-Waste unannounced, expect "crap" reviews.
I hope WH Peacock will become more stringent in time, and get a rep for good corporate lifecycling. Not trash, but genuine lifecycling and downsizing (as the auction description itself promised).
WH Peacock: You CAN turn this around. Just be more thorough and if a vendor is dishonest, then take them to court. Don't let third parties dirty your name.

Good first time experience using W&H Peacock Auctions in St Neots.
Overall a good first time experience using W&H Peacock Auctions in St Neots.
Managed to buy a hoover and fan online using bidspotter for a very reasonable price (Much lower than refurb/2nd hand price). The descriptions were spot on for both items even though I went in a little blind on the hoover as you couldn't see everything that actually come with it. But when picking the items up today and talking with the guys there, they found the additional accessories which were stored separately for that lot. For future auctions I would go up there to inspect the lots or at least enquire about a lot as they take a 1 or 2 pictures for each lot online.
Hoover works great with no major issues so far!
Fan was showing an error but managed to get it working relatively quickly and currently saving me from the 30 degrees heat right now.
Both required some cleaning and had been very much used.
I would read their Terms and Conditions thoroughly. If you are buying anything electrical, please be aware that items may not be in a fully functional state or may not be exactly as described. If you are not happy with that, don't bid.
Also, their fee's were clear and I could calculate exactly the total of each lot will be before they sent the invoice.
Thank you. Will be using you guys again.

We called to the bedford center as I had some electrical goods to put to sale room 2 and again the staff where very helpful and looked after us next we went to the cafe again absolutely fantastic service the food was lovely and piping hot and loads of it with nice cup of
tea have to say this auction center is a lovely place to go to with very professional staff who give a great service ( I'm well happy and would recommend to my friends ) thanks l jay
What an unforgettable auction…
What an unforgettable auction experience. I paid around £26 for what was described as a badminton set with a lawn-standing net and frame, only to discover that the badminton rackets were missing, crucial top net-holding parts were absent, and one of the frame sections was cracked. A truly immersive “mystery box” experience from start to finish.
Naturally, I contacted customer service claiming misrepresentation, and I was delighted to receive a masterclass in contractual copy-and-paste excellence. Their response demonstrated an elite level of commitment to reminding customers that “all items are sold as seen,” regardless of whether essential components are actually present inside the box. It takes remarkable dedication to customer policy to achieve that level of emotional detachment.
I was especially impressed by the philosophy that buyers should apparently inspect every screw, pole, crack, and missing item in person beforehand — a bold and innovative approach in the modern online auction era, particularly during a cost-of-living and fuel-price crisis.
The overall experience has taught me many valuable life lessons:
Hope is temporary.
“1. Complete set” is apparently a state of mind.
2. Cardboard boxes may contain literally anything.
3. Customer satisfaction is an abstract concept.
If you enjoy suspense, disappointment, and legally fortified indifference, this is absolutely the auction house for you.
Five stars for consistency, confidence, and the sheer Olympic-level commitment to “sold as seen.”

I went to the Bedford site today
I went to the Bedford site today. I had already left an online bid for some shoes, but decided to go in person to explore. I was outbid by £5 on the shoes, which was fine. I drove home, only to receive an invoice for the shoes! I rang and spoke with a lovely lady, who explained what may have happened (the other bidder failed for some reason). Part of the reason I went in the first place was the reviews I read regarding postage costs - so now I have to go back on Monday to pay and collect the shoes. However, I have been quite impressed with Peacocks - good organisation, pretty good sale items, clear information and quite a few staff (some working harder than others!). I did pay the £10 for lifetime membership but decided not to partake but to learn. I will certainly go again.

WORST AUCTION HOUSE IN THE UK
I can honestly say the 2 lots I bought from here (supposedly mixed jewellery lots) was the worst pile of rubbish I’ve ever received. I was already met with sour taste when I was quoted £40 to ship these two lots. As an eBay seller I lose money on my postage costs, it’s not ethical on eBay to make money from shipping so I really don’t understand how these auction houses get away with it. As a comparison, I’ve just bought 10 lots of jewellery from Smiths and they’ve charged me £20, I’ve bought 14 lots from Folkestone and they’ve charged me exactly what it’s cost them…
Appreciating the fact items are sold as seen (even though the majority of online bidders can’t physically see the items and rely on limited photos and description), I requested a partial refund on the postage due to the extortionate costs to receive items I threw straight away. This was refused and met with a generic email about viewing items prior to bidding - I replied to explain it was the postage I was requesting a refund on, which was ignored so has all subsequent emails. It’s a shame a company would rather have a website of bad reviews then put their hand in their pocket and put things right but that sums up this auction perfectly, money grabbing, daylight robbery! I’m reading a lot of negative things about selling items there too, just avoid it… there are so many better ones out there! Let’s get this place finished as it does not deserve a place on the saleroom!
Test all appliances
I bought a vacuum cleaner via W H Peacock Auctions online and collected it from St Neots. Positive, great parking.
The item powered on, which I understand is what they mean by “tested”, but once home it had no suction at all. I later took it to a repair company who confirmed the motor is dead and beyond repair even if they got a new one fit.
I accept that auction items are sold as seen and that it was my responsibility to view and test the item properly before purchase, which I didn’t do. That part is on me. However, as it was a vacuum cleaner, I did expect that “tested” would mean it actually worked as a vacuum, not just that it switched on and didn’t blow up.
Disappointing outcome, and a reminder to anyone buying electrical items here to view and test them thoroughly in person before bidding.
W & H Peacock St Alban's - Shocking service...
More pictures and a better description of the items being auctioned. I bought 8 items and 4 of the were not fit for purpose. If you offer an online side of the business you need to offer a better service and better guarantee the items will work. A PAT test is not enough to guarantee the item is going to function. Disappointing for first time. Won't use a online auction again. Felt more like a recycling centre for substandard products.
Good parking lovely site.
Good parking lovely site easy to view all the auction rooms, and if you become a member, you can place remote bids. Great restaurant upstairs. We'll worth a visit.

Beware if placing maximum bids online prior to an auction
I went out of my way to view a product prior to the auction. The staff on site were very helpful, I paid for membership and was told I could place a maximum bid online as I was not able to attend the live auction.
Ten minutes before the auction I was called and a deposit was demanded otherwise my bid would not stand (No mention of this in person or online). So, my bid did not count! It was higher than what the item sold for, so their loss ultimately.
Be very careful if you are placing bids via the website.
It would be a 1 Star review but the people on site were very friendly and helpful.
Now they are emailing me fake invoices…
Now they are emailing me fake invoices saying I have won lots from their company. How childish and unprofessional of these scammers.
I suggest anyone with issues to contact Peterborough Trading Standards.
