Aggressive and deeply unprofessional sales behaviour after cancellation

We were initially contacted by the marketing team at Think Green Partners and offered a “free assessment” of our solar panels. After some persuasion, we agreed to a survey, which was carried out by their engineer, John Henderson.
During the visit, we were sold a 10-year maintenance plan for £4,000. As we did not have the funds available to make a one-off payment, John then assisted us in applying for an interest-free credit card in order to pay for it. We were also told that our inverter was broken and were offered a “free” inverter replacement if we signed up to the 10-year plan.
After taking time to think about it and doing some research, we decided we were not comfortable proceeding and exercised our right to cancel. We contacted the company by both email and phone to cancel the plan.
We were told that John would call us to explain the next steps.
What happened next was absolutely unacceptable.
When John phoned, he initially seemed unsure why he was even calling. Once I explained that we had changed our minds and cancelled the plan, his entire attitude changed. The conversation quickly became pushy, confrontational, and deeply inappropriate.

For around 20 minutes, instead of simply accepting our cancellation professionally, he repeatedly questioned our decision and demanded to know what we were going to do about our broken inverter and cleaning/protecting the panels. I explained that we had our own plans in place, but he would not let it go.
He then went so far as to start making personal comments about my son, questioning whether he was qualified or insured to help us, and even *googled my son’s workplace during the call in an attempt to “prove” his point. This was completely outrageous, intrusive, and none of his business whatsoever.

Even after I clearly told him that:

* our family arrangements were none of his concern
* his assumptions were inappropriate
* his tone was becoming unpleasant and unprofessional
* and that he needed to accept that customers are allowed to change their minds
…he continued.
He then tried to pressure us again by offering a **5-year plan for £2,000**, while claiming he was “not being nasty” but was “very offended.”
Let me be clear:
A customer cancelling a service does not justify being spoken to in a pushy, berating, defensive, and frankly intimidating manner.
By the end of the call, I felt extremely shaken, angry, and upset. I had to hang up because he simply would not stop.
This experience has completely destroyed any trust or respect I had for both John Henderson and Think Green Partners. What began as a professional interaction turned into one of the most uncomfortable and aggressive sales follow-up calls I have ever experienced.
My advice to others:
Be extremely cautious.
If you decide to cancel, do not expect that decision to be respected professionally.
This felt less like customer service and more like harassment after cancellation.
No customer should be made to feel pressured, interrogated, or personally criticised for exercising their right to change their mind.
Based on my experience, I would strongly advise anyone considering this company to think very carefully before signing anything.
Absolutely unacceptable customer service.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. We take all customer concerns seriously and would like to address several points raised in your review.

Firstly, we want to be clear that our intention is always to provide customers with accurate information about their solar systems and offer solutions where issues are identified. During the assessment, our engineer highlighted concerns regarding your inverter based on his professional judgement, and any recommendations made were intended to prevent future system inefficiencies or failures.

Regarding the maintenance plan, this was offered as an optional service designed to provide long-term protection and support. The pricing and terms were explained at the time, and the decision to proceed — including the method of payment — was made with your agreement. At no point is any customer obligated to move forward, and we do respect the right to cancel within the appropriate period.

We do acknowledge your decision to cancel and confirm that this was processed. However, it is not unusual for a member of our team to follow up to ensure customers fully understand the implications of cancelling a service, particularly where potential system faults have been identified. This is part of our duty of care, not an attempt to cause distress.

That said, we do not condone any communication that could be perceived as personal, intrusive, or unprofessional. While we have not found evidence that the situation unfolded exactly as described, we will be addressing this internally to ensure all conversations remain appropriate and focused on customer needs.

We are sorry to hear that you felt uncomfortable during the call, as this was not our intention. Our team is trained to provide guidance and explore alternatives where appropriate, which may include discussing revised options such as shorter-term plans.

We remain confident in the quality of our services and the integrity of our team, but we will take your feedback on board as part of our ongoing efforts to improve. Should you wish to discuss this matter further, we are happy to review your case directly.

Kind regards,

Think Green Partners

I’ve been trying to be a customer of TGP for about two months now. Had a call about fitting pigeon protection to my solar panels, had the engineer out, expected a quote. Nothing. Asked for a call back, nothing, left voicemails, nothing. Got a quote on the phone, asked for it to be emailed. Nothing. Promised an email by the end of the day. Nothing. It shouldn’t be this hard to give someone your business.

