We referred a client to the SWW Trust Corporation as they needed a Grant of Probate to sell a property and handle the closure of some accounts.

The team advised my client with regards to the process, and they were happy with this and the service provided.

This is very important to me as a business owner trusting another firm to take good care of my clients when I refer them for other services.

I shall be using the team again in the future.

I needed to have my property transferred and the team at the SWWTC assisted with this, the legalities and timescales were explained fully so we were aware of what was involved. Great service

Horrible company to have to deal with.
I have requested figures from Frances 8 times now since the end of March 2024.
I offered a solution to this never ending inheritance issue but couldn’t proceed because the lack of figures made it impossible.

It is now June 26/06/24, still no figures and no explanation.

Do not use this company unless you wish to cause your loved ones health impacting misery.

Still no figures or any contact from SWW Trust.

I just tried calling you as you suggested. You’re closed.
Further misinformation. And still no figures.

It is with regret that based on our own experience we wouldn't recommend using Olivers Legal Services or Sww Trust.
It turned out to be a very expensive mistake as there were one or two serious errors that were fortunately identified before progressing further.
This has left us regretting our decision to go with either.

SWW Trust Corporation are professional and efficient in all matters. My experience, in all dealings, has been been excellent. Jordan, in particular, communicates regularly and clearly in a manner which is understood.

If you or a loved one has appointed these people as your executors, possibly off the back of a recommendation by a SWW will writer, then you need to be aware of some serious issues with them.

My dad appointed them and when he passed away the first thing I found is that one of the family had to fork out £400 upfront and sign a letter of engagement with them before they will start work. This is to cover upfront costs but that wasn't mentioned to my dad when he appointed them, or to my wife and I who had also appointed them around the same time for our estate (we changed our wills to get rid of them as Executors).

Once I had paid I found that they provided no upfront advice on dealing with funeral directors and accessing dad's bank money to pay for the funeral and interment. I had to ask to get any answers, and even then some of what they told me was wrong, which proved very embarrassing when I went to one of the banks, and wasted a lot of time.

Dad had a flat to sell and we decided to allow the Execs to handle that. They appointed a form of "broker" who coordinated three local agents to provide suggested valuations for the flat. If you go down that route they charge 1.75% plus VAT, way over the cost if you appoint the estate agent yourself. And to make matters worse, the broker is part of the Execs company.

The Execs also appointed the conveyancer, but be aware that the costs are £200 or £300 more than if you appoint one yourself.

And having let them do the appointments you then find you do all the work with the estate agent and you get no updates from the Execs.

Throughout the process I had to ask for updates or information, virtually nothing was offered up by them.

And at the end, the fees for the Execs were based on the original marketing price for the flat, not the final selling price. Sharp practice to say the least, so be very careful what value you put the property on the market at. And the estate agents fees included costs that we were not told about up front and a month on from final settlement we are still waiting for the details.

And finally, when it came to the settlement of the estate to the beneficiaries, only then did SWW send the link to an app to confirm our identities, further delaying settlement. This should have been done right at the outset for each of the beneficiaries. Their Treasury department must be laughing each day with the interest they accrue whilst they sit on money that rightfully belongs to others.

So, if you want to overpay for a shoddy service that you can do yourself, be aware of the nasty surprises and the aggro that will come your way.

Your response to this review just about sums you up. "You will be kept informed and updated every step of the way" says your web site. Some hope.

I cannot find anywhere in the terms where the term "gross" is defined in the way you use it. I would expect it to mean the actual value realised before expenses, not some vague idea of an estimated value of a property or other asset, which is what you use. This leaves you massive leeway to get excessive valuations and estimates.

I never said we weren't denied the opportunity to use our own conveyancer, only that yours cost far too much. Given the issues we had experienced with you to that point we did not dare appoint our own out of fear that if anything had gone wrong we would have been blamed for our choice and your would have lumped in additional fees to compensate for any additional effort. I spoke to three conveyancers and none of them could believe that your were charging £1000 for the sale of a lease property.

You have failed to address the question as to why the identity checks were made so late in the day.

You have clearly identified the estate from my name and you claim there is still work outstanding on it. Well, it would have been nice if you had bothered to keep me up to date. I haven't had anything on the queries I raised over a month ago.

Like I said at the start, your reply just about sums you up.

Trustpilot ask that reviewers make constructive suggestions to help those businesses reviewed improve their service. My suggestion at this stage is a change of legislation to close this company down, and this industry is currently being reviewed by the Consumer Marketing Authority. In the meantime there should be a change in personnel. This company, who are not solicitors, and are not covered by the Legal Ombudsman, have been dealing with my father’s probate since 2015. It’s not their fault entirely that things have been held up: foreign properties, family fallout. I have been paid out a ball park figure of the estate, but that’s not how it should be. At first, service was professional. Since 2021, there was a change of personnel, and after a slew of anomalies came to light in the estate accounts, for instance a spectacular overshoot of 3x the amount estimated for expenses on French and Spanish properties, and also a legal bill on behalf of another family member, (not even commissioned or seen by SWWTrust), for £3k was paid and passed off as ‘notary advice’. On protest the latter was removed at the time, but now appears to have been put back on the bill, judging by the monies dispersed, but no accounts have been presented, so what do I know? I’ve been asking for the estate bank account statements for years to no avail. Quite a lot of money in their hands for 8 years - how much interest? How much sterling was paid for French invoices? The currency conversion rate, which I had to deduce from an obfuscating Excel spreadsheet rather than the actual banking transactions, is way off those of the dates. I’m treated not as a client, but as a nuisance. My estate manager and chairman of the company says he will only perform one task at a time - it doesn’t matter how urgent matters are - eg I asked for IHT computations prior to a meeting on Sept 11th regarding my mother’s probate, gave 9 working day’s notice, and they arrived just after the meeting, because he was then satisfied I’d filled out a form correctly on a different matter. He complains to me about running this company, working on a Sunday, as if I should be grateful for this terrible service given the inconvenience I’m giving him. He has confected a story that I upset one of his employees, (she tried to pressure me into agreeing a settlement with no knowledge of details of the estate - on the phone.) I felt bullied into a settlement - what I wanted was fiscal data, and for them to fulfil their emailed assurances about how the estate would be settled. Apparently she couldn’t have pressured me because she’s ‘an upright Christian’. Because of this ruse I’m now not allowed to talk to anyone else in the company, maybe so other personnel don’t know what a mess this is. Their ‘regulatory body’ the Society of Will Writers, who I was told by the Legal Ombudsman I could appeal to, shares a director with this company and the companies’ HQs are 5 minutes apart. This director won’t answer my calls, or emails and is busy arranging conferences, making claims about protecting clients. It’s a farce.
