Bad beer, badly run, smoking in bar.
The Bullet Pub in Grimethorpe, Barnsley.
The ceiling in the small room has collapsed making the entire room smell of damp, this happened well over a year ago and has still yet to be addressed.
The main pub also is now smelling of damp, although the reason for this is unknown.
The beer, Sovereign and Old Brewery is hit and miss as to whether its drinkable as more often that not at least one of them is off, sometimes both including the lager, I can only deduct that this is due to the pipes not being regularly cleaned.
What has prompted me to contact you further, was the events of Friday the 3rd of June 2022. Due to the Jubilee Celebrations, there was more than the usual two or three people in the pub, on arrival I was told that Sovereign was off as it was undrinkable, so I ordered a pint of Old Brewery, this was drinkable but not brilliant. After consuming this, I ordered another, but as it didn’t taste good, I left it.
I feel the quality of the beer is extremely poor, but I know this is not due to the Breweries fault, as less than a mile up the road is another Sam Smiths pub, “The Red Rum”, here the atmosphere is welcoming, the pub is clean, the beer is always extremely good.
What prompted me further to leave early from the Bullet on Friday the 3rd of June, was not only the poor beer, but the actions of the other patrons which were allowed and condoned by the “landlady”. Swearing was prevalent with phones also being used, (not tolerated in Sam Smiths pubs), however what topped it off, was smoking and vaping in the bar, again the landlady behind the bar, (present for a change), watching it take place with no action or consequence as she laughed at the proceedings.
I’ve been going to the Bullet pub for a number of years, but since the current landlady has been running it, the premises and the beverage quality have slowly declined into a place that is not pleasant to visit. It seems to be run now not as a pub, but the landlady’s personal bar, allowing anything to go.
I’m aware that Sam Smiths Brewery has very high standards, with some being reported as extreme. It has been reported in the press that landlords in the past have been dismissed due to someone swearing in their establishment, but the Bullet Pub is allowed to carry on in this manner with no consequences or recourse.
There are regularly no customers in the Bullet, and I’ve been there on a Friday night with one other person there.
The atmosphere is bad, the building needs refurbishment or at least general maintenance and the beer as previously mentioned is regularly undrinkable. Could you therefore please explain to me how Sam Smiths, with their high standards, allow this person to continue to run this establishment into the ground with no consequences?
This is about the Lobster in Redcar
This is about the Lobster in Redcar , but could be any Sam Smiths pub.Empty on a Monday lunch we had to sit outside in a corner with our dog and friends.Ridiculous in 2022 , whole empty pub! We only stopped because we were pushed for time and the barman was so nice and helpful. The food and drink were nice but we paid £60 .Will never set foot in a Sam Smiths again on principle.Plenty of room for dog owners and dog haters alike , and they only took cash.Businesses are for customers, unless you are mr sam smith
Sad day for Smith's brewery

Would give it no stars if possible.
Went to one in York tonight on the river Kings Arms. Overpriced limited drinks and surprisingly hardly anyone inside but quite a few people outside.
My wife and I went in and we were not very well greeted by the bar staff. Anyway ordered 2 drinks and sat inside, before we left my wife went to use the ladies and I quickly used my phone to check if I had any messages from my daughter who is 17 and on her own at our home for the first time when one of the women behind the bar told me I could not use my phone. After telling her the situation she argued if I did and the boss walked in she would be in big trouble. He comes in regular she said, only lives 20 miles away she said and goes to all his pubs checking she said (even though he has 200 pubs I found out later so he must be a superhuman ) I have never come across anything as ridiculous in my life and will never set foot in this pub ever again.

Absolutely rubbish visited high field…
Absolutely rubbish visited high field pub in Scunthorpe worst place and staff I have ever been . Rude bar staff and terrible drinks . 2 double gin and lemonade and 2 peach snaps 20 pounds 50 pence drinks served in tall glass with no ice or anything warm lemonade and gin . Cash only so had to go 5 mins to cash machine . When complained owner and partner both sat there drinking alcohol said if you don’t like it go elsewhere we get paid . Disgraceful will never go there again . If I was you neither would I for rude and ignorant staff who don’t care as their getting paid . My advice is do not go there unless you are sad . 2 other people in the place and they left soon after do not give them your custom ad their is lots of good places nearby cheaper and with good service . This pubs owners deserve to be sacked never been spoken to like they did a disgrace to Samuel smiths as I have Ben a fan of their brewery until this .
No Phones and No Swearing - Ridiculous!
After an experience in a Samuel Smiths pub in Whitby, I shall never go in another. No phones? No swearing? All draconically enforced. Apparently those who individually run the pubs are made to enforce these silly rules or face getting shut down by Sam Smiths. It strikes me as unnecessarily harsh. Sounds to me like the owner of Sam Smiths is a sad, bitter old dinosaur who needs to get a grip. I was trying to read a news article from my phone and have a discussion about it, but no, the staff stepped in and told my group to put our phones away. When challenged about the policy, the staff were downright rude. "What's not to understand about the policy?" they said. This brewery needs to stop tying their staff's hands and get in the 21st century, because honestly, this is petty. You are not going to hold back the tide of people using mobile devices in pubs forever.
Samuel Smiths Pubs- lost the plot
Visited my local pub, one of the 200 pubs owned and run by Samuel Smiths Brewery. As much as I applaud the ethos of a quiet pub without juke boxes or TV's, where people can talk sociably without having to compete with background noise, I have to say the new rules are a step too far!
All digital/mobile devices are banned, no phones/tablets/laptops allowed. I was told this was to encourage interaction between people however I fell foul of this rule when I went into the pub with my friend for a pint while we compared each others holiday snaps. As soon as I got my phone out to show the pictures I was told to put it away, or take it outside!
Now I ask you what could be more sociable than having a drink and sharing your holiday stories and pictures?
Samuel Smiths get a grip, drop this mad rule and allow people to be sociable in a PUBLIC HOUSE.
