Avoid this company!

1-800 number is not answered. Emails are no longer being responded to. Terrible customer service. I had a claim processed on Dec 27/23 and still waiting for payment even though they "apparently" processed the direct deposit two times. Total runaround trying to get payment for claims. Now having to start formal complaint process with Ombudsman. Avoid this company!

Surgery Assistance: The most significant challenge was Thunder's surgery, which cost $7,727.36. In this overwhelming situation, Pet Plus Us provided a substantial coverage of $6,954.62. This financial support was not just a relief; it was a lifesaver.

X-Ray Coverage: For an X-ray that cost $228.90, Pet Plus Us covered $206.01. Every penny covered in such times is a burden lifted.

Handling Previous Conditions: They had previously assisted with a skin condition, efficiently handling the costs post a $100 deductible. Their consistent support is commendable.

The financial aspect, though crucial, pales in comparison to the emotional support they provided. On December 1st, as I was racing against time to get Thunder to the hospital, I called Pet Plus Us minutes before closing. A representative stayed on the line with me until all financial discussions with the hospital’s care coordinator were settled. This gesture of staying beyond working hours to assist a worried pet owner exemplifies their exceptional customer service.

My gratitude towards Pet Plus Us is immense. Their coverage goes beyond transactions; it's about compassion and understanding the bond we share with our pets. They have not only provided financial support but have also given me peace of mind, ensuring that I can focus on what matters most - Thunder’s health and well-being.

Expérience insatisfaisante Service Client.

Runaround Reimbursement

I have been with them for 10 years. The last year has been terrible, up until then I had no complaints. Last year I waited 6 months for a reimbursement and was given the total runaround...I was told the cheque is in the mail twice, nope. I then tried direct deposit, I was told it had been sent twice, nope. I finally got my cheque after 6 months and 17 emails. I am now waiting for another reimbursement...it's been 3 months. Their turn around used to be 10-15 calendar days, now it says 20-25...it's more like 120-125 days. If I didn't have a senior dog I would be done with them but unfortunately I'm stuck with them.

The worst insurance you can ever get

The worst insurance you can ever get. Our beloved pet got admitted to the hospital and hospital bill turned out to be over 9K and our insurance reimbursement was only $1,800.00. Considering that we have been a loyally client for 15 years. To all pet owners, please do not get this insurance. It is a total disaster.

Shifty Pet Insurance Company

We purchased 2 insurance plans for our dogs with PetsPlusUs a few weeks ago through our Costco membership. 3 weeks later and we are cancelling this. Beware.

The exclusions came back wrong and questionable.

The first email excluded my male from allergy-related conditions when he has never had any allergies at all. It was my female that had some allergies in her eyes. After calling them, I was instructed I had to wait to hear back from them after they reviewed our telephone conversation from when we signed up so they could hear if we mentioned him having allergies! I have also sent them all their medical records plus the vets sent them the records as well I found out. PPU said if it was us who said he had allergies, we'd have to get the vet to write to them to clear up the issue. If it was the PPU agent who made the error, they would take care of it. Well, we waited for their response which they said would be a couple of days but we never heard back from them.

Then I received the email today for the exclusions for my female and had another issue. She once had a sebaceous (fatty) cyst so they now have excluded her from any cyst, mass or lump going forward. The cyst was back in 2021 and had completely healed. The response I received was to complete an online form and include new medical information so they can review their decision. There's nothing new to send. It's an indicator of what to expect from them. One benign cyst should not exclude a pet from ever having coverage for another cyst, lump, or mass. Each cyst is a seperate issue unless it's a cluster. If she were to develop a cancerous mass, that wouldn't be covered because she had a pimple once? WTAF! I've worked in healthcare and know a lot about the medical field.

Dear PetsPlusUs: I just cancelled both plans. Your loss as I had them on an expensive plan of $150/month each.

After reading through the negative comments here and on other platforms I am so glad I cancelled before they could get $1 of my money.

Better customer service would have landed them my $300/mth with the 2 healthy 6 yr old dogs I have. What a disgrace! We all love our pets and buy insurance for peace of mind. Someone should tell PetsPlusUs that.

Now watch them respond with a copy and paste response.

I suggest doing your research well before purchasing pet insurance.

Look at all the 1 star reviews. Their 1-800 number isn't even answered.

We can not even get an answer regarding our dog that requires emergency surgery. They promise everything, and deliver nothing. Again see all the reviews. We need to stop supporting this illegitimate company. Pure fraud

Assurance accident = arnaque!

