So many bugs and impossible to report. Trash customer service on that end.

At our university, we use CMC.CA for the licenses. My account logins to use cmc.ca don't let me log in to Solidworks platform to give feedback, like they're not valid.

So I'm not able to give feedback or report bugs even though I have an active license through cmc.ca.

My main feedback is that Solidworks got worse through the years. Now even basic symmetry function adds artefacts that aren't deletable so you just have to reproduce the functions manually. I feel like only 1/2 the symmetries work property without adding glitches and I'm talking about symmetry on Cut extrudes. There's no other fix than doing it manually. And you can't report bugs properly.

For such a big company worth millions, it's pretty damn ridiculous to not get the basics.

Paid subscription, no access, no support

I paid for SOLIDWORKS xDesign for Makers, received the “Get started” email, and still cannot access the platform due to an “Access denied” error.

To make it worse, even the official support form does not work, so I cannot report the issue.

This has been a complete waste of money and valuable time. Very frustrating experience and a terrible start with a paid product.

Experience going downhill, prices going uphill

I have been a user of SolidWorks for more than 25 years. It is excellent software that lets you be creative and design what you want. Unfortunately, over the last 15 years, the useful features for the average mechanical engineer have remained the same, while the price has rocketed. At the same time, the user interface has become unstable, it crashes frequently (especially when using STEP or non-SW files), the online platform requires multiple updates every month, and it takes 10 clicks and many minutes to load. In short, it is the epitome of enshittification.

Solidworks losing ground due to bugs.

I've een using Solidworks professionally since 2006 - so 20 years.
In recent years it seems to have got worse & worse. I was forced to update to 2026 SP 2 as one of my clients was using it - and sorely regret it. There are so many small but annoying bugs & glitches that just shouldn't occur in software I'm paying £2k per year for.
Unfortunately Dassault seemingly don't care. There are bugs which have existed for years if not decades.
By SP 5 many of the problems will have been fixed - but why do they come back in the first release of the next version?
Other CAD software has it's problems too - but it feels like SW is losing ground to them more & more as time goes by.
I use OnShape personally (I can't use cloud software professionally due to ITAR etc) and it's amazing by comparison. It feels like they do care about the users.

Solidworks web interface is a disaster

The program is unusable way too often, every other week SW is out of service and I cant use it, the web verification is just a nightmare that works sometimes. When I get to actually use SW its amazing except for when it crashes and it didn't want to autosave. I've used SW for ~5 years and the first 3 years of SW student version worked flawlessly but now with maker I need to verify it to the internet every time I open it. This new year the program deleted itself but thankfully my models were ok. Just today I've had 8 attempt launches and I'm not able to use it yet, it wants me to use the link "solidworks_dot_com/support/downloads" and download the newer version but the thing is that the link on this support page doesn't work

Shit software

Dont get me wrong the simulation side is awesome but its about as intuitive as trying to bowl a semitruck down a mountain and trying to get it to fly. the user interface is terrible and it always does the opposite of what you want

Pull Your Hair Out

This software is simply not worth the investment, especially when there are far superior alternatives available. It’s difficult to understand how it became the industry standard, given the frustration it causes. Businesses and universities should seriously reconsider their reliance on it. In most cases, Inventor, Catia, NX etc are a far better choice.

Solidworks Maker or Design

Solidworks Maker or Design. It´s a pain. Don´t save the documents even if you ask to. Forces you to update more than what you use the program. Fails all the time. Really bad application.

I've never seen such a bad paid…

I've never seen such a bad paid interface in my entire life!
I could tolerate it if it were free, but no, I'm paying! I don't understand why they made such a terrible interface, because SolidWorks has immense capabilities.
The customer service is just as bad as the interface... I recommend it if you're looking for good CAD software, but you have to be able to keep your cool for several hours...

Bought a one year licence. Needs update to launch. Being denied access, I can only conclude one thing. Total shite! Now using Autodesk Inventor without any issues.

