Take your hard earned cash elsewhere

I purchased a white Hyundai i30 N from RS Car Sales Cheshire on the 08/09/2025, placing a £5,500 deposit down and financing the rest through Motonovo finance. The purchase process and test drive was smooth which initially left me feeling confident with the car and dealership. However the day after I noticed a squeaking sound on the front drivers side.

I had rang RS Car sales the following day regarding this issue and they advised me to take it to a VAT registered garage to have the fault diagnosed to see if it could be covered under warranty. The earliest I could manage to get the car the garage was the same Friday but the noise got progressively worse, the car was inspected the following Tuesday and I was sent a garage report that confirmed a serious pre existing fault with the vehicle, the shock absorber and top mount were moving freely inside the arch of the drivers side of the vehicle only being held in place by the weight of the vehicle.

Effectively this would require the top mount, strut, bolt and shock absorber to be replaced since they were damaged which made the car unroadworthy and unsafe to drive. These parts were on backlog from Hyundai with no ETA. My initial thoughts to reading the report was that if the components had failed and came out of place going over a pothole or driving down a motorway, the damage could of been catastrophic. The report stated this fault was pre existing, meaning it could not have been caused within my short period of ownership. The car had also passed an MOT on 02/09/2025, just days earlier, which raised further concerns.

I immediately rang RS car sales to request a refund and cancellation of the HP agreement. They replied stating 'Its a used car, these things tend to happen, we will not refund you or pay the garage’s labour fees, but we’ll collect and repair the vehicle with second-hand parts you’ll then need to collect it from our dealership'. I declined and opened a case with Motonovo finance but was advised it could take weeks to be assigned a case handler. The same day I emailed a refund request to RS Car Sales, they then responded and backtracked, claiming they had already offered a refund but insisted I must return the vehicle at my own cost. They then contradicted themselves again, saying “we don’t collect cars from your area”. I thought this was unfair due to the car being deemed unroadworthy within 8 days of purchase.

Following the advice from Motonovo, I delayed returning the vehicle until a case handler was assigned to ensure no unlawful deductions would be made. During this period RS Car Sales pressured me repeatedly with emails saying I would lose my right to a refund if I don't return within 30 days from purchase, even though MotoNovo confirmed that my right was protected as I had notified them of rejection within that timeframe. I was contacted on the 15/10/2025 by Motonovo saying RS Car Sales are unable to make any deductions to my refund, upon hearing that I was happy to return the vehicle, it was returned the same Friday.

The following Monday I chased for my refund of £5,500 and was told the following week by the dealer that they did not find any pre existing fault with the vehicle (Of course they didn't...) and that they would only refund me if I agree not to leave a negative review about RS Car Sales as it is part of their policy. I immediately contacted Motonovo finance, they got involved and the dealer sharp changed their minds about this 'pOLiCy' and issued me a refund the same day.

RS Holes motto of "We don't just say we are different than other dealerships, we show you." Certainly applies as they have been awful. Don't make the same mistake as I did and take your hard earned cash elsewhere to a dealer that actually values honesty and customer service. Judging from Rory's replies to other reviews I am intrigued to see his reply to this.

(I have attached photo proof of my experience with rs car sales on google reviews)

Response to RS Car Sales reply.
- The issue did not become apparent until the following days? It became apparent the next day after purchase when I called RS Car Sales to notify them about the issue.

- They did not encourage me to return the car I instead had repeated emails of RS Car Sales pressuring me.

- Bolt off bolt on repair? (Check the images posted on google reviews)

- Regarding my refund that's a lie, the photos I posted on google clearly show RS Car Sales making my refund conditional on not leaving a negative review. They only agreed to refund me in full because the finance company stepped in the following week and said they would start fining RS Car Sales if they do not refund me as it is illegal to use any tactics that remove my right to leave an honest review.

So yeah it was terrible after care from RS Car Sales.

Hi Corrie,

You bought a car and experienced an issue. From the outset we only wanted to assist. We offered to assist with repair.
The issue wasn't present when independently MOT tested or independently pre sale checked.
It also wasn't present on your test drive or drive home as it didn't become apparent until the following days.
Things can, and do go wrong with used cars.
Rather than accept our offer for a repair on the parts you decided you wanted a refund.
It is down to you to bring the car back to the place you bought it from, and we can't refund without the car.

This took weeks for you to do. Of course we wanted the car back sooner rather than later and we tried to encourage you to do so. The right to reject is 30 days. Cars devalue month on month and given it was a bolt on bolt off repair hardly any reason for us to draw it out.

You've had your full finance deal returned and your full deposit returned.
You turned down the offer of a repair.
We requested this was full and final and concluded matters with no negative feedback or reviews. You declined.

