Overpriced and Underwhelming
My partner had wanted to visit here for ages, so we booked afternoon tea for our anniversary. It’s often described as one of the most photographed cafés in the world, but for me it’s a perfect example of social media photos overselling the reality.
We were seated in a small, cramped room that felt rather lifeless, with tired-looking plastic decorations that detracted from the experience rather than adding to it.
The sandwiches were particularly disappointing. There was barely any filling in them, as though the absolute minimum had been used. Some were also quite dry, giving the impression they had been prepared well in advance and left sitting for some time before being served.
The tiramisu shots were equally underwhelming, lacking flavour and leaving little impression. On a positive note, the scones and muffin were delicious and were easily the highlight of the afternoon tea.
Overall, the experience didn’t come close to justifying the £120 price tag. Next time, I’d rather put together a picnic with some quality M&S sandwiches and treats and save myself a considerable amount of money.