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to leave this feedback, and I’m really sorry to hear about your experience. You’re absolutely right — it shouldn’t be difficult to get a quote or a follow-up when you’re ready to move forward, and it’s clear we’ve fallen short here.

We apologise for the lack of communication after your engineer visit and for the missed promises regarding the quote and follow-up calls. That’s not the level of service we aim to provide, and we understand how frustrating this must have been after two months of trying to progress things.

We’d really like the opportunity to look into what happened and get this resolved for you properly. Please could you contact us at contactus@thinkgreenpartners.co.uk / 0800 292 2929 with your name, postcode, and the date of your appointment so we can answer your enquiry and make sure you receive the information you were promised.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention, and we hope we can still put things right.

Kind regards,

Each year they come to service my system, they persuade me to spend money, this year I had optimizers fitted as I was told my system had high voltage, last year I paid what I thought was more than necessary, and again this year, I am not an electrician so I am having to trust that I am not being sold something I don't really need. When I purchased the batteries, I was given a 10 year guarantee. ! I cannot afford to keep paying out money every year

Hi,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you feel this way following your recent service visits.

We understand that it can be frustrating to feel unsure about recommended work, especially when you’re relying on our expertise to guide you. Our engineers aim to identify anything that could affect the safety, performance, or longevity of your solar system, and any recommendations — such as fitting optimisers — should always be explained clearly so you can make an informed decision before proceeding.

We also want to clarify that the yearly service check is included as part of the ongoing maintenance plan you have with us. This annual service is carried out to ensure your system continues to operate safely and efficiently.

We never want customers to feel pressured into spending money on work they’re not comfortable with. Your comments about cost and communication are important, and we’d really appreciate the opportunity to review your service history and the advice that was given during your visits.

Regarding your battery warranty, we’d also be happy to check the details of your guarantee and clarify what is and isn’t covered so you have complete peace of mind.

Please feel free to contact our team at contactus@thinkgreenpartners.co.uk / 0800 292 2929 with your name and postcode so we can look into this for you and discuss your concerns properly.

Kind regards,

On-going quality service

I had a problem with one of my batteries. This was taken away and sorted out promptly and returned in good working order. This was followed up with a check on the system and the field worker who visited was helpful and informative so that I now have maintenance cover on my solar thermal system.
Always helpful admin contacts and prompt service.

Ripped off my elderly parents with…

Ripped off my elderly parents with scare tactics.
Cold called with some story about checking solar panel installations for a government scheme(this is a lie no scheme exists).
Told them their inverter needed changing and it could cause the house to burn down, signed them up to a deal to a new inverter and a maintenance plan. For nearly £4000.
My parents are getting towards 80 and it frightened them to death thinking the house may burn down, scare tactics to get a sale.
The inverter was fitted and the panels were meant to be cleaned, they had no ladders so had to borrow my dads stepladder and hose etc and didn’t want to go into the roof as it was slippy.
The old inverter which was a superior model was taken away so we will never now know if it was in fact still working fine as they’d experienced any issues in their system before this cold call.
They came back two weeks later and said there was another issue which would cost another £1800 to fix I was at my parents at this point and they told him no they weren’t paying any more and he was a cowboy at which he became aggressive rude and told them the options are to get it done or take the solar panels off the roof.
I then learnt the whole story and said to get another engineer to get a second opinion. Another engineer from another company came and said everything was fine but the new inverter was inferior and shouldn’t have cost anymore than £800 fitted.
My parents at this point had lost all trust in TGP and phoned and complained. This got them nowhere.
They contacted citizens advice who put them in contact with trading standards. They knew about TGP and had other similar complaints on file.
In the meantime a letter was sent to TGP requesting a part refund of £2500 as my mum wanted to cancel the 10 year maintenance contract as they had no trust in them.
TGP contacted my mum and agreed to the refund over the phone and said it would be sent to her bank in 5-7 days. Nearly two weeks has gone by and no refund received my mother contacted them again today and they have completely gone back on this and the lady said she’d speak to the MD and get back to her so they’ve lied again.
I’d warn everyone from using this company I wish my parents had told me and we could have got a second opinion but they scared them there and then into paying all the money upfront.

Very questionable company preying on old people who really can’t afford to lose this much money. They should be ashamed of themselves.

I’m unsure of the exact date but this happened round about mid October/early November 2025.

We would like to clarify a few points raised. We do not offer any government scheme or incentive.

Following the sale, your parents would have received a compliance call, which would have confirmed whether they were happy to proceed with the order and also confirmed that they did not feel pressured in any way. A copy of this call can be provided at their request.