So even now after being refunded you have left a one star review, the lowest possible rating for us as a business even though you no longer have the car and had a full refund. Terrible aftercare right?
As pointed out via email if your going to leave terrible feedback even after being refunded then simply what is the point in us doing so.

Its not personal for us, it clearly is for you, the new owner is delighted with the car, broken part replaced and life goes on.

I note you have left the same review on as many platforms as possible. Hope that has left you feeling warm and happy.

All the best

Honestly couldn’t fault these guys

Honestly couldn’t fault these guys. From start to finish, the service was brilliant — friendly, professional, and genuine. They made the whole process really easy and stress-free.

The car was exactly how it was described online, super clean, and clearly well looked after. They took the time to go through everything with me and made sure I was happy before driving off. You can tell they actually care about their customers, not just the sale.

Would 100% recommend RS Car Sales to anyone looking for a decent car and proper customer service. Really happy with my purchase.

Extra mile

Bought a car just shy of 2 months ago, made the process very easy when turning up on the day and no hassle for a test drive, also helped with prior finance company taking excess money on settlement payment, went the extra mile even after the point of sale

Rory is a terrible, terrible human being

Unsure where these good reviews below have come from but my experience with this company and especially Rory was horrific. After reserving the car the night before, I received a call from Rory the next morning and within 30 seconds he was using pressurising sales tactics to get me to sort the car finance out before even viewing or test driving the vehicle.

My offer of £1.6k below the asking price, which I thought was reasonable for the car given it was 10.3k miles over the average (according to AutoTrader) and almost 6 years old, was rejected and later questioned by Rory asking if I knew how much money he would make if he accepted that offer. After a bit of time spent talking over each other he then swore at me multiple times then hung up the phone.

I was at peace with paying the full amount for the car and to be honest, I probably will, just not for an emotionally driven person like Rory. Rory is everything wrong with salespeople and if you enjoy getting pressured into buying a car then he's your man. If you are like me and like to be treated with basic human respect then you would never turn to this man for a car and you should take your money elsewhere.

Sadly 1 star is the lowest rating you can give on here but he really deserves nothing. (Expect to read Rory's emotionally charged response below).

Ah yes, another internet warrior who’s managed to turn a routine phone call into a Shakespearean tragedy. I remember you well — the self-proclaimed “expert negotiator” who thought offering £1,600 less on a fairly priced car was some sort of financial masterstroke. Spoiler alert, it was not.

Let’s break down your epic tale.
You reserved a car, got a call, were offered help sorting finance (because that’s what normal buyers actually do), and then decided to get offended that someone dared to run a business efficiently. Then came your heroic attempt to haggle a discount based on your in-depth AutoTrader research — truly groundbreaking stuff. Given you reserved the car seemed it was well priced.

You claim I “pressured” you. Translation: I asked direct questions and you panicked. You claim I “swore” at you. Translation: I had enough of you berating me for 3 mins.

In short, you didn’t get the deal you imagined in your head, and now we’re all treated to this long, self-pitying essay about how unfair the world is when people don’t cave to your demands.

I do admire your creativity though — if only your negotiation skills matched your storytelling, you might’ve actually driven away in something other than a grudge.

Warm regards (and a gentle reminder that cars cost money),

On a positive note, someone normal has since bought it for the asking price and having it delivered.
Enjoy continuing to kick tyres.

I originally bought my 5 series BMW from RS in July 2024 and I've been very happy with it. I contacted RS a few days ago to ask if they'd like to buy the car back as I am upgrading. They offered a good price which I accepted and the car was collected this morning and the payment made immediately.

Very happy with the service, thank you guys.

Great Experience, No hassle.

Just had my Ford Focus ST delivered after seeing it online. At first I was a bit unsure about buying a car i haven't seen in person but with videos, photos and assurances from the dealer I went ahead with the purchase. The car was delivered with no issues and the car is excatly as advertised. Great service and complete honesty. Will be going back again for my next vehicle 👍.

