Absolutely terrible
Absolutely terrible dishonest business with horrendous customer support and predatory practices - they will do anything to not pay out and change terms mid policy. After months of billing errors on their end, they finally sorted it out and collected multiple months worth of premiums from me in a lump sum, almost $500. I was originally fine with it - monthly premiums are part of having insurance, obviously, and technical errors happen. However, even though this was a simple billing issue (the charge was getting stuck in a pending status on their end) they said they had to reissue my insurance policy and it needed to be underwritten again. They then asked all this extra documentation for my dog from when he was a puppy 7 years ago in a city we no longer live in, even though I’ve had an active policy and been paying them premiums for MONTHS. I rejected this request on principle because I shouldn’t have to provide any additional documentation - it’s NOT a new policy and never should have been “terminated for non payment” in the first place - my credit card has been active and valid this entire time. This literally was not my problem or fault at all. After getting absolutely nowhere with their Support team (their replies would take weeks and I also spent about 10 hours on the phone with them), I disputed the charges via my credit card and reported this business to the provincial regulatory body and the BBB. I won my chargeback dispute and Visa sided with me immediately. I wish I hadn’t wasted MONTHS of my time trying to resolve this with PetsPlus directly. Such a waste of time. What a shady company, stay far far away! (I found them via Costco and I’m usually happy with businesses partnered with them but wow, worst decision I ever made).

Read your policy, as they barely cover anything. Might as well save up every year and pay for surprises out of pocket. You will come out ahead that way. Pets Plus Us barely covers anything.

Avoid at all costs
The worst pet insurance provider ever! They will waste your time and reject your claims by repeatedly asking you to provide more information but that won’t change their mind to reject your claims no matter what your vet says!

Awful experience, complete waste of money
Awful experience. Opened a policy through Costco program as when we got a puppy. Paid premiums and submitted expenses as they arose, however, only to find out months later that they did not accept our vaccination record at the underwriter. So we were paying for a policy that wasn't even active. It took 12 months to actually solve this, because the original shots the puppy got was at the breeder. Ultimately, claims were paid out but much closer to 40% of the total value after deductible, vs the 90% that I was paying.
Canceled the policy at the 12 month mark, and would have forgotten all about this experience, except that they continued to bill me without notification.
They then sent 3 months of bills to a debt collector, who contacted me 9 months later and 1 year after I canceled. This was an unwelcome surprise, and I hope this review turns away anyone considering using this provider.

After 3 years and 3 rejected claims…
After 3 years and 3 rejected claims I've decided to just cancel my policy. Various fine print details will catch you in the end, you're better off just putting the policy money into a separate rainy day account for your pets.
Pets Plus Us has been awesome
Pets Plus Us has been awesome. I put my puppy on it back in 2015 when we was 8 weeks old. He has been on it ever since. At about a year he was diagnosed with environmental allergies. Pets Plus Us has been fantastic and I have saved over $14 000 on my dog's allergies. I recently just got another puppy who I also put on Pets Plus Us at 8 weeks old. I highly recommend this company as I have not had any issues with them!

One unhappy customer
From my own personal experience I Pets plus very unprofessional. I called the company to get information on insuring my two pets, and when I asked questions that were important to me about my pets they were condescending and very rude. In the end I never got the questions I asked answered I got more of a talk over then a conversation. I must say I did not think very highly of them so I did my own research.

Absolutely awful customer service and do absolutely everything to deny claims and disorganized. No condolences after my beloved Dozer passed away. Confusion and stall tactics to pay and last claims as multiple requests for additional documents, when documents are sent in they open separate claims not associated with the claim form. No understanding for the difficulty of losing a pet. I have submitted 2 claims for the vet visits and euthanasia and somehow there are 5 claims numbers and even had to request the vet to send the cremation documents with though they already send in all required form, medical records and invoice
Worst ever
I also had insurance for my 2 cats and after denying a claim for a foreign body because the vet choice to do a barium treatment vs surgery it was denied$2000 but they would have paid $5000 for surgery. I cancelled and switched to Trupanion

They don't pay any claims as everything is a pre-exciting conditions even if your vet say otherwise. This is probably the worst pet insurance in the market today.