Sachez que pour réussir à obtenir un remboursement pour un accident, il faut prouver, « hors de tout doute », qu'il s'agit bel et bien d'un accident. Alors si votre chien joue seul dans votre cour ou que vous vous baladez en bois et ne voyez pas comment il s'est blessé (ce qui arrive régulièrement), vous ne serez pas remboursé car une enflure et boiterie pourraient être causées par une maladie. Donc, soit vous payez pour assurer accident ET maladie, soit ne prenez aucune assurance, vous payerez pour rien.
Sans compter que le système de déclaration est assez complexe. Il faut sélectionner les raisons de la déclaration parmi un menu défilant d'une cinquantaine (environ, peut-être même plus) de problèmes possible, souvent avec des termes que nous ne connaissons même pas (clairement du vocabulaire de vétérinaire/assureur).
La portion Accident est clairement une arnaque. Le « hors de tout doute » est quasiment impossible à prouver.

Pure Fraud !

I paid for almost a year of coverage for my dog. I've only had one claim, $120 worth of medication at the vet and they refused it. They tried to bury me under piles of papers, ask for his medical records from birth to date to discourage me, then refused. It's fraudulent. A year's worth of money wasted. In short, don't subscribe.

This company has absolutely no concept…

This company has absolutely no concept of customer service whatsoever, I suggest you read the reviews, there are much more negative reviews than positive. On YYC Dogs a thread started about insurance, there was only one positive on pets plus us. As another stated run, pick another insurance company. I should have read the reviews.

I waited three months for an answer to a question regarding an ‘anything related to’ , I even got an insurance ombudsman involved, still no reply. After I cancelled, not once did anyone from this insurance company reach out to resolve this issue.

I plan on making it my mission to sharing my experience everywhere. I am heavily involved in the dog world completing, volunteering, coaching and judging. My work provides me access to federal employees, I told two friends and they told two friends etc etc.

Terrible experience

Terrible experience. We had been paying for a year. Submitted a claim and suddenly they want info from all vets, including the breeder. I mean it has been a year. Should they not have asked for this info much sooner? They were supposedly contacting our vet a year ago to get this info. Up to 20 days to get reimbursed. Go somewhere else!

Very pleased

Our dog has passed but in the last 7 months of his life we had over $10,000 in claims. Two MRI, spinal tap, treatments for meningitis and a spinal disease. Healthy one day and then suddenly we had a very sick dog on our hands. Pets plus us paid every claim. Yes they take awhile to process the claim, but I was so happy I didn’t have to fight with them when all my fight was being directed at fighting for my dogs life.
That said, we now have rescued another dog and we really want unlimited coverage and have changed to spot. But spot does not tell you what is considered a pre existing condition until you send in a claim and it’s suddenly denied because they have flagged it as preexisting. They are basically saying, here’s you policy but we aren’t going to tell you what we
Have flagged as pre existing so it just feels like too much of a gamble. I think we
Are going to go back to pets plus us because I don’t want any surprises. I want to know up front what will and will not be covered.

Don't trust this company. Their insurance isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

This insurance company is a complete scam.

During the introductory trail my 8 1/2 week olde enlgish bulldog got sick (phenomena), to the tune of thousands at the emergency vet hospital. The trail was suppose to cover to max of a thousand dollars which would of helped. Although after 2 months of claims, forms, re-submissions and reassessments I'm tired of fighting with them. They wouldn't cover anything !

My dog is now healthy and happy again. I'm only glad I discovered this now instead of paying insurance premiums for years into a insurance product that refuses to pay during a stressful situation. I feel bad for some of the other reviewers that were years into there coverage to discover this. If your considering pet insurance please shop around to another company, the last thing you need during an emergency is the stress of dealing with a terrible insurance company.

Pets Plus Us insurance company sent me…

Pets Plus Us insurance company sent me an email with a policy number and member ID for pet insurance that I did not sign up for.

This was done without my knowledge or consent. I have had absolutely no dealings with this company.

I feel this is fraudulent and have sent numerous emails to them to cancel the fraud policy.

Negative 5 stars - DO NOT RECOMMEND

We started our claim in May 2023 for a basic vet visit, tests, antibiotics, and retest. It's Sept 5th, and still no payment because they keep messing up. Worst pet insurance broker we have ever dealt with. Just don't bother. As it’s now Sept 6th and they just posted their canned “concerned” response below, while STILL not putting my payment in my account.

You will be dissapopinted!!

Decided to try pet insurance for our dog 1 year ago. Thought I had done enough due diligence on this company but obviously not. The setup process was painful.
The one and only claim we had was so painful, being asked to provide current and past vet records (which we applied at the time of getting approved), the countless delays and excuses. The end result, not one expense item approved!!

These folks are totally into this business to take your money. There are way better pet insurance options out there in Canada!!!

I'll be looking for a new insurance…

I'll be looking for a new insurance company. After a ton of hoops and wasted time, my $1028 vet bill to repair my dog from another dog attack netted me a whole $435 reimbursement. Colour me underwhelmed.

Beware of this company

I would not recommend this insurance company at all.
They never paid out anything for either of my pets and utilized every loophole they could to avoid paying, to the point of twisting my words as a pet owner and using that version of events instead of the results of veterinary professionals, even after I put my pet through x-rays and ultrasounds to be thorough and determine exactly what was wrong. But Pets Plus Us did not care about the results determined by professional vets.