Solidworks

Solidworks, like other ££££ CAD software is capable, very capable however Dassault Systemes have made the user experience extremely complicated from download to design. The overall experience is so infuriating that I am warning prospective users to choose another provider. I can not express this clearly enough: DO NOT USE Dassault Systemes products if you just want to design things quickly and easily without too much complication. The HotFix for patch releases does not work very well at all. The offline version of Solidworks requires a login to 3D Experience for some unknown reason and the 3D Creator navigation is a mess for web app based CAD.
It is so bad.

Not honouring my refund and non existent customer service

I have purchased a one year subscription of Solidworks. However, the usability of the software is very poor. The whole SolidWorks environment is very messy and it appears like patch after patch has been added. So I requested a refund which I am entitled to as promised by Solidworks. This refund still hasn't been paid to me. This is after more than 10 days and several requests. I only get automatic replies. The customer support is not existent to the point that it ends up being like a scam. Stay away. There are much better solutions on the market, especially if you are not invested in this product yet. Don't waste your time learning it.

Sistema commerciale truffaldino

Hanno un furbissimo sistema commerciale truffaldino, omettono informazioni importanti sulla frequenza dei pagamenti, sul fatto che i pagamenti sono anticipati anche se per tutta la fase di contrattazione sono sempre espressi annualmente. Difficile credere che sia un caso, è un sistema collaudato che da più di un decennio ci riserva sorprese OGNI volta che abbiamo a che fare con loro. Le offerte vengono mandate via testo mail e le info più delicate vengono comunicate telefonicamente, in modo che non ci sia nessuna documentazione ufficiale e che possano disattendere la parola data. I contratti inviati lasciano spazio a libere interpretazioni quindi la delusione è assicurata!
Sul loro sito non c'è modo di mandare una recensione e la chat permette solo di aprire ticket!
In tutto questo il software ha molti bugs e va in conflitto con la maggior parte degli altri software, richiedendo l'utilizzo di una macchina dedicata! Una macchina per soldi niente male!!
Consiglio di tornare al tecnigrafo

Ongeëvenaard, als je het wat tijd geeft!

Tot nu toe geen negatieve ervaringen met downtime en dergelijke gehad maar ik gebruik dit pas net een maandje. En in die korte tijd ben ik helemaal gewend geraakt. Dit programma is ontzettend krachtig, zelfs voor hobbyisten en voor thuisgebruik betaalbaar. De versie voor professionals is onbetaalbaar, maar DS heeft hier duidelijk rekening gehouden met niet-commerciële gebruikers. Dat is geweldig. De software voelt, als je een paar dagen de tijd neemt om het te leren, echt ontzettend intuïtief. Het werkt hetzelfde als vroeger op een tekentafel met een potlood, een lineaal en een passer. Lijntjes trekken op papier en daar afmetingen bij zetten. Deze software kan werkelijk alles dat een beetje technisch is in 3D maken. En je kunt de afmetingen heel exact met hoge precisie definiëren, bijvoorbeeld voor de 3D printer met 0.1mm tolerantie. Hopelijk blijft dit voorlopig goed werken want ik ben helemaal tevreden op dit moment!

SolidWorks : de pire en pire !

Bonjour,
J’espère que ce message sera lu par quelqu’un chez Dassault Systèmes.

C’est tout simplement lamentable.
Dans un premier temps, on vous impose la version "cloud", avec des mises à jour toutes les trois semaines. Résultat : perte des liens, disparition des pièces personnalisées, ou alors nécessité de désinstaller et réinstaller le logiciel en entier.

Après des mois de demandes, vous finissez par nous repasser en version locale… mais ce n’est pas mieux. Le logiciel plante sur de simples esquisses 3D, rate des sauvegardes et devient totalement instable.

Franchement, certains logiciels gratuits font mieux, c’est aberrant.
Et que dire des versions Standard / Pro / Premium ? Même en Premium, censé offrir des outils avancés, on se retrouve avec un module piping qui perd sa bibliothèque de composants… totalement inutilisable.

Mon expérience avec SolidWorks ne fait que se dégrader au fil du temps.

If you're a hobbyist

If you're a hobbyist, or trying to learn the program before purchasing the full license, go somewhere else. The entire platform has quit working and, as everyone else has stated, their customer service is absolute trash. They are thieves who steal the money for the maker license, and then refuse to provide a product.