Would never go with this company or recommend it to anybody. They will deny every claim based upon technicalities or they will say preexisting condition even though the condition was diagnosed a year after the policy was in effect. Better off putting that money aside and use it if necessary. I even included a signed document from my doctor that it was not a pre-existing condition but to no avail. Money down the drain for nothing. They will sweet talk you into thinking that its the best coverage whereas when the time comes a way will be found to deny your claim. I wish I had read through the reviews before i signed up with them. Hundreds of 1 star critical reviews with very very few good reviews ( must be their underwriters - LOL ). Ombudsman complaint did not work. Now I have to go to Ontario Consumer Protection and better business bureau.
I have been blatantly cheated and as a matter of principle I am not letting this go until I have exhausted all resources including spending money on a law suit. With them having cheated this many customers I am sure I will get more support.
Terrible
I paid $30-$40 a month for six years for my pet with a $250 deductible. When he died and I contacted them to cancel the policy, they didn't even say "condolences," nothing. By the time I got to the third or fourth rep (they are disorganized), I was offered an apology. They are very hit and miss as far as customer service goes. They did send three emails saying "sorry for the loss of your pet" after I sent in a polite suggestion that maybe the reps should offer condolences as it was a customer service department. Just terribly organized with no customer service skills, unless you by luck happen upon someone who actually knows what's going on.
I paid almost $500 to have my beloved pet euthanized and cremated. Pets Plus Us covered $100 of it. READ WHAT YOU ARE SIGNING UP FOR.
They also double-billed me the first month of my other pet's insurance policy, apologized and assured me I would be refunded. They told me it was a mistake because my cat who died was still in the system and that billing date was no longer valid. Then almost three weeks and three phone calls later, they decide that the double-billing was legitimate, that I had paid 2 weeks in advance and that was normal procedure. I asked why no one had told me that when I signed up, nor the three other times I was assured I was receiving a refund. They have no idea what's going on. AVOID THEM. I cancelled my policy with them and have filed a complaint with the BBB.
They also now require that senior pets go under an expensive vet exam to rule out pre-existing conditions. When they were under President's Choice, no such expensive exam was required (almost $500). Both my pets were the same age when I enrolled them. They do not cover the great expense of this exam, it is at your cost. They were a better insurance company when they were under President's Choice, Pets Plus Us is money-grubbing and will charge you at every opportunity, and cause you unnecessary expense and hassle. Find a better insurance company to take care of your animals.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
Bad experience all around. I signed up in February; we are now in March and I am still receiving the "we need more information" emails.
The first issue came up when the expressed that they needed all previous medical history. My dog is adopted; so I only have the medical history since she has been with me. I sent them everything I had for her but they were having trouble getting info from one vet. They explicitly told me that that was the last piece of information they needed and then they would be able to begin the underwriting.
After a number of back and forth with both the vet and customer service I was able to get that info from the vet to them. As soon as that was submitted I received yet another "we need more information" email.
I emailed them saying "this is ridiculous, please cancel my plan and refund me everything I have paid up until this point." I believe this ask is fair due to the fact that her coverage was never active since the underwriting was never completed. I got yet another automated reply saying "your pets coverage was active from Feb until July and you are not owed anything.
Additionally; you are not assigned a dedicated account manager so every time you call in or email you are talking to someone new; someone who knows nothing about your account.
I only signed up with this account because my company started promoting "hub" and they were a vendor listed in hub. Not only am I leaving this review; but I am escalating this to hub as well.
Stay away from this company, far, far away. RUN don't walk. I wish I would have read all the reviews before I had signed up.
The worst pet insurance company, STAY AWAY from Pets Plus Us!
The worst, absolutely the worst pet insurance company there ever is. STAY AWAY! Do not put your loving family member through this, they will even deny the funeral costs.
Our Siberian Husky had only an ear infection around 10 years old, other than that he has never had a problem in his entire life, not even sick once. He has been healthy since day 1, and we had him from 6 weeks old.
Once he turned 10 years old we decided that we should look into insurance for him as he is now hitting old age (yes it's more expensive getting insurance when they are older). We shopped around for a while and found through our Costco membership they provide Pet Insurance through Pets Plus Us, so we decided to go with them.
Shortly after our Husky turned 11 he developed arthritis. He progressively got worse over the next year, and after turning 12 and 2 months old, he could no longer move and couldn't get up from the ground, he could only stay there laying on one side.
This whole stressful time of our beloved boy going through this horrendous ordeal, Pets Plus Us has denied every single claim. They said this is a pre-existing condition, even though the only problem he ever had was an ear infection.
We had to euthanize our beloved boy, tears are in my eyes as I think of this, but we could not be so selfish in wanting to keep him in our lives, we had to look at the pain and suffering he is going through every day, and now not being able to move, that's no way for him to live, I wish he was still here, but this pain I feel for his loss is better on me, rather than having him suffer. But, guess what I just received - A DENIAL of the claim that we put in for the euthanization expenses, stating that we had to euthanize him due to a pre-existing condition - again we don't know where they are getting this pre-existing condition from, he was fine until he developed arthritis after we already had the insurance policy in place.
They have taken over $2000 of ours in insurance premiums, and not payed us a single penny towards healthcare of our pet (We also bought the highest plan they have). For that year, that he had arthritis we paid out of pocket for all the medications he required, we were paying $100s a month trying everything we could to make him better, his quality of life better. so not only were we paying $100s a month, but Pets Plus Us were also taking their premiums from us and happily denying all claims sent to them.
You are better off keeping your money, at least that will go towards the medical costs and unfortunately funeral costs for your beloved family member, OR please find a different Pet Insurance company that will take care of your beloved family member, they deserve at least this much for loving you so much.
I have been with company for 12 yrs and…
I have been with company for 12 yrs and I have never put a claim in, I have 2 dogs with them, a 12 yr old and 10 yr old, put got sick in 2020, I put a claim in back in September, here is Feb, and they are still jerking me around, but they have no problem taking my money for the last 12 yrs, month after month, everytime I call its a different excuse, wish I had read the reviews of this company before I signed up with them, so people please read the reviews of this company and judge accordingly, I've read all the reviews and they all seem to say the same thing, they are glad to take your money every month but not good about paying reimbursements even with all the proper documents. Please be aware

Don’t go with this company
Signed up when my pups were 4 months old. Did what was asked. They take my money each month but whenever I submit a claim they day there is not enough paperwork. I do not know what they want as they have all my paperwork. The pups are young so there isn’t that much to send. I’m totally frustrated. What a waste of time and money.
