I had a really positive experience…because our house purchase was processed very smoothly and stress free

I had a really positive experience working with Liam Johnson during our house purchase. From the outset he was friendly, approachable and extremely supportive, which made a big difference as the process can feel overwhelming.
Liam communicated clearly throughout and was always happy to explain things or answer questions as they came up. He handled everything with great professionalism and care, and it was obvious that he was dedicated to making sure the transaction progressed smoothly and correctly.

I’m very grateful for the reassurance and support Liam provided and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone looking for a solicitor who is professional, reliable and genuinely pleasant to deal with.

Buying first house

I couldn’t recommend Liam highly enough. As a first‑time buyer, the process felt daunting at times, but Liam was consistently helpful, supportive and friendly from start to finish. He always took the time to explain things clearly, responded promptly to questions, and made sure I felt informed and reassured at every stage.
Liam’s professionalism and dedication were evident throughout. He was thorough, proactive and clearly very knowledgeable, which gave me real confidence in how my purchase was being handled. It was reassuring to deal with someone who genuinely cared about getting everything right and who approached the work with such diligence.

Cease and Desist

I attended an appointment here this morning that I had made after taking advice from the law centre. This was regarding a cease and desist letter I wanted sent to a family member who keeps posting pictures and videos online of my deceased daughter,  The solicitor was Howard Nulty, he was unprofessional and made me feel uncomfortable, treated me as though I was stupid saying that sending a letter would do no good. When various family members that know the individual all think that a letter would be enough to stop this. I was told that I have no right to protect my daughter's pictures , and protect her daughters being upset by seeing these posts online.  And was told can't you just ignore it? He seemed like he just couldn't be bothered, I was clearly getting upset yet he still kept on trying to push for mediation instead, when this matter has clearly gone way past that. If he had no intention of doing the letter then why waste my time giving an appointment. After I said yes I still wanted a letter done , I was told it's £600 plus VAT paid now. This wasn't an issue as I had brought the funds with me to pay today, it just felt like a demand pay now then I will do the letter. I would have gladly paid twice that amount to get this done and stop all the upset that is being caused .At this point I was upset and didn't want to be crying, I didn't feel comfortable in his presence and left saying I would get another solicitor to do the letter. The previous solicitor and reception staff I dealt with were all lovely and professional. And this review is purely based on the experience with Mr Nulty. However the experience has put me off using the law centre again.

Terrible communication

No matter how often you contact them for a response, they will continue to ignore you - they have no shame. A simple, straightforward service I requested and paid for, was told it would be done by the end of last year, is still ongoing now in March. Save yourself a lot of frustration and go elsewhere.

Rude staff!

Rude staff!
£150 to sign a form and they carnt even do that right.
When i explained that it was incorrect i was basically called a liar, Only seconds later for them to actually check that the staff infact hadnt signed it properly . No appology!
This place is a joke and the staff have zero customer service skills .. i would hate for people have to deal with this place for a more sensative matter.

Unfortunately i had to give this Company a one star rating not my choice they don't deserve any positive ratings make you wait months for a simple email reply then they advise the solicitor who was dealing with your case has left the practice and your back to square one sending sending multiple emails no reply, My advise is to avoid this Company as they are terrible

Their advice or rather the lack of it could have got me in serious trouble. Enquiry was around rules of intestacy when someone dies without a will. Deborah Murphy took 4 weeks to come back with something she could have checked then and there. Just rubbish communication and failed promised actions. Avoid them ...

I would not use this law firm if it was…

I would not use this law firm if it was the last one left on earth. It would receive no stars if possible. How it can be allowed to operate and that some of the solicitors are actually licensed to practice law remains a complete mystery to me.
I was strung along for nearly two years on a medical malpractice claim. The two solicitors I dealt with were non-communicative, unprofessional and frankly incompetent beyond anything I could ever imagine
Not to mention one solicitor couldn't be bothered to put on a suit or stop biting his nails in the few meetings we had!
This firm then dropped my case with no proper notice or explanation.
I have reported them to the Ombudsman.
I have new legal representation now who can't believe how my case was handled. However, I have lost money and valuable time.
This is NOT about losing a lawsuit, mine never even got that far.
We in St. Helens should expect thoughtful, fair and competent representation.
Why we should have to put up with firms such as this masquerading as such is something our local government should investigate. AVOID at all costs, unless you want to be just another scammed individual looking for real help and ending up losing money, being badly treated, and being made to feel like you're the problem...AWFUL all around!