I purchased a Mercedes glc from rs cars…

I purchased a Mercedes glc from rs cars back in march of this year . The car was delivered to my but no warranty paper work saying that I had only 3 months,In July a fault came up saying ad blue tank empty but it was full as when I purchased the car I had filled it up with ad blue and only traveled 2k so called the team at rs cars and they just said its out of warranty . So no help from them . I was left with the repair cost.
Then since I received the car in march every month the tyre pressure light would appear with low pressure in one of my tyres . I’ve recently taken it for repair and was told that my car has been driving with run flats and standard tyres on which is not advisable as handling of the vehicle can be affected with potential loss of grip due to the run flats having stiffer tyre walls and respond to the braking and steering system in a different way to standard tyres as the tyre technician had notified me after inspection of my car and my insurance could be void due to modifications of the tyres So I emailed rs cars sales and asked them to rectify this problem as the car came with the tyres already on. I was told at first by Byron one of the team that Mercedes Benz don’t have run flats . Then I was told because I have owned the car for some months that it was NOT covered by warranty. But this problem has been with the car since I purchased it I’ve spoken with trading standards and have been advised to ask once more for the vehicle to be rectified by rs car sales before taking further action . SO PLEASE BE AWARE THAT AFTER SALES SERVICE IS VERY POOR AND HAVE YOUR PURCHASE CHECKED OUT BY THE AA .
In reply to your reply
It’s not been six months from time of sale as yet I brought the car on the 18 th of march 2025
No extended warranty was offered at time of sale and it’s not the problem that the tyres are different brands . The problem is that you put run flats with standard tyres which can be very dangerous and I put my children in the car for the past six months not knowing how dangerous the car can be when driving due to this
As for your unprofessional attitude in regards to the tyre technician and the remark that he is only there to make money then call Mercedes dealers yourselves and they will give you the same information that you should never put run flat tyres on the same car with standard tyres as it compromises the cars handling in a emergency situation and cornering at speed due to the side wall construction.

Also I will post the emails that Byron has sent me to show your future costumer what to expect when trying to rectify any problems that they will encounter with there purchase and the unprofessional manner to which he addresses to customers

Hi Dean,

Warranty does not cover punctures or tyres.

They don't come with run flat tyres either pal.

You're tyre technician is also misinformed as the tyres fitted as long as legal and the right size for the car are all thats needed insurance would never be cancelled if someone had some pirelli front tyres michelin rear tyres. Cars would not pass MOT would they if what he said was true.

It passed MOT pre sale and given we have not heard from you since purchase I trust the rest of the car is all good.
Many thanks

Byron

Dean,
First point to address you claim we sold you an illegal / dangerous / unsafe car.

We have not and if the car was presented for an MOT test again today and the same tyres were fitted as at point of sale with the same tread depths it would pass again.
It doesn't matter if you are misinformed, or what you think its simply black and white. That's it.

You purchased an older, higher mileage car a ‘67 Mercedes Benz GLC approaching 112,000 miles.
You declined the optional extended warranty.
You had the standard 3 month warranty.
You first experienced an issue outside the 3 months warranty period as you claim in your own review.
If the warranty isn’t valid and active we cannot claim. Its finished.
I don’t think it fair or reasonable to consider us the selling dealer of an older higher mileage car with thousands of components to be responsible when something stops working outside of that period.

You have now got in touch after 6 months telling us the car has different tyres across the front and rear of the vehicle and told us it is illegal.

It isn’t illegal to have different branded tyres.
The car passed an independent inspection and an independent mot pre sale. It would pass one again if presented in the same condition.

Tyres wouldn’t be a warranty item for any dealer.

They are also not an after sales item as you are being incorrectly advised by your ‘hiGhLY ExpERienceD tYrE TecHnIciAN’ they are illegal. Your tyre place only make money from selling tyres.

We did offer for you, after 6 months, to purchase 1/2/3 or 4 tyres at cost price and fit them for free. You have declined the kind offer. Instead you have left a one star review the lowest possible rating.

I also note that the only section of your review that uses any form of paragraphs is the copy and paste section of his email. It was nice to see a little grammar in the review even if it was from us and did break up the rest of it nicely.

Tom went the extra mile all the way through the viewing/buying experience...always available promptly to answer queries...and delivered a first class service on behalf of RS Car Sales Tom and the rest of the team are very friendly and accommodating and made sure I had all my evidence in place for tax and insurance together with the invoice etc. Dale also adjusted the settings to suit me and explained all the buttons and gadgets to improve my driving experience. They have great deals in place (my extensive comparative analysis and due diligence was conducted) and I am happy with my purchase. I would not hesitate to purchase again in the future. Thank you Tom, Dale and extended RS Car Sales Team

23/04/2026 Just to add....I do have a sensor/radar fault to contend with and Toyota Main Dealers diagnostic is that car was damaged/ repaired on the front (not disclosed to HPI) ....but 7 months later I'm still waiting for the Toyota Main Dealer to get the budget to buy the recalibration tool to Fix? the problem..........life is too short.....I have read the negative reviews.....it is as it is....cars are mechanical and will have problems......these guys at RS are great....sometimes they have to be a bit "ruthless"...if they cave in to "pussys"....they won't be here in business to get you great deals....I would have no hesitation in rebuying again from RS! I love my Toyota "Panther" Supra....Thanks again TOM!