The sale in question was for maintenance cover on the solar PV system—a cover which we provide to thousands of homeowners across the UK. This cover includes both parts and labour for the entire PV system and any auxiliary products, so the inverter would be just a small part of the system, which we did replace for your parents.

The cancellation has been processed after your parents decided to cancel the agreement, and all refunds are processed within 10–14 working days as stated in our terms and conditions.

Excellent engineers

TGP were initially slow to respond at first, which was a bit frustrating . However, once the engineers attended the property everything improved. Steve (for heat pump) and Alfie (for batteries and inverter)were polite, professional and clearly understood the product, taking time to explain everything thoroughly. In the end , the quality of service made the earlier delays worthwhile.

Illegal marketing call to my TPS listed number

They made an illegal call to my TPS listed phone number trying to persuade me to replace my perfectly working solar panel invertor, because it's out of warranty. Reported to the relevant authorities.

I wouldn't trust a company using illegal advertising techniques to do work on my house.

Update: The TPS organisation have already been in touch with Think Green Partners with the details of my complaint, and have asked for my number to be supressed. No more action should be needed on my part.

1 or 5 stars - a quandary

I don't know if to give 1 or 5 stars so have gone in the middle at present. Without doubt I would give 5 starts to the actual workers who carry out installations as they are very professional. Now to my quandary: Cxxxe visited me yesterday as part of my annual maintenance plan. He checked the system and told me that the batteries have been tripping due to power surges from the mains. This, he said, could cause damage to the batteries and to solve this I would need a new fuse box. My old one is over 20 yrs old and, he said, that in any case I would have to replace it before moving house to bring it up to current standards. He said I needed a new fuse box ASAP to avoid any further possible damage to my batteries (of which I have 3 costing £15k). I therefore had a new fuse box installed today costing nearly £2.5k. I am left wondering how, from the inspection, he found my batteries had been tripping. He said that remote monitoring had shown these trips but nothing had been done about it until he arrives and tells me I need to do something about it asap. Feels odd to me. TGP phoned after C's inspection and asked if I had felt pressurised. I said no, but, then saying something is required asap is a sort of its own indirect pressure. TGP have phoned me since my original review and although I'm very happy to have a new fuse the speed of which I needed one is open to question especially at a financially difficult time leading up to Xmas.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed and balanced review. We’re really pleased to hear that you have been happy with the professionalism of our installation teams, and we appreciate you recognising the work they carry out.

We completely understand your concerns regarding the recommendation made during your maintenance visit, particularly given the cost involved. We would like to clarify that our engineer’s recommendation was based on the information available from the system and the issues identified during the inspection, including the recorded battery trips. Where repeated electrical trips or fluctuations are identified, we have a responsibility to make the customer aware of the potential risks to their equipment and recommend appropriate remedial action.

We appreciate that using the word **“ASAP”** may have made the recommendation feel more urgent than intended. Our intention is never to pressure a customer into purchasing additional works. We would much rather explain what has been identified, why it may be beneficial to address it, and allow the customer to make an informed decision.

We also appreciate your comments regarding the age of your existing consumer unit. Given that it is over 20 years old, there may be good reason to consider bringing the installation up to modern standards, particularly where additional electrical equipment such as battery storage has been installed.

Following your concerns, our team has already contacted you to understand whether you felt pressured, and we are pleased that you did not feel pressured during the visit. Nevertheless, we completely understand why you have questioned the urgency and the timing of the recommendation, particularly with the additional expense coming at a difficult time of year.

We value your feedback and will certainly take your comments on board when communicating recommendations to customers in the future. Our priority is always to ensure customers understand what has been identified with their system and the reasons behind any recommendations, while ensuring they remain completely free to decide how and when they wish to proceed.

Thank you again for your honest feedback and for recognising the professionalism of our installation teams.

Think green partners lied to my mother by trying to sell a service agreement at an extortionate cost

Think green partners went round to my mother's house and tried to use scare tactics to get her to pay £2,000 for a 5 year service plan by stating that the manufacturer of the inverter had gone out of business. They haven't. Luckily my mother got me to talk directly with the salesman who tried to explain what they did such as servicing the cables, switches, inverter and cleaning the panel. I'm an Engineer and know exactly what they'll do.....nothing. They are scammers and shouldn't be allowed to trade. The salesman got quite shirty with me when I told him exactly who I thought they were 'rip off merchants'.