They flat out do not communicate

I used them twice for two different house purchases. Ended up with a solicitors called SHL in St Helens. I am 8 weeks into two cash purchases and have no idea where the process is up to. SHL and their conveyancing department flat out do not communicate or respond to my emails, one of the estate agents has gone nearly 6 weeks without a reply from Debbie from SHL. I genuinely have no idea where the process is up to. I call them they do not reply or call back even after staff say they will. I leave voicemails for them and they do not reply, I email they do not reply. I see google reviews stating they turned over some houses in 28 days. Yet I cannot get a reply to a email or phone call? What have I done so wrong to be treated like this?

I cannot recommend them based on this. I now have two house purchases in limbo my next step is to complain to a regulator.

I would give SHL ten stars if i could , i recently had to deal with ny brothers estate. the support i was given was very professional yet personal. i came out after my initial visit feeling a weight was lifted off my shoulders. Thsnk you so much. SHL.

PLEASE AVOID - read our experience

I would have given no stars if it were possible. I am shocked at the reviews on here already and felt it necessary to review my experience honestly on here.

My problems with St Helens Law happened almost 2yrs ago. However, it has taken almost that long for the legal ombudsman to review my case and uphold many of the aspects I complained about. SO I didn't want to jeopardise anything. I have been given permission to review STH by the legal ombudsman has the case is now finished. A tiny amount of compensation has been paid and they have washed their hands of it. Firstly, I want to warn people it takes around 18mths for the ombudsman to hear your case. They are so snowed under with cases right now. Also, there is only a certain amount of compensation that can be awarded and it is minimal, not acceptable at all. So please be aware before appointing a solicitor. We had an awful time.

We originally appointed a team of solicitors in Warrington to deal with both the sale of our house and the purchase of a bungalow. However, one left the firm and they were struggling for suitably qualified staff so we reluctantly moved the purchase of the bungalow to St Helens Law and left the sale of our house with the Warrington solicitors.

We explained how this had caused delay and we're reassured by St Helens Law it would be dealt with quickly. From then on it was almost impossible to contact St Helens Law. The other solicitors couldn't get them to reply. Every time we did get to speak to them, nothing was any further on. Our buyers grew restless and we told STH this. They kept saying they were waiting for one thing or another but were never specific. Our other solicitor was frantic. After STH dragged their feet for weeks, just before Christmas, our buyer pulled out.

I was furious. I sent an email to St Helens Law asking them just where we were with progress and that the buyer had pulled out due to the delay. I was firm but polite. I asked to be referred to the complaints procedure. By return I was told they were not dealing with us any more due to 'client relationship breakdown'! I'd hardly had chance to speak to them! They told us we had to pay in full -price set as if the whole sale had been completed - or they wouldn't release all the documents. They held us to ransom.

We needed a bungalow for my husband's increasing ill health, we already had other potential buyers viewing. We had no choice but to pay them. When I paid I told them it was under duress and we were very unhappy with the service. I got a letter by return saying that they were closing the complaint as I must have been happy or I wouldn't have paid!

All through this there was a level of rudeness from management I wouldn't expect from solicitors.

The stress they put us through was unbelievable. The Legal Ombudsman let us start a case straight away due to their dismissing the complaints procedure but it was 18mths later before we even heard from them. They found the level of service far beneath what should be expected and awarded us around 20% of what we had lost to this firm. We had to pay another solicitor to basically start from scratch and received no discount as little work was done! It cost us dearly. I reported STH to the SolicitorsRegulationAuthority but just received a letter saying they only look at more serious breaches of the rules....so basically, fraud and not quality of service. So they wouldn't deal with this. So I am saying PLEASE BE AWARE YOU HAVE LITTLE OR NO REDRESS IF A SOLICITOR TREATS YOU BADLY. Dealing with St Helens Law was a horrific experience for us. AVOID

Excellent Service from the Conveyance Staff

I used SHL to sell my mother’s home while going through the probate process. Leanne dealt with the sale and handled this professionally and provided an excellent service going above and beyond. The buyers solicitors were asking for unnecessary details and processes but Leanne dealt with these quickly and with professionalism. The sale took 4 months to go through and would have taken longer had the buyers solicitor got their way. I was thoroughly pleased with the service I received from SHL and would used their services again when I need it. Many thanks Leanne to you and the team in dealing with this sale for the family.

Exceptional Service and Support

Working with Victoria was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. She was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and efficient throughout the entire process. Victoria always went above and beyond to make sure that we were well-informed and comfortable with every step of the transaction. She was patient and understanding with any questions or concerns we had, and she made sure to address them promptly and thoroughly.

One thing that really stood out to us about Victoria was her attention to detail. She never missed a beat and made sure that everything was done to the highest standard. We always felt like we were in good hands with Victoria and that she had our best interests at heart.