Pay Extra and Save Later

I bought the car and thought I was getting a good deal as it had everything I was looking for without breaking the bank. However, I’ve come to realise they plastered over the faults. There are multiple features in the car which they’ve covered over which cheap overlays which start to peel or the colour fades after being touched by a wet tissue! There are scratches which they temporarily cover that soon become apparent once it’s been through a car wash. I sincerely wish I had paid a little extra and bought the car from a more reputable seller and not some two-bit cowboy with the attitude of an angry toddler.

A review left between 1am and 2am.

Pretty sure if you are using wet tissue to wipe parts of your car in the early hours you have some more deep rooted issues than the actions of the angry toddler and two bit cowboy business we proudly represent.

I assume your interior light works for flashing in the car parks in the small hours Paul?

I assume if this was genuine we would have some sort of contact from 'Paul' and would know about any issue or problem from a phonecall, email or letter ( perhaps written on soggy tissue).

All the best,

AVOID THIS PLACE - SAVE THE HASSLE!

Avoid this place. One of the worst car-buying experiences I’ve had. From the start, staff were evasive and vague — like they didn’t want to be transparent. I tried multiple times to leave a deposit to secure a vehicle. They said they’d get back to me — they never did. I chased them daily, arranged a viewing for a specific date, followed up constantly… only to be told the car was sold.

To be clear — the car being sold isn’t the issue. That’s the nature of the business. But the way they handled it was unacceptable. After chasing repeatedly and clearly showing serious intent, they strung me along with no update, no confirmation, and clearly no intention of selling to me. It felt deliberate, like they just didn’t want to deal with me and would rather keep me waiting.

When you ask fair, basic questions about things like service history or condition, you're labelled as “tricky” and “hard to deal with.” Completely unprofessional. The negative reviews are accurate — their attitude comes across clearly, even on the phone.

They advertise cars that aren’t prepped or ready, just to generate interest, then go silent when it’s time to commit. A total time-waster.

Don’t be fooled by their “night edition” styling or cosmetic gimmicks. I’ve since had quotes — you can easily buy the spec you want from a proper, reputable dealer and have a wrapper do the rest for cheap. Sandblasting wheels, wrapping trims, replacing grilles — it’s all easy, affordable stuff. There’s no value in what they’re offering — it’s just dressed-up stock with poor service behind it.

I’ve now bought from a real dealership where the process was smooth, respectful, and professional. The difference is night and day. Save yourself the hassle — don’t waste your time with this company.

A company full of lies and decit. They clearly lied around aspects of the vehicle and not transparent.

BUY ELSEWHERE SAVE YOURSELF THE STRESS!

Appears from looking at the other responses - they have all the reasons in the book.

Hi Robert,

You enquired about a few GLC models we had for sale one Saturday and wanted to come out to view.

You asked about a specific 22 plate grey GLC which had just arrived which wasn't available at that time and was not going to be ready until a bit later on in the week.

You asked quite a lot of questions which is normal buyer behaviour. They were answered fully and informatively.

You asked quite a lot of unusual questions which are not normal and the person you were dealing with, who is paid to sell cars and has over 10 years experience thought perhaps the call was a wind up, a competitor fishing for info or something odd. The questions involved who we buy our cars from and where had we got it from specifically. You also asked who and how various modifications and enhancements are carried out by.
When we didn't spill our trade secrets you asked what we were hiding. For a salesperson to not want to deal with you or sell to you isn't that normal in our business and having listened in on your call recordings I can quite clearly see why.

The salesman tried to move it along politely without hurting your feelings and you asked about leaving a deposit. Immediately upon asking about leaving a deposit you asked if you could switch the deposit to another one or two cars if you preferred them.
I can see how taking a deposit and holding three cars off sale for a week worked for you as a buyer to come out and then either pick one or none and continue your search. For us as a business it doesn't. You didn't like that we declined to take your deposit as you did not know what car you wanted. We advised we would let you know when the car was ready.

In the meantime someone normal came along who agreed to buy the car and asked for it to be delivered. They asked normal questions which were answered, the asked how much delivery costs and agreed to pay and turned out to be a hassle free transaction for both us and them.
You had called again on the Monday asking when the car would be ready having been told on the Saturday it wouldn't be ready until the end of the week. You called again on the Tuesday and asked the same again.

When informed the car had sold on Wednesday you completely lost it and told us that we should have called you to give you the chance to buy it as you were first in line.

Cars sell when a deal is done namely with payment or a deposit. Serious intent does not buy cars.

For anyone reading we often have 5/6 people all wanting the same car. This is why you will often find we have 3/4 very similar models and specifications of cars in stock at anytime.
We don't necessarily want to sell to every single person who wants to buy from us. Many years experience tells us that people who would give an aspirin a headache before the sale don't get any better after buying and often develop into something of a migraine.
