OK, everyone knows that the guys at RVO are all extremely helpful and friendly, as they are, period, but the reason I am doing a review relates to my purchase. I am in my 70's having had a couple of telescopes in the past, 120 refractor, 150 reflector, both have gone but still I have the itch. Did my research and travelled to RVO to view my intended. I was introduced to the RVO Horizon 250 Dobsonian. I'd not heard of this brand. After only a couple of minutes I'd bought one, why? I intended the Sky-Watcher 250. The RVO is around £80 more, so what do you get for the extra cash. First and foremost there is a ball brace and roller bearings on the turn table, brilliant and smooth. A battery operated tube fan. A 90 degree eye piece on the spotting scope (a must). The clutch mechanism on the axis pivot is a couple of full sized nobs one on each side, not a simple screw handle on one side of the cradle. A dual speed Crayford focuser. A smart phone bracket and holder (that's £20+ on Amazon). And finally you get not 2 but 3 eyepieces. What I am trying to convey is that for around £80, you get all the little necessary extras that make a decent telescope excellent and exactly what you need. I can't comment on the optics, no expertise or comparisons, but I'm happy. Finally if you're after a 200 or 250 Dobby, seriously...... consider the Horizon.

I phoned RVO 5 minutes before closing time and was given the time to get solid advice about what telescope would fit my requirements.

Navigating their webpage was easy.

Someone from RVO phoned me the following day to confirm my address. (I had given the wrong post code) and my new telescope arrived the following day.

As a newcomer to astronomy I decided to call in the store for advice on my first telescope. I was guided to a Dobsonian 8” as I wanted to keep to visual viewing. This sent me towards the RVO own badged unit which was the best advice I could have received. The unit is great with many inclusions that other people are upgrading such as focus unit, bearing on the base etc. RVO from start to finish have been so supportive throughout. And to add to this I keep finding that they are so very competitive on price. If this is a subject that you are considering, talk to them and get good advice so you don’t make a mistake that you will regret and save you in cost along the way.

Customer service is second to none. Felt like I was dealing with people who actually cared about my experience.

Prices are reasonable (comparable to other retailers). Delivery is usually swift and items are very well packaged. (as they should be).

I've had several items from them and have yet to be disappointed with the service.

Purchased a Sky-Watcher Skymax 180 Maksutov from these guys, absolutely superb telescope with service from RVO just as good. Adam sorted my order, with some good advice on some other bits too. Can’t say enough, top notch service from start to finish!

I was buying a telescope for my husbands birthday. As this was a first foray into the world of astronomy the RVO website was very helpful in selecting something for a beginner.
They say check with us to ensure there is stock available, which of courses I ignored, but Jamie emailed me same day to advise what I wanted was out and he offered a suitable alternative.
I needed a credit which was quickly sorted and everything was with us to time.
The manufacturer had left one small piece out of the assembly ( not RVOs fault) but on flagging it to them it was shipped to us same day and 24hrs later it arrived. Great service indeed.
So my advice is if you want to start in astronomy don’t go anywhere else. Nice helpful considerate people who care about their customers experience.

Rother Valley Optics are an independent shop so please support them by buying their products rather than buying from places such as Amazon, you won't get the customer service like you get from them.

I recently purchased a seestar s50.
The seestar is an amazing bit of kit.
So simple to set up and use. Even the most inexperienced amongst us can use this with ease.
The seestar gives great results and the time you have, coupled with patience, the better the results.
Rother valley optics have been exceptional with their customer service, each and every time I've made a purchase. A good job done great.

My guide scope focusing mechanism had failed. I contacted RVO and they couldnt have been more helpful. The service was excellent. RVO fixed the issue and it was back on my scope in 3 days. Excellent service

I wanted a telescope to get back into it and Adam at RVO was excellent in responding to all my questions and making sure the solar filter I wanted properly fitted. I ordered online on Friday and it arrived well packaged Saturday with no problems. The whole experience was easy and the staff there are very helpful and experienced. My first time using this company and I will definitely be using them again.

Call it mid life crises or whatever but decided to buy a telescope and try my luck at astrophotography. As a complete novice at this Ive found it a minefield. I recently purchased a 'ZWO ASI678MC USB3 colour imaging camera'. I was excited about producing some planetary photography, I had already purchased a laptop with Windows 11 so that I could fulfil what I had set out to achieve. Unfortunately unbeknown to both myself and a vey helpful employee of 'Rother Valley Optics' (Adam) the driver for the camera was incompatible. This information was acquired from (ZWO) by Adam about the fact that the driver was not recognized by the laptop. The Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Go latest edition runs on the 'ARM' Advanced RISC Machines Chipset Processor and ZWO informed us of this and explained that the driver will not be available until late 2025. I have to say that Adam was exemplary in contacting ZWO and getting this information and increasing my knowledge about fast moving technology. Albeit the camera is being returned and I will be using DSLR photography and 'Photoshop' I have to say the customer service of Rother Valley Optics essentially (Adam) was outstanding and will look to purchase from them in the future.

First class service for a first time buyer from Rother Valley Optics.

Emailed after 2pm on a Friday about the availability of a tripod, Adam replied within minutes saying it was available, I placed the order and they even managed to ship it that day... Monday, tripod arrived in perfect condition.

I ordered the SkyWatcher 3/8 Inch Thread Stainless Steel Tripod and it goes perfectly with my GTi mount.
The tripod is quite big and is possibly borderline for portability, but sturdiness is more important and I have a trolley for moving my astronomy kit around, so it's not much of an issue.

Ordered a telescope , it arrived the next day, I was kept up to date with delivery and phoned an hour before letting me know what rime it would arrive, the price was great. My grandson will love it I will certainly reccomend this company.
